Established in 2010.

From humble roots as Lane Banning’s private production space, Moon Lab Studios has grown into a full-​service commercial recording studio in the exciting neighborhood of Greenpoint, Brooklyn.

Business Owner

Since opening the studio in November 2010, Lane has produced and engineered over 200 projects at Moon Lab. He has worked with such artists as Antibalas, Lenny Pickett, Dave Douglas, and Dave Weckl, as well as many NYC artists, bands and session musicians.

Lane holds a degree in Music Technology from New York University and is an active member of the Audio Engineering Society. He’s also mean on the charcoal grill, but that’s for another bio.

Moon Lab Studios is the absolute best! I’ve done two recordings here so far for the new show I am working on, and I couldn’t be happier. Lane is truly a wizard at what he does: the backing tracks for our performances were perfectly balanced and so crisp, it was as if the instruments were on stage. And our demo-​soundtrack is so amazing I can’t even begin to describe it — and all thanks to Lane and Moon Lab. He really goes the extra mile to make sure that any and all needs are met in a friendly, relaxed environment. Having never entered a recording studio before, I was admittedly nervous and totally clueless as to how anything was supposed to work: and Lane masterfully guided the process quickly, efficiently, and patiently as I asked a hundred questions. Professional, friendly, relaxed yet efficient, and amazingly affordable (especially important as a young artist/​producer): you just don’t get better. I already have a few more projects to bring his way — can’t wait to get back in the studio!
Truly — if you are in need of any form of music recording and/​or mixing, there is no better than Moon Lab!

Lane (owner and chief engineer) is the best of the best when it comes to recording, hands down. I first met him when he was hired to record accompaniment tracks for a show I was playing. I generally get nervous in the studio, knowing that every wrong note is time and money lost, but Lane creates an atmosphere that is relaxed, fun, creative, and with supreme expertise. The finished product, and the time it took him to complete it all, was remarkable. I’ve already got two more jobs I’m sending his way because better doesn’t exist. (And he’s affordable, too!)

I recorded some drums, guitar, and percussion a few months ago at Moon Lab Studios and can’t wait to go back! I had a fantastic experience. Lane is incredibly smart, helpful, easy going and his studio is full of great equipment and instruments. What a wonderful place for creativity and collaboration! I went to the studio over the weekend to record a song with a friend. He is coming out with a new album soon, he goes by the name of Universe. His music is amazing.
Lane is such a great person, very sweet, very helpful, and really knows his work. The sound quality in his studio is amazing. I really felt comfortable coming into the studio. I would definitely recommend this place to others, and will definitely be back in the future.

I’ve been recording/​mooching off Lane’s hospitality for a good while now, working with him as a musician, engineer, producer, and a friend. Lane puts great care into making sure Moon Lab is equipped with only the highest quality gear, enough to suit the aspiring pop-​star to a gear head trying to geek out over preamps. Most importantly, Lane has the musical ear and the tech know-​how to really sit down with you and understand your vision, making him a very easy person to work with, and making Moon Lab a very productive place to work.
