I would give 0 star if u could. The owner is a fraudulent man that disregards his contracts and overcharges for his products to rip customers off. He intentionally misguided me and wasted hours of my time and swindled me out of 100 dollars. Do not deal business with him!

Keur Djembe is amazing! My sister had been searching for a drum for her toddler son(one that he can play and grow in to) and finally found the perfect place. When we approached the store, Ibrahima, who wears many hats(owner, artist, maker, fixer, teacher), was giving a lesson to a man who had bought his own drum there. The music was beautiful! Ibrahima specifically tuned the drum my sister purchased and gave her a brief tutorial as to how to get different sounds. He also sells furniture — comfortable wooden chairs and small tables. They’re beautiful and fold up for easy transportation/storage. If you want the personal touch and excellent customer service, not to mention a beautiful, handmade product, look no further than Keur Djembe.

What a cool place. Large assortment of handmade djembe drums at reasonable prices. The owner is very friendly and offers drum lessons(got an informal one when I stopped in).

I got the djembe bug from the Congo Square Drummers at the Drummer’s Grove in Prospect Park(along the path from Parkside & Ocean Ave). I had to have a djembe. Talking to people at the Grove, and a little Web exploration led me to Keur Djembe. The artisan/owner personally makes all the drums. He travels back to Senegal periodically for goat skins and other ingredients. He spent as much time with me as I needed, helping me choose a drum, explaining how to get a variety of sounds out of it, how to adjust the tension of the string, how to moisturize the skin with shea butter, etc. You can bring your drum back to him for maintenance too. And take lessons(individual or group). Please please please DON’T buy a mass-produced inauthentic djembe from a mainstream music chain! It just won’t sound right.
