MilkMade Tasting Room

I know it’s freezing outside, but I’m still down to grab a cone from MilkMade. Why? It’s d-​e-​l-​i-​c-​i-​o-​u-​s. Flavors are reminiscent of childhood, with an adult twist (like fingerling PBJ or scotch vanilla).
Having a hard time deciding? Introducing the best idea: the ice cream flight. Try as many flavors as possible! Yum!

small shop. great flavors. (this review is for their halloween flavors). we tried three of their halloween special flavors and the one that stood out was the candy corn! if you’re around the area, give this place a try. they also have an ice cream delivery service!

It’s never too cold for ice cream! Yes, the space is very small and there is only one bench inside and one outside. But the ice cream is pretty good! When I went, they had their halloween special flavors. I tried the candy corn flavor and was very surprised that I actually enjoyed it (Who actually likes candy corn?). I got two scoops — 1 scoop candy corn and 1 scoop snickerdoodle in a red velvet cone. The cone is extra. I didn’t really feel like the cone tasted like red velvet but it added a nice crunch.

The ice cream wasn’t so bad, but I found two paper residues inside my ice cream. They were both the size of a thumb. I hope this was a isolated incident.

A tiny store with only one bench inside and 3 outside benches as seating. Don’t expect to meet friends and hang out here.
The salted caramel was overly sweet to me. And the dark and stormy’s candoed ginger pieces were overpowering. Not the most balanced ice cream.
The staff was nice though.

My heart breaks when I have to choose between flavors, and I wanted to try everything! Ice cream flights? Genius! The mini cones were presented to us in a cute wooden stand with small metal spoons (yay, environmentally friendly & cute utensils). I got to try 5 of the 7 flavors they offered that day
RVC: Moist red velvet cake chunks in a cheesecake ice cream base — a winner!
Dark & Stormy — I only tasted the ginger, no rum here! I prefer the ginger flavor at Van Leeuwen’s, but still yummy.
Guava — This would have been better as a sorbet, I just didn’t like the guava flavor mixed with cream.
PB & Huckleberry Jam — The peanut butter ice cream base was chalky and gritty and the jam couldn’t save it.
Chocolate & ?? — This was not memorable, I don’t remember the name of the flavor!
There is a bit of inconsistency in flavors and textures between flavors, and while I did enjoy 2 flavors, I really didn’t care for the other 3!

Great ice cream! This place has unique flavors that are constantly changing with the seasons and weeks. You can try all the flavors if you want before you order your flavor. My husband and I both settled on chocolate cake with chocolate fudge and walnuts. The ice cream was great! Rich and lovely! I got the RVC cone and my husband got the cinnamon spice cone. We both agreed the RVC was the better choice with the ice cream. The people working in the store were helpful and friendly and store itself is bright and wonderful. Love this place!

Was in the area eating brunch and decided to pop in and try some new ice cream!
The staff member was super helpful and let me try out tons of flavors. I ended up getting a scoop of the RVC (two mini scoops in a cone) in a red velvet cone (from the Konery!). However, after half of it, I was already tired of it. The other flavors weren’t very memorable (besides basil! That packed a punch, but I’m not a huge fan of basil-​based ice cream.) I saw that other reviewers compared it to Morgenstern’s, but I absolutely don’t believe so.

Venue — Small hole-​in-​the wall with limited, small bench seating outside.
Flavors — Unique flavors such as dark & stormy and rootbeer float.
Cones — The cones also come in a variety of flavors such as chocolate and red velvet.
Overall: good ice cream but for a quick stop.

Honestly, my favorite part of my MilkMade experience was the cone. The cone was different (from The Konery). Don’t get me wrong, the ice cream was unique as well. I had the rum flavored ice cream which wasn’t overpoweringly sweet. It was not spectacular enough for me to be satisfied for paying so much for ice cream. My sister had the peach and vanilla flavor and she loved the peach, but not so much for the vanilla. I love the exterior of the Tasting Room, with it’s bubblegum pink door border.

Amazing selection of tasty ice creams including peach cobbler and a basil ice cream! They also stock the nice cones that I had at Ice&Vice. Friendly staff that will allow you to sample before you buy. The shop is quite small, with limited seating outside, but if the weather is nice that isn’t a problem!
I would definitely return, just for the cobbler ice cream, but it is in a bit of a random location, so you might want to team it up with another activity!

Having seen this years back
(the creator in the video was so much friendlier than the brusque staffer on my visit) then being offended by their subscription prices, finally tried the product at their B&M that replaced Hay Rosie. Mostly excellent product with prices to match, but they need a different tasting flight vessel. PS check Michael’s earlier tip for more details.

Jo treated me to a scoop of RVC in a Birthday Kone… happy dance. Creamy goodness, with bits of red velvet cake throughout. Sucks that ice cream is the only thing my 2 year old would not share with anyone, can’t even get a nice photo. Ha ha.
The place is very small, but I had the pleasure to see where all the ice cream magic happens through their window. The girls behind the counter were lovely, gave us a bunch of taste tests (I think Addy may have tried them all). Love the cute magnets on the door, every one represented a flavor they’ve created, cool.
We both missed out on the YEE earlier this month, and since it has been in our bookmarks. Finally had the chance, luckily we found a spot across the street right when we arrived.

The old Hay Rosie space birthed Milkmade the formerly subscription only ice-​cream fabulous fare. The name Milkmade is so spot on as this is milky, creamy ice-​crem.
Rotating Flavors can be tasted & enjoyed inside and out. S’mores is spectacular, Chocolate With Chinese spices was exotic. Red velvet tasted like cherry cheesecake-​yum

Another amazing entry into the overcrowded scene of incredible ice cream options in NYC lately, MilkMade has immediately become one of my top choices.
Accurately described as a «Tasting Room» rather than an actual shop, the tiny spot with no seats nor actual place to eat really (especially when the lines start to form) is very reminiscent of the dearly departed Hay Rosie that occupied the space before them.
The only consolation for the fact that Hay Rosie is gone is that MilkMade is quite similar, which is a very good thing.
Both shops are run by a woman that knows how to make insanely good ice cream. Both shops have really inventive flavors and specials all the time that just make you want to keep returning over and over to try the exciting new stuff. Both shops use the excellent special cones from The Konery, including the great Birthday Cake and Chocolate Hazelnut cones. Both shops have tasting flights, but nobody does a cooler one than MilkMade: you get 5 flavors served in mini cones, all designed to match specifically to the ice cream flavors. The only downside is that you can’t get it to eat if you are on the go, as they serve it to you in an elaborate wooden display that you probably shouldn’t walk off with.
The tasting flight is a good way to go on your first visit because there are so many flavors to choose from, making it too hard to commit to just 2 or 3 in a cone or cup. I was fortunate enough to try their popular Open Sesame, which is the best version of black sesame I’ve ever had, and is unfortunately no longer available. The Fingerlakes PB&J is also incredible, as is the RVC (Red Velvet Cake) and pretty much every other flavor I’ve tried so far (just about all of them).
The one complaint I have here, which I also have at some of my other favorite spots too, is that they need to work on their scooping game for cones. Both times I’ve had some sad looking cones with some messy scoops, and I can’t help but be reminded on first glance and wish for the perfect scoops you get at places like Davey’s and Morgenstern’s. It’s a minor problem though, since you quickly forget after tasting how good it is.
I sure hope MilkMade lasts longer than just one season (Hay Rosie was only there for a few months before they moved on). They definitely have stuff good enough to compete with the best places in NYC, and I would totally come in the winter for more of their excellent flavors.

As if I needed another ice screen shop to add to my addiction! But I welcome this delicious MilkMade Tasting Room to my mix of usuals.
With help of the beautiful weather this past weekend, I visited twice for my summer daily servings of ice cream. Flavors are fresh and creamy, and shockingly true to the description. Innovative yet natural and classic at the same time. I love too the incestuous sourcing from so much of local New York.
The selection of flavors include Fingerlakes PBnJ, Blueberry, Black Sesame, Chinatown Chocolate and more. And there’s a variety of cone flavors too, which taste light and homemade, adding to the ice cream but not overpowering. I’m overall just so impressed with MilkMade!
The shop is small (itty bitty), but with just enough visitors cycling in and out that it’s comfortable, and I stand outside devouring my ice cream. I cannot wait to come back!

I never thought I would ever say this, but I’m lucky I’m lactose-​intolerant. If I weren’t, I would eat up all the ice cream at MilkMade and someone would have to roll me home in a wheelbarrow!
The shop is small so don’t expect to eat there, but come on, you are eating ice cream! Who says you can’t walk and eat, chomp, munch, lick, gulp. whatever your mode of ingestion is!

To wrap, the flavors are unique and made for milk-​lovers. If you are in the area, I highly recommend you check it out.

My best friend invited me to a Unilocal event here and it was AMAZING. The neighborhood and shop is so quaint. The Milkmade shop really pops with it’s white and pink accents on Sackket street.
The ice cream flavors I tried that evening were open sesame seed (I have never heard of a flavor like this before coming to this shop) and RVC (red velvet cheesecake). There is no ice cream flavor that will top the open sesame seed in my eyes, it has stolen my heart!!! It was creamy and full of caramel, I couldn’t get enough of it. The RVC flavor felt like I was taking a huge bite of cheesecake, was delicious. Truly quality ice cream! While I was at the counter getting my ice cream, I noticed that they had very flavorful cones available. The one that caught my eye was the toasted cocunut, can’t wait to try that the next time around.
At the event, they paired each of the ice cream flavors with a beer. I really thought this concept was so unique, truly out of the box thinking when it comes to the flavors, beers, and environment.
I come from Long Island and I will 100% be back to Brooklyn just for this ice cream. I HIGHLY recommend you come to this quaint ice cream shoppe, you will not be dissapointed with this sweet treat.

At long last! I’ve been a avid fan of MilkMade since I joined the membership (the founder started the company as a unique, locally sourced, ice cream of the month delivery service — check that story out on their site!) back in 2012. Three years later, I’m excited to see a scoop shop open up and get my ‘scream all month long (those pints go pretty quickly after delivery night rolls around).
Her classics, like Red Velvet Cake and Chinatown Chocolate (a 5 Chinese spice blend take on good ol’ chocolate) — with Konery cones to pair! — alongside her monthly concoctions on rotation — for example, May’s «Open Sesame» (black sesame ice cream swirled with toasted sesame caramel) — are served up in shop. And for a better idea of how crafty they get, my past favorites have included «Marizpan Pig» (marzipan ice cream with chocolate truffle) and «Brie Mine» (brie ice cream with a cabernet caramel swirl).
I stopped in for their Fingerlakes PbnJ on a birthday cake cone, because it’s what the 8 year old in me was craving that day. Of course, the quality and flavor of MilkMade never misses a beat. It’s a company that cares about perfecting the craft as much as they do experimenting with it. I’m thrilled to have a spot I can venture to for my MilkMade fix on a more regular basis. Keep the scoops coming!
