KAVE

To say Kave is hidden is extremely accurate. As I write this, I’m wondering if that quality inspired the name… yeah, I think I’m slow to make that connection.
Tucked into The Loom (sort of a shopping mall tucked into an old industrial space) where Morgan turns to Knickerbocker, the space is very large, featuring a 100% unique look and feel. The furniture looks custom and some of the chairs remind me of papasan chair sold at Pier 1 except with leather stretched over the frames (perhaps a nod to a bat’s wing?? ?). But, don’t let my description scare you. When you sit in the chairs, you don’t feel like you are being embraced by a lovesick bat longing for friendship.
I average a once-​a-​week visit and have never had a problem finding a spot and the WiFi has never given me problems (code is on the cash stand).
Kave hosts some live events that look pretty cool; Sundays there is live (tasteful) jazz music.
Pro Tip: I think you can rent the space for events.
Bonus Pro Tip: there’s a frequent customer card.

Favorite coffee shop in Bushwick. Plenty of space to work, great drinks and baked goods (+ vegan treats by sunshine !!). Cozy chill atmosphere, friendly relaxed staff. Love the giant base of earthy décor. During school id post up there all day every Saturday to do work, always welcome.

I love this hidden spot. Music is a bit specific, but bring head phones if you’re going to work and you’ll be golden.
Also try their biscuits.

The worst hot chocolate I’ve had in Brooklyn. But maybe it’s just the barista. And I spilled it coz the table was wobbling. In addition they gave me the wrong muffin (Apple instead of strawberry) which I realized only after I took a bite. Luckily I don’t have allergy for apples.

Beautiful hidden place in Bushwick. «Our little secret», like the barrista said. Definitely a place to discover for a coffee or tea and a great granola if you’re in Bushwick! And pay good attention, cause it might be a bit tricky to find :)

Nice interior, lots of space. I had a cortado, which was great, and a pistachio madeleine, which was a bit meh — the texture was good, but the flavor was more lemon-​y than pistachio-​y. All 3 bathrooms were completely out of toilet paper and paper towel, though.

Done with this place completely. The coffee always tastes burned, and today, I waited 40 minutes for an egg sandwich. Turns out they forgot about my order — big surprise. Got it 2 minutes later. The eggs were clearly refrigerated and were ice cold, while the rest of the sandwich was hot… it was disgusting. Bringing my business to AP from now on; I felt this way previously, but this visit solidified my decision. Bring your money elsewhere.

As I have written in many of my reviews. I was a huge goth chick in high school and I guess the Emily Strange in me will never die. I was drawn to Kave mainly because I thought it meant cave in a different language since, the logo is a rad bat with exposed bone structure. I have been informed that Kave actually means coffee in Hungarian. The owner is Hungarian. But don’t come here looking for GHOULash… but be ready to pleasantly surprised.
It took 3 times before I finally found the coffee shop. I had to use Unilocal to discover the secret of the entrance. There is actually two door entrances and a back gate entrance. I personally love the side entrance by Knickerbocker even though the address states Flushing… Flushing has the entrance under the «Shops at Loom» sign. The Knickerbocker entrance is a gorgeous green door with intricate little carving details and a beautiful neon sign reading «KAVE ESPRESSO BAR». It reminds me of hanging in Budapest last summer. Then you walk down the long hallway, passing light fixtures made of steamer baskets until you reach the caffeine sanctuary. The furniture here is curated, beautiful design works and the wrap around espresso bar has some super sweet, fashionable, rock n roll types mixing up mean cups of espresso. The merch is a must have. They have black tees with the logo for only $ 10, totes and even coffee. I wish they would make lapel pins. I would totally rock that bat on my leather vest.
There is also a delicious spread of sweet and savory nibbles. I’ve had the lemon muffin and it was perfectly sweetened with a nice zesty touch. The breakfast sandwich is easily a favorite of mine. So much that I have tried to replicate it’s perfection at home. I order the baguette, spicy mayo, a sliced up soft boiled egg and a sharp cheddar that is all melted and heated in the toaster oven. I love that the baguette always taste fresh and easy to bite through. I highly recommend giving it a try. And it’s big enough to split with someone. It’s a little bit of a splurge at $ 6.50 but definitely worth it when you want to treat yo self! And I like to treat myself with that and there delicious 24 hour cold brew. And then sit in their gigantic patio and soak up the morning rays.
My only issue with this place is that you have to leave an id to use the restroom and you have to go in the middle of the mall market to use the restroom.
I think I will be attempting to take their coffee classes to finally make my own heart designs at home.
Kave is easily one of my favorite coffee shops in NYC and definitely worth the trek to Bushwick to get caffeinated.

Cave, its cave, no cave, not kaaavay, which sounds dumb. It doesn’t matter how many times that a tall, thin, blank, photo fodder of a barista corrects me… I’m calling it CAVE. It’s a hidden coffeshop with a bat logo… sooooo cave. I’m a caveman.
Kavé is one of the best coffee shops at the very least in Bushwick. It’s not because of the staff. I will say that there is one Barista (ill update her name next visit) that is so sweet and welcoming that even if the space sucked I’d come back for her. In my opinion coffee shops, the ones you want to hang out at all day, don’t require a friendly staff just a competent one. I don’t care if your a ninny-​poop as long as you can make a great latte and Americano, etc.
Kavé is hidden inside a shopping mall (ish) location on the edges of Bushwick, accessible by not only the front but through the huge back patio.
If your like me and enjoy a true New Yorkian breakfast’s: Cigarettes and Coffee… then their huge and comfy back patio is well worth the visit. The inside is large, open and tends to look like an add for an apple store. Granted at this day and age, glowing apples are everywhere. The atmosphere lends itself to more of a library feel then a hipster hangout. This is key if you want to escape by yourself and do your own thing.
The music is (I assume) the playlist or Pandora of whoever is working (hopefully not the non personality Swedish catalog model who corrects your pronunciation of words… in her non native language. Irony?) It has tended to be mid tempo EDM, like German producer Recondite, the kind of music that is comfortable to listen to or not, but doesn’t disrupt thought or conversation. The large back patio has no music.
The coffee is good and strong, it doesn’t stand out enough for me wanting to buy a pound for home use but I dig it. The food options are fairly common with cousant and baked goods. The egg and cheese sandwich with spicy mayo was good, $ 6. I wouldn’t go there for the food, usually coffee shops are only a food destination if they have kick ass bagels. Thats not this place.
The best part of the coffee cave is the logo… an awesome bat (the vamp not baseball) that adorns their merchandise like tee shirts and tote bags which were at an affordable $ 10.
I wish them success but hope it still manages to stay hidden, because packed popular coffee shops blow.

Wifi is good. Seating is plenty. Pretension is in the air.
I am always on the hunt for good places to work. I stumbled upon Kave in the shops of the Loom. I will say that the behind the counter staff comes with more pretension than I can handle.

This was a chill nice place, but now they turned it into a house music party, hopefully just for the day.
Nice back yard. Not much natural light make it into the place.

Tucked away in a mall-​setting, you’d never know it was here.
Large space. Most folks are wasting their day away on their Macbooks. Good cold brew, and bomb ice tea. Large backdoor area with plenty of sun.
Think I spent $ 6 for an iced tea and a cold brew. Decently priced.
Could be a nice spot to get some work done, or to just lay in the sun.

Best iced coffee I’ve had in Bushwick, hands down. Love the ambience of this place, and it’s usually not too crowded since it’s tucked away in a shopping plaza. Also there’s a pet store in the plaza so sometimes I go pet their kittens when I need a break from working lol.
–1 star because they have no AC and it’s too hot these days to work there without dripping sweat (or it was broken the last few times i’ve gone).
–1 star because the service is consistently poor.

I live and work in the neighborhood. Kave has been my go-​to place when I need a piece of quiet. Love their homemade lavender syrup with soy latte! Love the space, music, location. I love it the most when they have pianists playing. Perfect for reading and thinking.

I like this café. It’s kind of hidden away in this little market area, but the space is really big with ample seating options.
The drinks I’ve had are really good. I especially like the lavender syrup they offer and HIGHLY recommend it in an iced coffee. SO GOOD!
The espresso is pretty bad. My fiancè had a double shot there and definitely wasn’t a fan. Iced lattes/​cappuccinos are fine since the espresso gets masked a little bit.
Otherwise, the place is nice. Baristas aren’t overly friendly but they’ve never been rude and the service is always pretty fast.
It’s also insanely hot in there so beware.

That lavender flavor will change the way you drink coffee for ever.

The coffee is whatever. Not super strong, which I prefer. The atmosphere is nice although they don’t seem to have ac, so its warm in the summer. You can go outside for a breath of fresh air across from the dump site. I’ve lived here for 3 years and come here often, as I live across the street. However, food and coffee isn’t great (and definitely overpriced), some of the baristas are friendly but there are a couple that are super unfriendly. Its annoying you have to leave your ID to get a key to the bathroom. You would think by this point, there would be at least one designated bathroom for this place.
Also, to people reviewing this place complaining that it’s not a «cave»…thats because the word is Kave, NOT cave, both pronounced and spelled differently, with a different meaning. These people clearly walked over from Roberta’s.

Great spot located inside the Looms. You can access through the exterior corridor on Knickerbocker, or by walking into the Looms entrance on Flushing and heading toward the back.
The décor is dark wood, dotted with plans and a grand piano. Like a cave, maybe? Heh. I sat here one afternoon trying to plug away at work, only to be delighted by someone randomly playing on the piano. Such lovely idea! There’s also outdoor seating for the warmer months. Access to power outlets is limited, so charge up before you come.
They’ve got great coffee drinks and a nice selection of teas — see the outline at the counter. I haven’t tried any of their food, but there’s tons of cookies, muffins, pastries, quiches, and a few sandwiches. They have some limited vegan and GF options as well.
The only thing I dislike is having to give collateral for a bathroom key, and ya know, the general state of the bathrooms. Not sure if that’s their issue or the buildings, but I’m guessing the later, so no hard feelings toward Kave.

Mediocrity at best. I met a fellow Unilocaler here for a coffee date and we spent about an hour and a half conversing and taking in the feel of this place. In short, I just wasn’t impressed with anything about the Kave.
To start, it’s called «The Kave» but interior reminds me of an industrial warehouse. «The Warehouse» would be a more fitting name. I don’t think there was any effort to make this place look or feel like a cave. If theming means anything to you The Kave will be disappointing in that area. Another thing I didn’t like about this place is their lack of seating. I had to stand in the middle of the place for about 15 mins and scout out a place to sit. As soon as I found a place to sit I had to rush to claim the seats. Within ten mins three other people tried to snatch the seat I was saving for my Unilocal counterpart who was on her way.
About the coffee and such, I had a vanilla latte and she had the Cortado. The latte was pretty standard and enjoyable but my friend did not enjoy her Cortado at all. It was so bad she didn’t even finish it. She compared the Cortado to a shot of highly potent flammable grain alcohol. After a hit and miss experience with their coffee we decided to have some baked goods. I had a scone and she had chocolate croissant. The scone or biscuit or whatever they call it was completely flavorless. Probably the worst baked good I have ever had in any coffee establishment. My friend really enjoyed her chocolate croissant which I guess made up for the fact that they did not have the banana/​nutella croissant she really wanted. Just like with the coffee they were ⁵⁰⁄₅₀ on the pastries.
All in all, there’s just not much to this place. I won’t say that I would never come back her again but with all the coffee shops in Brooklyn I really doubt I would have a reason to revisit The Kave. I rate this place a 2.5 because they were pretty much ⁵⁰⁄₅₀ in every category. Some things were good and some were bad. If you want a simple cup of coffee or late and you’re in the area then this place will suffice. If you’re looking for ambiance, delicious edibles or masterful «barista-​ing» keep looking.
