We specialize in studio and 1 bedroom moves and deliveries in New York City. Our punctual service and clear communication will ease the stress of your relocation. Time is money and we work fast to save you both. With years of experience under our belts we’re comfortable moving anything from armoires to fine art. One-​bedroom apartments done in one trip. Last minute requests are welcome.

Our 15 passenger vans are the perfect size for NYC apt moves. Big Blue and Boxy Brown are large enough to take everything in one trip, yet small enough to find parking easily.

History

Established in 2009.

Colin and Charlie established LightningVan in 2009. Seeing the pitfalls of other moving companies they dedicated themselves to providing honest, polite and fairly priced service with clear communication. LightningVan has since doubled in size and runs two vans each with their own two man crew.

Colin is a graduate of Boston University and owner of both LightningVan and Pine Box Rock Shop, a vegan craft beer bar/​live music venue in Williamsburg. When he’s not moving he enjoys working out, making music and going on hikes with his wife and bulldog.

Colin and another mover helped me move in less than two hours. They handled everything carefully and quickly, and knew what thy were doing when it came to packing etc. They were also super nice. Colin even put my bed together for me, and would have taken it apart at the beginning if I hadn’t already. They made a generally anxious day/​process amazingly easy and pleasant. The price came to a little under 300 for two movers moving a bed, dresser, and 13 or so boxes in the busiest moving day of the month. Seemed like a fair deal for the great service they offer.

I don’t normally write reviews but these guys deserve one. My first move was great. They were very communicative and detailed orientated so there were no surprises. They were on time and the move was swift. I had a few pieces of furniture that needed to be removed and delivered to different locations so I hired them again on 2 seperate occasions. Colin, Nick, and Jesse are all so great. You’ll be a fool for not hiring these guys.

Highly recommend. The piece they delivered needed to be taken apart to fit it in our apartment and they quickly took it apart and reassembled it. Nice and reliable. Colin was excellent.

I’ve never written one of these before, but I feel the need to. I heard great reviews from friends who have used Lightning Van and saw the reviews on here which were all great. I’m so disappointed to have to write this.
I filled out their form and was confirmed for the Sunday after Thanksgiving. Soon after I received an email asking if I could possibly move the Saturday after Thanksgiving, a day before.
I let them know I was not able to move Saturday, and was greeted with an email in my inbox saying that they actually couldn’t move me Saturday OR Sunday, even after I got the confirmation!
Turns out the van nor the movers were in town until Monday, but they didn’t bother to check until after they confirmed me.
Then they asked if I could move Monday instead. I waited to respond until I knew I could get off of work (I could, and DID take the Monday off of work), and then I was informed that the only time they could move me was at 6pm on Monday night, leaving me all day to sit at home not doing anything.
This all could’ve been avoided if they had checked each others’ schedules before confirming me. Now I’m scrambling to find a moving company as I’m heading home for Thanksgiving.

These guys are the best. It was a tough move, elevator issues on both ends and some complicated furniture to take apart and reassemble. They were chill, and worked like crazy. Great attitude, and a work ethic beyond reproach.

Colin successfully moved all of my belongings into his van quickly and efficiently (alone!), and then drove me to NJ in the van. The price was extremely reasonable, and I will definitely use him for my next move; I would certainly recommend him to my friends as well!

Colin helped me move AND assemble furniture (overtime for the same rate as the move) yesterday… From 4pm-​midnight. Yeah. It was a TON of work (IKEA convertible bed with a billion slats and bolts: enough said) and he did it all cheerfully and professionally. The rate was more than reasonable as well.
Hire them! They will make your move SO much easier.

Lightning Van was the best moving service I have used in all my years and various moves here in NYC :) They were SUPER quick (they literally had all of my things packed up in the truck, delivered and brought in in under 2 hours– including putting my bed together) which is UNHEARD of! The guys were beyond professional and were a pleasure to work with! When it comes to moving, Lightning Van is the best! Be sure to reach out early before they fill up! Their prices are great, the service is excellent and they manage to take the stress out of moving!!! They are truly rockstars!!! :D

My wife and I are so happy we went with this company. The movers were really nice and worked REALLY hard. In fact, they got stuck along with all my boxes in our elevator. For an hour! Afterwards they didn’t skip a beat and got right to work. They made my move seamless, and I HIGHLY recommend them! So thankful we chose them.

This review is bit overdue, but I figured it’s better late than never: these guys helped me move last summer and were professional, speedy and careful throughout.
I had my stuff packed up and ready to go by the time they showed up, and they got everything in the van and to my new places in no time flat. There was some miscommunication as to how many flights of stairs they had to cover, but we worked it out and the guys finished up a bit faster than they had originally said (never a problem at all); all told it was about 2 ½ hours from the time they showed up to the time all my boxes were in my new place. Nothing broken, nothing lost. No problems at all. Awesome guys, too!
I would recommend the Lighting Van to anyone moving within NYC (if they moved in other places I’d recommend them for that, too, but I think they only do moves in the 5 boroughs). Their van is probably best suited for small apartments or single room moves, but I’m sure they could work things out for larger places, too.
The Lighting Van’s prices were the cheapest I was quoted, and everything went off without a hitch. Couldn’t have asked for more in movers!

These guys rule. It was my first time using a moving service and it was fantastic. They are super chill, personable, and really knowledgable. They were a little late to my scheduled appointment but were totally professional and apologetic about it. By the way they acted, I’m certain it doesn’t happen very often.
They were quick (about 2.5 hours) for a down sized apartment .

Quote/​Customer Service Review:
I just got off the phone with a rep from their moving service. To move 1 small bedroom (not an apartment but just 1 bedroom) they quoted me $ 437. $ 437! That was double what MoveMaster quoted me. That estimate doesn’t even make sense compared to their $ 80 an hour for two men and a van.
No biggie, I’ll just go with someone else.
But what really got me was after respectfully declining service and thanking them for taking the time to call me. The rep proceeded to ask me if I’m using a licensed and professional service. Yes. The rep then told me to double check with them because «little jobs like mine get pushed aside».
Gee thanks. Because it’s not like moving is stressful at all.

These guys by far exceeded my expectation for movers– and for the price? You really CAN’T ask for better. Seriously.
The arrived promptly (earlier than planned which was even better), called ahead a few hours before arrival to notify when they were able to arrive, arrived on-​time and got straight to work. They were able to do everything we had in one trip, which was AWESOME!
They really took care of my belongings like it was their’s, I was beyond impressed. Not only did the disassemble and assemble my bed upon arrival, they have gave tips on where to position my furniture to maximize my apartment space. They’re awesome! I couldn’t have asked for a better moving experience.

These guys are simply pros. Super quick and hard working, they’ll move your shit from point a to point b faster than you can say quinoa.
They don’t have moving insurance though so if your building requires it you should be aware. Otherwise these guys are friendly and fast and charge very reasonably at $ 80 an hour for a two man team, before tip.
