I’m a middle-​aged man and I’ve lived in Brooklyn for 15 years. I’m very pleased with the service that LaMatto has just provided to me as a landlord. I’d also recommend LaMatto to renters (I was one until three years ago.)
I needed to find tenants for the ground floor apartment in my house. Annette and Jennifer at LaMatto were efficient, smart and humanistic (best word I can think of). They said their aim was to find tenants that would be happy in the apartment, and I’m quite sure they were genuine about that. They know Brooklyn very well because they grew up here, and they’ve been realtors for some while.

Strapped for cash and ready to rent out my luxury condo, I decided to find a cool, small business group that could rent out my property super quick so that I could move into a more affordable place. I heard of other agencies, but the appeal of small business mom& pop shops convinced me to pursue LaMatto. Plus the reviews were great!
I was so wrong.
After I gave her all the photos I took (after cleaning up), all the info she needed, I left happily but the nightmare began quickly. After a couple of weeks, I hadnt heard from Annette and asked if I had any bites. I was told it was a slow season (it was about mid summer so I figured I got in the game too late).
A couple weeks later, I would email again and learn that luxury condo rental inventory was too high so it was difficult. I asked if I should lower the price some (it was already underpriced). No answer.
Yet a week later, my mother tells me that she is not seeing any advertisements for my property online. I do a search and I cant find it anywhere. I asked Annette about it and she told me «all her listings are placed appropriately.» I asked her if by that, she meant mine specifically and asked that she link me these listings. I never got them.
At around this time, I pursued another company Corcoran who told me that my rental was underpriced. After working with Annette to guarantee that the listing commission would go to my new agent and not her, she informed me that our contract was now expired and I could pursue the other agent. I am thankful for that, but not that much… I was already strapped for cash and my savings dwindled terribly.
My new corcorcan agent found a great tenant within 1 week at a higher price!
I am glad that LaMatto got great reviews from others, but I cannot be one of them. Communication was so terrible and I felt like the blanket was being pulled over my eyes. I would ask questions and not get answers. Would never recommend.

My roommate and I signed on the first apartment Annette showed us – a large 2 bedroom in a small but well managed building, very clean, with lots of light, and a fair price to boot! Every step of the process up until meeting Annette had been highly stressful. Every step after meeting Annette was done quickly, efficiently, and pleasantly.
It all started in early September when my roommate and I were working with a few brokers, looking at places on the Upper East Side, only to end up in a horribly managed building that ended up having a pest issue (a great deal is never a great deal!). My roommate and I decided to move out after 1 day and find a new place.
So I came to Unilocal and saw Annette’s profile and the glowing reviews. I emailed her immediately, she replied in a matter of a few hours saying she had one two bedroom available that she could show me (this during off season, and she had just recovered from surgery!). It was in the perfect neighborhood — East Williamsburg. My roommate and I decided we wanted it two days later. But we wanted to move in ASAP, so Annette coordinated with our landlord (who was, as luck would have it, on vacation at the time) to allow us to sign the lease immediately and move in over the weekend. She even drove to the apartment on a Sunday to give us the keys! The difference between Annette and my earlier UES broker was night and day — she was incredibly helpful and no nonsense. Everything we needed was done on time and in good condition. She was completely honest about the apartment, did not trick us in any way, and was very trustworthy.
I recommend Annette to anyone looking for an apartment in Brooklyn.

2 apartments shown, and the second was a winner! This was the easiest apartment hunt my husband and I have ever been on. No stress, no pressure, and the apartment is amazing! Annette was so helpful and knowledgable about the area. She really made us feel at ease. Plus, her little dog Z is super cute.

After a disappointing and frustrating experience with our landlord, Annette really went above and beyond to resolve the situation. She made it clear that we could have and should have come to her sooner. It’s clear she really cares about her clients and wants what’s best for everyone involved. I really appreciate having someone look out for us in a situation where we felt really powerless.

Let’s be honest — finding an apartment on Craigslist is the pits. How many times have you met up with a broker who then tells you the apartment pictured in the ad is no longer available, but they can show you something «similar» (and inevitably more expensive!!)… or arrived at the apartment to see that the posted images are cobbled together from the best views in the best units in the building?
Well, when my husband and I saw LaMatto Properties’ ad for our new Greenpoint loft apartment, we assumed it’d be more of the usual Craigslist «bait and switch» trickery — that the square footage listed had to be generously estimated, and/​or that the pictures had to be falsified in some way.
But to Annette’s credit, the loft looked *exactly* as it did in the photos, the square footage was accurate, and all amenities/​lack thereof were accurately described in the listing. What a refreshing change of pace — honesty and full disclosure!
Not only that, but Annette met us on short notice late in the evening for our initial showing, was consistently available to us by phone and email throughout the process, answered our questions in a friendly and professional manner, and negotiated on our behalf for a longer-​term lease with minimal rent increases. And when she realized an office employee had mistakenly collected a credit check fee from us, she promptly refunded it, wanting to adhere fully to the listing’s «no broker fee» promise (there was, of course, a reasonable application fee).
It was a pleasure working with an honest, neighborhood family business, and we will surely be in touch with Annette the next time we need to move — which, thanks to her, won’t be for a while!

Annette was extremely helpful. She went «the extra mile» to help us in finding a wonderful neighborhood and safe place to live. The LaMotto Properties staff and Annette were always pleasant and able to answer all of our questions about the process and how things work in NY. Being from outside the area, we needed guidance. I called Annette when we were absolutely fed up with our apartment search. We had seen so many awful apartments and dealt with so many awful brokers that we were ready to quit our search all together. Luckily, we didn’t.
After doing some research on here and reading so many glowing reviews, we figured it was worth a shot to call. I spoke with Annette and immediately my hope was restored. She told us to come in and meet with her. When we went in, she and her son Charles were extremely helpful and generous with us. They had a beautiful apartment in the area that was somewhat out of our price range, but she negotiated it down to something we were comfortable. She helped us with every step of the process, made it as simple as possible, and made sure everything we needed was taken care of.
I’ve lived in NYC for the past 7 years, have moved to 4 different apartments in that time and have NEVER had an experience like this one. If you are looking for an apartment in the North Brooklyn area, LaMatto is absolutely the person to call. I seriously would never recommend anyone else.

They found us an apartment we loved and although the landlord originally did not want a dog in the unit we wanted, Angela was able to negotiate with the landlord and get us the apartment!
Everyone at LaMatto is so friendly and always around to help — even after you’ve signed the lease and gotten the apartment. They are knowledgeable about the neighborhood and were an invaluable resource during our apartment search.

I’ve moved three times since I’ve lived in New York and I have never experienced better customer service than with LaMatto Properties. I worked with some of the other brokers in the area and they could not care less about you as a customer. I worked with Charles and Annette and could not be happier. They treat you like family and actually care about your well being. I could ALWAYS reach them when I had a question and never felt like I was being taken advantage of like you do with most other brokers. Annette is amazing. She put us in our dream apartment in an extremely well-​maintained building in exactly the area we wanted to be in, and the entire process of working with her was wonderful. We just purchased a condo in Greenpoint working with La Matto Properties. Annette was great. She went out of her way to show us quality condos in the area, even calling in favors from her friends to show us places that were off the market. She has lived in Greenpoint for her whole life and was very knowledgeable about the real estate market in the area.
Although she doesn’t typically sell condos, her real estate knowledge is broad. Since she works with rentals, house sales and condo sales, she could speak with us generally about this choice and how we could use it as a rental later in life or sell it to purchase a house. This helped us look at this purchase in relation to our life goals.
Because La Matto doesn’t have their own condo listings, there was no conflict of interest (wanting us to purchase a condo that they were selling).
Annette found the property that we ended up purchasing. Many places we looked at would compromise some of our goals but the place she found met all of them!
Annette was particularly great in negotiating the cost with the sellers. We had an absolute maximum price that we were going to walk away from the deal if the owners weren’t willing to come down to it. After a couple days of working on it, she was able to get them to come down.
After the contract was negotiated, she helped push the banks, attorneys and building management along to get us moved in as quickly as possible.

We spent over a month looking for apartments with big name brokers. Not only did these brokers charge excessive fees, but they tried to pressure us into places that were completely inappropriate and substandard. Annette from LaMatto Properties saved us. She is a true professional, and unlike the big name brokers, she treated us with respect and listened to our concerns. Needless to say, we found the perfect apartment, and Annette went out of her way to get us approved. I shudder to think where I would be living if it weren’t for Annette and the great people at LaMatto Properties. I highly recommend you skip the big names, and go straight to LaMatto.

I have been very happy with Annette Lamatto and Misha both through a sale I am going through and the rentals they have brokered for us. They are very honest and straightforward and you really feel they are there to help both parties. Having seen a lot of agencies in Brooklyn over the course of several years and how they act both towards landlords and tenants, they are among the most professional, courteous and offer the best service.

I’ve lived in New York for several years and, for a variety of reasons, have ended up moving almost every year. I have therefore encountered countless brokers, and can honestly say that these guys are the best.
I worked with Misha primarily, and found him to be helpful, friendly, and HONEST (which to me, is the most important thing). I ended up with a great apartment in a great neighborhood at a price I could afford. He even followed up with me after the move to see how everything was going with the new place, which I really appreciated.

LaMatto Properties saved us! My boyfriend and I spent a few weeks trying to find a place to live in the area using craigslist– looking for no broker’s fee apartments. Of course we didn’t find anything that was right for us, and by the time we turned to LaMatto we were afraid all the apartments for the beginning of the month were going to be taken, since it was just a week away!
Misha walked with us to several different apartments, and helped us figure out what we were really looking for. He showed us a few really great options within our price range, and was totally willing to go back with us over and over again when we were indecisive. He was also really great about us calling/​texting him last minute and asking if we could meet up and ‘look at that one apartment just one more time’! In the end they helped us find a place in a great location, near the subway, for a price that we were really excited about.
It was also really clear that they knew the neighborhood, and had been living and working here for a long time. Whenever we were in their office people from the neighborhood would just pop their heads in to say hello and have a chat.- A local perspective is definitely the way to go on finding a place to live, and they completely offered that 100%. I would definitely recommend LaMatto to anyone looking for a nice place to live in Williamsburg! 5 stars!

I swore, after the last time I moved, that I would never use a broker again; I was determined I could do it all myself, and, you know, I tried to, for a minute there… but I hadn’t factored in that it is January, and that it gets dark at like 2 PM (so by the time I get off work and get to a place to see, I can’t really see what I’m seeing), and it’s freezing (so I make excuses not to go look anyway), and no matter how much I pray for it to stop, it just keeps on SNOWING! Ugh!
Eternal pessimist that I am, though I’d heard of LaMatto from a satisfied friend (who’s now in a great new place), I went in with low expectations that anyone could help me since apparently I couldn’t help myself… but boy was I wrong. These people are the greatest! Not only did they find me an awesome spot exactly in not only the neighborhood but the exact block I wanted — it’s also a hundred bucks cheaper than I asked for, and they found it in like two days flat, without any hassle or nonsense. Wow. I mean really, WOW. Open house, this time next month? Aww yeah! And I’m inviting my realtor for sure — what a cutie. ;). Thanks, LaMatto…
