Neda Boutique

I knew exactly what I wanted, and the saleswoman who helped me was knowledgable, clear and speedy in helping me get what I needed. I didn’t have time to peruse much of their inventory — partly because I was on a deadline for a wedding happening that weekend — but it seemed like they had a nice selection. I hope to go back again and have a bit more time to browse.

I’ve never bought anything here that hasn’t received a minimum of 10 compliments, each and every time it is worn, often once a week in season over the course of many years. Believe me, this is not a testament to my own fashion sense — it is to the credit of the owner and sales staff who go far above and beyond to find clothes that fit and flatter. Even when you doubt them, they are right. I’ve bought many things here that I would never have looked at, much less tried on, without their guidance. Get to know them, and it’s like the Olive Garden of boutiques: You’re family. (There are no breadsticks, but sometimes there is champagne.) I’ve bought event clothes, work clothes, giving-​a-​speech clothes, dancing-​on-​a-​bar clothes — they have it all here, and the pricetags (of which there are quite a variety, seriously) make sense when you see how much wear you’ll get out of what you buy. The cost-​per-​wear of most of my Neda buys is negligible within a month or two of purchase. There is nowhere I’d rather buy a dress in this city. Thanks for helping me look my best, Neda.

Love this store! Especially for dresses and cool locally designed T-​shirts. Great items, different designers that I don’t see everywhere else. I always find something special and unique there. The staff is very friendly and helpful. It’s places like this that make this neighborhood (Cobble Hill) so special.

After living in the neighborhood for 10 years and walking past this store every day for years, I finally decided to go in for the first time. I love their window displays and I needed a dress asap so it was an obvious choice. I wish I’d read the Unilocal reviews first because they are pretty spot on. I even thought maybe my reaction was just me. Thanks, Unilocalers for making me not feel crazy!
The dresses are mostly in the $ 200-​$ 400 range, many of which seem overpriced. The saleswoman – who I also surmised was the owner – followed me around and pulled a ton of dresses for me to try on. She had me in dresses I told her I disliked, and I found myself feeling like a hater because I was arguing with her over all the foofy numbers she had me prancing around in. When I told her I didn’t like how tight a dress was, she tried to sell me on Spanx and a belt. Thanks?
I’m in my thirties and I know what I like and what looks good on me, but I felt as though I was prom-​dress shopping with a pushy parent (who clearly let price dictate her taste). I did eventually buy a dress that I found on the sale rack so maybe I shouldn’t complain, but then again that wasn’t even a consolation for the really terrible and mildly humiliating experience. Your probably don’t want someone dragging you out of the dressing room to look in a mirror in front of customers if you look like a flouncy sausage. Definitely won’t be back.

Although the clothes are a little overpriced for the fabrics quality, I have been a random customer for years.
Some pieces are really unique. What I don’t feel comfortable with is the service. I’m the type of person who likes taking time to see and touch a dress, before even trying it, I like to imagine myself in it and I need time for that. But the saleswomen ask you several times if you need help, till you really feel uncomfortable or guilty because you couldn’t find anything you like. That’s the reason why I stopped to visit the store regularly…

Have been a customer for a number of years being a neighborhood resident. Recently bought a dress for an event, not 100% sure on fit until I could try on at home with the right undergarments and my heels. When I inquired, I was told I could do that and return no problem if not right. Not the right fit, sadly. Sadder yet is that when I went to return it just a few days later, they offered me store credit citing policy, a policy which was not fully clarified when I was told ‘no problem’ days before. Worse yet, the woman who helped me with the credit was in the store the day I bought the dress and even remembered that I was hesitant to purchase, which is why I had initially asked – I clearly wouldn’t have bought the dress otherwise. When I explained again and politely asked her to make an exception based on what I was led to believe, she refused with a very insincere apology. She clearly could have made it right, but chose not to. I proudly support small businesses in the area, but it’s regrettable when their practices work against doing right by the customer. I’ll be using my credit, or gifting it to a friend, and not returning. Very unexpected, unfortunate experience.

BUYER BEWARE! Exceptionally rude staff. Significantly overpriced merchandise. There are plenty of nice boutique shops in the area so no need to ever walk through the doors of this shop. I can’t understand why they are in business.

The IT jeans here are AMAZING! They fit great and the sales ladies are so incredibly helpful, regardless of what you look like!

I never write Unilocal reviews but I think it’s important to let people know what they’re dealing with when the face of a shop is one way and the actual customer experience is another.
So, the staff really is super nice and fun. Sometimes I would drop in just to say hi. I’ve been shopping at Neda for a couple of years now. And I spend money there — decent amounts of money. And I’ve brought friends in who also drop cash.
I bought a pair of jeans there and when I got them home I realized they smelled really, really bad. So I washed them and they still smelled. I couldn’t even keep them in my drawer because they made other clothes smell. So I washed them several more times w/​no luck. I asked if I could return the jeans (they were $ 80). The sales woman was reluctant to take them back and I said, well, just keep them then because I’m going to throw them out. She took them and said she would call me. She later called and said I was in luck because they were the same size as the owner, normally they wouldn’t take them back because they’ve been selling the same jeans for years w/​no complaints (though this seems almost impossible to me). They sent me an $ 80 return credit that was good FOR LESS THEN THIRTY DAYS. I was on vacation when the return slip came in and by the time I opened the envelope it was past due. Accompanying the return credit was a note, once again, telling me how these jeans have been sold w/​no complaints for years.
I thought about getting in touch w/​them again instead of writing this review but the whole experience left a bad taste in my mouth. Just be cool to your loyal customers, or better yet, all of your customers. I had one product that was very clearly dipped in harsh chemicals and smelled disgusting — be cool and say, that’s too bad it didn’t work out let us find you another pair or whatever. Instead I was made to feel like perhaps a bit crazy but they were doing me this huge (limited time) favor by refunding $ 80. Really bad move. I don’t feel comfortable returning there so I won’t. My fall wardrobe money will be spent at the shops on Atlantic instead.
I noticed that someone had posted that they will tell you that everything looks great on you and give you off sizes. That is true, I’ve purchased many things that I’ve not worn due to the sales women ooing and aahing. But that’s my own fault. I learned that from a few bad purchases to tune them out.
So long, Neda, it’s been real.
P. S. Pretty much the same pair of jeans at Uniqlo for $ 30. Hate to go to big business over small but that’s what happens when the customer service experience is lacking.

This is my go-​to store to get dressed for an occasion, from big work event to date night to a wedding. Or to find a hanging out around town maxi-​dress… they have a great variety of dresses. My friends that I have brought here also have loved it enough to suggest coming back here with me, even if they don’t live in the hood. A friend from LA always wants to come here with me, whenever she’s in town. Some reviewers here do not dig the staff but I like them — half the ‘finds’ I have made here were not my pick but one of theirs, just from sizing up my shape and style. So, thanks, Neda!

I LOVE shopping at Neda! They have THE BEST taste in clothing and jewelry. It’s always hard choosing what to bring home when there are so many cute cute options every time I visit (I moved away from Brooklyn a few years ago — but the store will ship anywhere). And then to top it off: Neda has LAYAWAY! What a great idea! I’ve already taken advantage of it. I don’t know of many boutique stores that offer layaway.
The care and attention I receive when I shop at Neda is incredible. There’s nothing worse than walking into a boutique and being ignored… I love the enthusiasm and knowledge the salespeople have about the clothes in the store. Without fail, they know what lines run big/​small and do an excellent job saving me time by suggesting sizes and styles that will actually fit my body. And when I ask, «if I can only get (x number of things), which ones were the best on me?» I get honest answers. Every time.
While some of the clothing prices might seem higher than other boutiques, just remember you’re paying for name designers who use high quality materials (silk, linen, etc) and construction techniques. Most full price dresses range between $ 150 – 300, but if that’s out of your budget, they have killer sales! I still wear pieces I bought from Neda 7 years ago and get compliments…

As others have noted: cute stuff, but overpriced for the quality, and the sales staff is horrible. Horrible.
I was in Neda a year ago and spent over $ 1000 on some cute dresses, but the experience was marred by a saleswoman who was determined to hover over me, telling me that everything looked great (when it clearly did not). She also kept bringing me the wrong size, and I had to keep sending it back, and she would try to ARGUE with me about what size I am. Lady… If I say I don’t think I look good in a size, why not just listen? I’ve been dressing myself for a good 30 years now.
It eventually became evident that her tactic was to try to sell off the less common sizes wherever possible. As a result, the dresses where I successfully got her to bring me the proper size are favorites and I still wear them & get tons of compliments…(like I said, they do have cute things.) But the one she talked me into just sits in my closet, $ 350 tag still on it, because I look like a ginormous freak in it. Sigh.
So, I didn’t go back for a year. Just went back recently because I was tempted by the stuff in the window. What a mistake. The same hovering, the same telling me that every single thing I tried on looked great, regardless of any actual appearance, the same **arguing** with me about sizing.
The store has high-​end prices, but in a high-​end store you would never see a salesperson like that.
As I left, I heard the same saleswoman telling a woman «See, you really are a size 2!!» about a dress that was manifestly three sizes too small for her. Her breasts had been squashed into unrecognizable shapes, the dress itself was ruched over the top of her chest because it couldn’t be pulled down properly, and straps were digging into her shoulders. But, poor woman, she looked like she believed them.
Oh, yeah… The «We prosecute shoplifters» signs in each dressing room are a truly classy touch. But it basically sums up their mentality: They think everyone’s a thief. They’re certainly out to steal your money.

Way above my budget but I always love what they display in their window. The problem is that every time I’ve gone in, I’ve been hovered over or given weird looks. Also there’s too much of a snooty vibe for me. Like another reviewer said that they felt she needed to be all made up to shop there. I really wanted to buy something there but the staff keeps bugging me way too much to even think about what I want to do. I wish they’d give me some breathing space.

I give two stars to Neda for often having great pieces of clothing in stock. The three missing stars are for the extremely overbearing sales staff. Having the mirror outside of the dressing room does not intimidate me, but someone standing right next to said mirror waiting for me every time I come out in a new garment, and giving the ridiculously hard sell on each one (how it can be dressed up or down, how flattering it is to my figure, etc.) is unnerving. It is guaranteed I will NOT buy anything if someone is right on top of me while I try on clothes. Now I know that this comes down to personal style – some people love that extra help when shopping and that is fine – but I think a sales person should be able to pick up on when a customer is not receptive to this technique. All I could think in the dressing room was «how can I get her to leave me alone without being totally rude?» I couldn’t think of anything so I just fled. Too bad, I did really like those velvet jeans.

Excellent taste and longstanding relationships with brilliant, small scale designers. My wife and I consistently find something here that looks beautiful on her. Designs are creative and just a little out of the ordinary. A real gem!

Initially, I stopped I into Neda because my wife LOVES this store. Subsequently I have gone back several times because the staff is extremely helpful. They listen to my suggestions and build upon them. They will even look up my wifes history to see what she has bought in past! This level of service is above and beyond! As man I am always confident I will walk away with the right gift. These day’s it’s hard to find this level of customer service! Kudos to Neda!

Do you need a dress? Is that a rhetorical question? Of course you need a dress. And Neda will have a dress for you, and staff that will bring you many lovely alternate dresses to try on… and will have appropriate suggestions for your figure. Gawd, they have so many dresses! And all over the map in pricing, though not much under $ 150.
I always thought the windows looked cheap, then I walked in one day out of desperation and … suprise! now I’m a regular!

I bought something here. But only because I worked through my distinct discomfort to do so. The owner (I assume it was the owner by her scent of desperation) is hawkish and pushy. You can feel the eyes on you from the time you walk in to the time you leave, and all the painful moments in between — in this dark and non distinct store.
She’s there, watching, waiting, boring holes through your skull in the outline of the word «buy» with her mind. She controls herself for long minutes at a time before commenting on a dress you’ve touched. ’”That one is so flattering.” «The bottom is so pretty.» «It’s supposed to be blousy». I could feel myself grimacing with anxiety.
In the dressing room there are 2 decorations: a sign in plain typeface set off by a gold frame. It says «we prosecute shoplifters» on wrinkled copy paper. No mincing words there. I’ve never taken a thing in my life from any store, not even as a child, but I felt guilty as hell. The other decoration is also a sign. It yells in a mixture of CAPS underlining AND exclamation points DEMANDING that YOU take off jewelry that snags BEORE TRYING on CLOTHES.
I got 20% off a belt and overpriced sweater because I agreed to give my email address. As I paid, I heard her whisper in the cashiers ear to remember to get my email address. I had already written it down — a never used yahoo address. My receipt for my (fall, not summer) item was stamped in red: «FINAL SALE».
You bet! You don’t need to tell ME twice!
I don’t know what their strategy is but it’s majorly disconcerting. Some quite pretty dresses but who knows how they look on so I can’t say any more than that. Alls I’ll say is: maybe they should lighten up a bit and leave customers to browse. A little trust could go a long way.

If you need a dress, for work, a date, a party, umm pretty much any day a dress is the easiest thing to wear, then you must head straight into Neda’s boutique. The selection of merchandise is ridiculous, she has so much to choose from, in very current styles, colors, and materials.
They offer a wide range of prices and you get what you pay for — a great dress that you will wear all season and add or take off layers for other seasons.
I cannot speak highly enough about the lovely service, sales people and collection of jewelry too. I live in Manhattan and come to Brooklyn to shop at Neda’s!

I agree with other reviewers who have issues with the salespeople. I feel like I’ve had really mixed experiences, and it definitely makes me hesitate to go in.
The clothes can be expensive, but I’ve found some cute dresses and skirts on the sales rack, and I feel like a lot of their jewelry is really reasonable – have gotten some great earrings for gifts for under $ 30 and I have a pair of gold hoops I wear all the time that I bought for $ 15.
All that said, I do occasionally spend a lot on clothes, and sometimes I just windowshop. I get that the employees might be annoyed with people constantly walking in and out without buying anything, but I think it’s building up rapport with the customer. I mean, yes, sometimes I’m just looking, but I have bought in the past and may buy in the future.
Anyway, I think they do jump to conclusions too quickly about who’ll spend what amount of money. I live down the street, I tend to spend weekends wearing leggings and t-​shirts, and I rarely wear makeup when I’m just chilling in the nabe. I’m also an editor at a magazine who does occasionally spend money, and who also occasionally writes best of neighborhood guides.
Ultimately, if you put on mascara, wear actual pants, and have a nice purse instead of a tote bag, they’ll be nice to you. And maybe this is a lesson for me: That I need to step it up, instead of essentially looking like a hobo, and I’ll be treated accordingly. But the sometimes chilly atmosphere makes me feel like I’ll be spending my money elsewhere in the future.
BUT: The one redeeming thing is the jewelry. It’s really pretty and they don’t give you any grief over gift wrapping. Plus, it’s supporting small businesses, and regardless of random employee attitudes, I still do like this place on a macro-​level.

Has Pretty Woman taught us nothing? I am not advocating, you know, prostitution as a fairy tale, but you’d think by now most retail outposts would know not to judge a book by its proverbial cover.
I’m the beauty and fashion editor of a women’s blog. I ventured into Neda with a fair amount of cash to burn on a good friend’s birthday gift. I had some reservations — I’d been in once before and had felt slightly smothered in my shopping experience and felt the curating of the store to skew a bit on the Gift For The Aunt You Don’t Really Know side. But having procrastinated, and being a fan of second chances, I returned.
I was treated like a shoplifted or a homeless person. Delighted to spot a Feral Child trunk sale and eyeing a scarf, I was selfishly distracted by a hand-​wrapped soap. I’d no sooner than picked it up than the sales associate (store owner?) was upon me, letting me know I’d put it back incorrectly. Whaaaat? Having been made to feel completely uncomfortable, I awkwardly made my way over to the item I’d come into the store for, but couldn’t shake the hawk-​like gaze of the woman who’d decided I was there to steal or make some El Cheapo 20 buck purchase.
I skulked back over to the cosmetics trying to work up the courage to just leave sans scarf and not feel I HAD to make the purchase to prove something to her. I was sniffing another yummy lotion when she returned, «Isn’t that great, and it’s only thirty dollars!» I smiled and left never to return.
I went to Shen across the street, where I’m always treated with respect, where the products are tops, and where my money is good enough even when I’m not wearing makeup.

A four star review for a store where I cannot afford to buy anything yet, I still felt the urge to review based solely on how much I loved the staff, the quality of the merchandise and the atmosphere.
I know salespeople have a sixth sense for window shoppers. For people who will look over every stitch of clothing in the store then leave empty-​handed and, sometimes, broken-​hearted. I know the three saleswomen saw this in me and while there were three other customers, I was equally cared for. I left with a pretty reusable bag and a chunk of my heart left behind. Their dresses were so lovely and the quality so perfect that even I, a thirfty (aka cheap) New Yorker, thought the $ 100+ pricetags made sense.
So, if you have the cash and need something lovely and of good quality, Neda has a lot to offer and the customer care we all yearn for. When my days of climbing the ladder are done, I will definitely be at Neda, buying everything my little heart desires.

I love this place. I wish they were in Boston. The service was awesome, everyone was super duper friendly and the stuff they sell is super cute. I loved most of it. I especially love that it was local Brooklyn artists as well. There was a truck show going on so maybe that was why everyone was a little over the top nice but who knows. I bought a pair of earrings and wanted to go back but we didn’t have time. I hope they get their online e-​commerce site up soon.
