Man With A Van

Wish I could give them 10 stars! I dealt with Man with a Van solely through email on behalf of my daughter who was in the middle of crisis mode at work. From the initial inquiry regarding cost and availability, to the final email (initiated by MWaV) with a receipt for cash payment, responses were timely and clear. The day of the move, they arrived well within the 2 hour time frame and called my daughter to let her know they were on their way a half hour before arriving. The actual move could not have gone smoother with the movers getting a queen bed and box spring, large dresser, 20 plus boxes and other miscellaneous items down 4 flights of narrow stairs. They took bed frame apart and put it back together in new apartment. Two and a half hours total including travel from West Village to Murray Hill in heavy traffic. As my daughter texted me, «Thank God for these movers!»

I hired Man with a Van for my last-​minute move. The moving crew was super nice, very efficient, and made the whole experience really easy. But what happened after is probably why I would recommend them ABOVE any other moving company. Basically, the legs to my bed got misplaced and if you know anything about IKEA beds… well, to replace the legs you have to buy a whole new bed. They went the «we’ll make it right» route and offered to pay for an equivalent replacement bed frame off craigslist and to deliver it all free of charge. I ended up finding the legs in the bedroom side table drawer (where I didn’t look because I didn’t set up my bedroom because of the legs. anyway…that’s a different issue), and so we didn’t end up having to do anything extra, but through the whole process they were SO kind and professional and just wanted to make my life easier and compensate me for the inconvenience. I really appreciated them treating me like a human who had to move her stuff rather than just another customer. I would definitely use them again.

not sure starts are needed here, becase they seem like they provide good service BUT gouging rates near the end of the month sucks-​maybe everyone does it (not sure) but i find that unbelievably unethical. how about honoring your posted rates and not trying to hustle every dime out of people. its the end of the month, you’re booked any way, why only cater to the rich and/​or desperate? bummer… only rich people vans were available when i called, sigh

Paul’ team is seriously the best. Used them to move last summer and plan to use them again next month. Incredibly punctual and professional. They moved quickly and I ended up paying less than what I had expected despite a move across the city. Also, those plastic bins are a godsend — The company drop them off and picks them up at times of my choosing which made the move very convenient.

I am not a Unilocaler but Jay and his co-​worker were simply the best movers and genuine workers I have met in quite some time. Booked Tuesday for a Saturday move, they came on time, worked quickly although billed by the hour and finished the move with speed and no damage despite a 4-​story walk up. Friendly and personable, they explained the billing and I recommend them 100%. You will only be sorry if you don’t use them.

Man With A Van actually makes you look forward to moving in New York. I needed a heavy dresser moved from a VERY persnickety co-​op building. Booked the day before the move, and I received my quote and insurance paperwork in a few short hours. Raul and Leonel arrived with the van EARLY and completed the job in exactly one hour. They were professional, quick, and made for great conversation. No hidden fees; HIGHLY recommend.

Book these guys for your next move! Were early (!), fast, efficient and super nice. Move went without a hitch.

Guys arrived 2 hours late, took a long time. To beat it all, I had my BOSE bluetooth headset disappear. It was there before the movers came and wasn’t there after.
On complaining the owner denied this was possible.

This was everything I wanted for an NYC move! I am a graduate student not from the area and was DREADING moving in NYC. To top it all off, there was heavy rain on the day of my move. Man With A Van was the best moving service I have ever used. All my furniture and my roommate’s furniture and suitcases were moved in ONE TRIP and the movers sent were cordial, upbeat, and so cognizant of our time!
I have and will continue to recommend this service to everyone I know in the NYC area!

I used these guys to move a large flat screen TV and portable fireplace/​TV stand. The guys were right on-​time, friendly, and finished the job in an hour. They were careful and things were handled well. They even offered for me to ride with them in the van, so I didn’t have to worry about riding the subway or paying for a cab. I would definitely use them in the future, and highly recommend them.

Do yourself a favor and read the other 1-​star reviews of this company. They have similar experiences to mine.
I moved a bed and some smaller items from Prospect Heights to the UES yesterday. The customer service was helpful scheduling the move, and the movers arrived right on time. However, the movers were horrified to discover that I had a cat who was also moving with me. They made ME carry a massive and very heavy suitcase down from my 3^rd floor apartment and up to my new 4^th floor one because there was some fur on it. I’m lucky I was strong enough to handle it. And they did let me ride in the van with them, which was nice, but they made me put the cat in the back with the furniture… Cats can’t be all that uncommon, can they? It just struck me as odd.
Update ⁴⁄₆: I received an email from one customer service rep (Jess) apologizing, but saying that they usually know when animals are involved. When I replied thanking her for her message but suggesting the pets be a part of the move quote process so that no one is surprised, another person, Paul, APPARENTLY THE OWNER, replied saying that «almost everyone says when they have a pet and asks if it’s ok.»
Excuse me. I didn’t realize this was my fault.
In conclusion, the movers themselves were put in a precarious position. But you should not be arguing with customers via email over a transaction that was all said and done. I didn’t ask for any money back; why am I being harassed?
Update, again ⁴⁄₆: Paul has responded to me claiming that I am the first person in 13 years who failed to mention that I have a cat. That can not possibly be true. Further, why does an owner feel the need to argue with me over something I am not asking money back for? I’m seriously uncomfortable with his responses and will be contacting the BBB.
Update, AGAIN ⁴⁄₆: Paul has responded to my notice of contacting the BBB with another argument.
Updated to add the full email exchange. Also, who are they to dictate what makes me feel threatened? Now I really will be contacting the BBB, and if they contact me again, I’ll be contacting the police.

Simply, I think it should be a standard part of the move-​quote process so that nobody is surprised. I wouldn’t have thought to list my 8lb cat that only I would carry as inventory.

Man With a Van was fantastic to work with! As someone who collected enough things after 4 years — 12 boxes, a bed, 4 pieces of fragile/​delicate furniture — they were super efficient. The whole process took 2.5 hours from one apartment to the other (AMAZING for New York!) and cost me under $ 350 — something you cannot beat in this city. They were on time, didn’t have me worry about parking, lifting, taking apart things… it was great. I appreciated that I could just move with ease and not have to worry if my stuff was going to be damaged/​lost/​broken in transit — they were all super careful with my things, which I appreciated. Also — they don’t have weird hidden fees, a huge plus in this city where moving companies try to scam you on this. Flat fee, flat rate, excellent service. I would definitely (and already am) be using them again!

Just finished a move with these guys from Central NJ to Manhattan, about 35 miles. Very happy with the experience.
I got a quote from some underground non-​professional movers priced at $ 400. The highest quote I got from the name-​brand movers was $ 700. These guys wound up in the middle, about $ 550. (I also tipped them a bit more.) So definitely a fair price.
No fuss, straightforward and quick. My two crewmen were Angel and Jay. Highly recommended.

Very good, solid, trustworthy company. Use them. I needed help getting all my furniture and boxes that had been stored in one of those pods into my new place. Checked out Man with a Van as well as some other companies on Unilocal.Man with a Van got right back to me with in the hour when I reached out. They were clear, friendly and offered the most reasonable rate. I scheduled them for Sunday ¹⁄₃₁ and the day prior, the pod company called me to cancel my delivery saying that their fork lift was broken. I stressed out and called Man With a Van to let them know and they were super chill about it. I re-​scheduled for Wednesday ²⁄₃ and guess what? Pod company (see my review on them separately) cancelled again! More fork lift problems. Spoke to Jessica, she was so laid back and friendly about it. She was basically like «Listen, it happens, we’re here, hit us back when you’re ready. No worries.» I felt so grateful to them (and wanted to kick the pod company’s butts).
Finally, it’s re-​scheduled, now for a third time on Thursday ²⁄₄. The pod company promises me that it will be delivered in a 1 hour window. I have the movers from Man With a Van arrive during that time. They are fifteen minutes early and I tell them, «hey, feel free to grab some food for a bit, the pod company hasn’t shown up yet.» So they go get a snack down the street and I call the pod company. Guess what? They are running late. Of course. So the poor movers, whose names are Alex and David, by the way, walk through everything with me in the meantime. When the pod company finally shows up 45 minutes late (and 1 hour 45 minutes after the beginning of the delivery window), Alex and David get to work. My only concern was that there was a lot of stuff in the truck and the unloading went a little slow at first. They worked hard, believe me, but I was a tiny bit worried about how long it was going to go and if they were going to be able to get everything in the apartment okay. I have some challenging stuff — a long couch, a heavy and tall wardrobe, and a ton of boxes, among other pieces. I could tell they were struggling a little bit to manage some of these complex pieces and needed it to go faster. So I called Jessica to discuss concern, like always, she answered the phone immediately and heard everything I said. She offered to send another guy out right away to jump in and help. So a half hour later Dwayne shows up and this man was just what was needed. He lit a fire under everyone’s butt, including mine and things flew from there. At the end of the day, Alex, David and Dwayne hustled hard and took a stressful situation and got it done well and made it better. I felt really good at the end about them and most of my move history has been really sucky — not these guys. What’s great about this company is that when I felt a little bit nervous about how it was heading, as soon as I voiced it THEY FIXED IT. That is a rare quality most companies can’t and don’t provide anymore. They are solution focused, more than fair and treat customers really well.
And as if that wasn’t enough, they only charged me for two hours (when it really had been closer to three) and didn’t charge me for Dwayne helping that last half hour — they so could have and they didn’t. I tipped each guy and thanked them — I hope Alex and David aren’t upset with me for calling and asking for extra help, because I really did like them and appreciate them — I think they might be in their best zone with a captain like Dwayne, but none the less, I really liked Alex and David. They were early, super professional and had great attitudes, and made me feel comfortable. Once Dwayne got there, the three of them were beasts that busted it out hard. Moves are stressful and there’s never a perfect move in or move out. These guys took a very rough situation and made it much better. Thanks everyone.

These guys are great! Moved from Park Slope to East Village this weekend and they were dealing with an apartment and a storage unit to a 6^th floor walkup. They never slowed down once and were extremely careful with my stuff!

Best bang for your buck, and they do not skimp! They are reasonably priced, ALWAYS on time or earlier, move fast without prodding and the man in charge of the day ALWAYS knows his stuff.
I used then for 4 apartment moves and 1 NY office move from the Chrysler bldg to another on 42^nd street for under $ 400, if that. Tip the guys and request them again and you will not be sorry.

Called a few places for a quote, but these guys were the most straightforward and realistic. Not only did they factored in time for the move, they also took into account the best time of day to avoid traffic. I actually called twice after calling around, and I spoke to Paul who gave me a consistent quote from the first time I contacted them.
I needed a COI, and they were helpful and gave me an option either a free or paid option (points for giving me both options as when a friend of mine used another service, they didn’t give her that option and just charged her extra!). The process was simple and painless.
When it came to the move date, they contacted me the day before to check. The day of the move, the movers called when they were 30 mins away which I really appreciated.
The move couldn’t be less painless! I lived on a 5^th floor walk up. Our movers Kellen and Jay came prepared with a «move strategy» from the street parking to how they were going to move my stuff down the stairs. Kellen and Jay were awesome guys. They had a great positive attitude and were super fast and efficient. They made sure to pack all of the fragile items in blankets and tape and were very careful with all of my items.
I was pleased to see that the entire move only too 2 hours! I can’t thank them enough. They were even so nice on the drive over to my new apartment, giving me tips on my new neighborhood and just making what could have been the start to a very stressful day feel comfortable. If you have the opportunity, make sure to get KELLEN and JAY! They truly are THE BEST!!!

Bar none, this is the best company to hire for small moves in NYC! We moved from a 420-​sq foot 1-​bedroom to our new place, all within the Upper West Side. We had the unfortunate luck of picking the day the pope came into town for our move. Nevertheless, the movers came with just a slight delay (not their fault given how CRAZY the traffic was!!!) and went to work. They brought a sizeable truck rather than a van given that we had more items. Pricing was extremely fair and they also processed the insurance paperwork for my new building within days.
They quickly and efficiently moved all of our stuff down the 3 flights of stairs and into the new place in under 3 hours. They were SO so so so nice and nothing broke, everything was in order. In addition, major props to the person coordinating over email. I reserved 2 moving dates, canceled both, booked a new moving date, and then had to cancel and reschedule again, due to the crazy closing process, and Jess was SO patient with me throughout. I cannot recommend these guys enough!!!
