I like the factory because this is where the chocolate gets made(and the chocolate is divine and you can see it being made). Also the whole place smells of chocolate. Also the chocolate is sooo good. Also they have all the flavors here. Not 5 stars because it doesn’t feel inviting enough to sit down and indulge there and then.

Such a dilemma picking how many stars to give. I actually thought I had already given a stellar review for this place a month ago and was hoping to include an addendum– I hadn’t. So here goes. This chocolate is amazing. The owner was working during our first visit and he made us the most delicious hot chocolate I have ever had. Mind blowing. We bought a bunch of chocolate to bring home(we live over four hours away but visit the city often), ordered a bunch for Valentine’s day and came back yesterday while on business to have another one of those amazing drinks. We couldn’t have been more disappointed. The only validating thing about our experience is that another Unilocal review was written yesterday about the incredibly rude female counter employee– I actually cannot even believe she still has a job here. It’s extremely disappointing how rude she was to my family and child. The drinks(we paid over 20 in hot chocolate) were very, very weak and watery hot milk, not at all the same drink that the owner had made us before. The inconsistency here with service and product is tragic, sadly I don’t think we will ever go back.

Truffles at the store are $ 3 each or 8 for $ 25(huh) while they may make kick ass chocolate they sure suck at math. Fix your math and ill fix the mistake i made in stars.

The $ 3 chipotle truffle way out here was quite good. They don’t offer tours, and replied with a bad explanation(really a lack thereof) when I asked about tours*, which is odd because there’s likely not much foot traffic as they seemed scared by my entrance but I guess they’re content with their current distribution-heavy model. *I asked how they made their hot chocolate and received the answer«we just heat up dark chocolate», so they clearly need some marketing help.

The best chocolate you’ll ever put in your mouth. You can tell it’s crafted with love and care. The staff are friendly and informed. The space itself is like stepping into someone’s personal recreation of Wonka’s factory. I cannot recommend this place enough!

I was really, really looking forward to visiting this place, as I’d heard amazing things about the hot chocolate. We went today, ordered hot chocolate, and effectively paid $ 5 for a cup of steamed milk. It wasn’t even brown in color; just slightly off-white with flecks of chocolate here and there. None of this delicious, rich creaminess that everyone talks about. We couldn’t even TASTE the chocolate. So disappointing. Why on earth would you sell hot chocolate with barely any chocolate in it? I don’t come to expensive chocolate factories for a glass of warm milk. Samples at the counter were bomb, but this was a huge let down.

At its best, artisanal Brooklyn is democratic. If you have the money and can stand to wait in line, you can eat five star food(Marco’s, Moto, Momo Sushi Shack) or drink well(Tandem, The Narrows) without Sex and the City tacky elitism of bottle service and«knowing someone.» Divorced of social ritual, food has become less of a class issue and more experiential. You also don’t have to leave your neighborhood or rent a car to visit a chocolate factory. Fine and Raw is a small, sparse factory lightly hidden behind the superfluous natural foods store. With white exposed brick, it can be mistaken for an art studio or furniture store. It is mostly one room with chocolate vats swirling behind a partition. It is also my favorite fancy chocolate brand because it tastes good and is raw, vegan(?), and«healthy.» The chubby little bars wrapped in a paper design(an indie doodle of some burlesque cowgirl) and golden ticket foil are my favorite. They are rich like milk chocolate without being bitter(or containing dairy?) and the inside melts in your mouth. My favorite is the cacao coconut bar because it doesn’t contain jagged little nut pieces. Make no mistake, raw cacao chocolate is quite delicious especially for people who don’t like dark chocolate(also significantly more addictive). Current veganism with its food blogs/emphasis on flavor(rather than Quorn or PETA threats) has a surprisingly D.I.Y. spirit and it is possible to make your own truffles or even chocolate blocks without spending $ 7 on a small bar. I encourage you to give it a try.

I’ve never been to the actual chocolate factory. However, I’ve been a fan of Fine & Raw for the past three years. For health reasons, among other things, I cannot consume sugar. This includes palm sugar, agave, coconut sugar, maple sugar, etc. Thus, I am, beyond, grateful to Fine & Raw for making a delicious sugar-free cacao bar.

I’m on a quest for some spectacular chocolate here, anywhere, in New York that doesn’t cost a fortune. Having lived in Europe for a while, I’m fairly spoiled when it comes to the good stuff. This isn’t it. Had a bonbon bar which had the texture and and likeability of a basic valrhona feve: the stuff that’s meant for melting and cooking, not savoring on its own. Chalky, one note, totally meh. I will not get again, and for $ 9 for an ounce and a half, I should be transported by it’s awesomeness. This just feels like the Emperor’s new clothes. Boo to Fine & Raw. Total disappointment.

Walked by this place about a month ago. It’s around the corner from my favorite bfast place. I have walked by a hundred times and I never noticed this place. I walked in and its a chocolate Factory. You can actually walk over and see them making it. They had free samples on the counter so I was able to try some diff chocolates. A friend of mine told me to try the hot chocolate. It was pure chocolate, but I needed to add a lot of sugar to make it less bitter. It was a bit expensive. Wasn’t as gd as Max brenner(oh gosh this place is the best) but I’ll give it another try.

«Highly recommend storing at least one on your tongue for 5 minutes everyday.» That’s what their website suggests for storage. I been following this advice for a week now, and it stored fantaaaaaabulously!!! Try it. Now! The store and factory pretty awesome. A chocolate factory in a heart of ol’ Williamsburg… Pull that tall and heavy metal door and step into a dream… Chocolate dream… Rustic, a bit industrial, open lofty space with couple couches and low tables. You can see factory floor thru the glass wall, how cool is that? Different bars and flavors to choose from, and you can do cute gift boxes too — treat yourself or that special someone! The Salt bar is very good — great balance, and so is Mesquite — nice choice if you looking for something subtle and not too sweet! Lucuma & Vanilla is heavenly. I can eat that all day…(wait, I been eating it all day!) Also tried Bonbons and Chunky bars — they are good, but I still prefer regular bars — all of them. They also serve hot chocolate(of course), which I am yet to try. I will! Definitely will be back.

With an emphasis on their chocolate being organic, they’re also working to make sure that everything is as green and sustainable as it can be. The packaging is recycled and even the ink on the packaging is non-toxic and vegetable based. I really like eco-conscious companies, and was looking forward to trying the chocolate itself. I chose lucuma and vanilla. It’s a semi dark chocolate, but I got more notes of the lucuma, a subtropical fruit of Peru, than the vanilla. In fact, I couldn’t tell there was any vanilla. Instead, I got hints of honey, which I’m attributing to the maple-like flavors in the lucuma. Right off the bat, you get that bitterness of a dark chocolate, which, I’m usually not a fan of, but, enjoyed. It prompts you to savor each bite and not scarf the entire bar at once. One thing that I wish was different was the texture. I was expecting for it to be a bit smoother, but ended up a tad grainy to me.

A few of us from the 4th street Food Co-op took the tour of this factory on a Saturday; the factory is right around the corner from the Pine Box Rock Shop, where there was a Vegan Shop-Up taking place that day. We had a great time gawking at the machines; when they showed us the enrobing machine – for coating chocolates – everyone recalled the episode of «I Love Lucy» in which Lucy and Ethel are working in a chocolate factory on the assembly line.(The conveyor belt starts moving faster and faster, and the two start stuffing chocolates in their mouths, their shirts, anywhere they can hide them to keep up the pace.) Tip: Although these chocolates are pricey, they’re meticulously crafted and worth the price, in my opinion; also, the best price around is to be had at the 4th street co-op. If you’re a working member, you can get an even deeper discount. Just sayin.’

Fine & Raw Chocolate Factory was such a fun stop! Visiting Brooklyn for the first time me and my friends were in the mood to check out coffee shops. As we were walking around we came across the factory and had to go in. When we walked in we were greeted with not only the beautiful smell of coco beans and chocolate but also one of the Factories employee Courtney Fitzgerald; by the end of our visit we renamed her Charlie =). Courtney was very knowledgeable about the factory, gave us a tour, explained the chocolate making process, and had samples(which is always awesome!!!) Me and my friends also got the opportunity to meet the chocolate makers(sisters) that were also very nice! It was an all around great visit! They have such a unique style and chocolate selection and they have Coffee! It’s a definite must visit if you haven’t yet! Thank you again for all your help Charlie =)

I’m nibbling on their 83% Bar w. Cocoa Nibs right now, and it is rich, and very sweet, and the nibs lend it a bit of crunchiness. I eat a lot of dark chocolate and this is one of the best bars I’ve had in a long time. (Be warned though, chocolate this dark will taste bitter if you’re not used to it. Keep that in mind. It’s not for every palate.) Aside from plain chocolate bars(offered at 70% and 83%, both I think available either plain or with cocoa nibs), they also offer a small range of flavored chocolate bars — e.g. with sea salt, with coconut, etc. Lastly, I tried their iced hot chocolate – it was sweet but not too sweet, and refreshing on a very hot day. The store itself is a neat place – they make the chocolate here and you can see all the machinery. The guy at the counter told me that on weekdays, they have chocolatiers here doing their thing, and if you show up and ask them, they’ll explain it all to you and show you around. I came on a weekend. #tragic

And she said«No. No. No.» Yea… I’ve tried dairy free free truffles before and they were nothing like this atrocity. I love supporting small businesses but this place is giving chocolate a bad name. I’m going to be optimistic and hope I tried a bad batch because they make the chocolate in-house. Ermahgahd these small sample bites burned my palate. The sea salt chocolate was very dark and had an unusual texture. It was almost waxy. The salesclerk was kind enough to let me sample the truffle because I wasn’t a fan of the sea salt chocolate and sadly it was not much better. The coconut oil in the truffle hit hard and then the sea salt overpowered the truffle. I never wanted a piece of chocolate to disappear so quickly before. I want this establishment to survive because I believe in their chocolate philosophy but they need to tweak their products so that I’m can actually purchase something.

The concept of this place overall seems like a pretty cool idea. Basically, it’s a small Chocolate Factory that sells freshly made Chocolate as well as Chocolate based drinks and Coffee to customers. I like the rustic, factory-like, and hipster-ish interior of this place. They have like two small tables with chairs and a red velvet sofa you can sit down to chill/relax while enjoying your drink. Staff was really chill and no pressure nor attitude. I got the large $ 5 Hot Chocolate which was actually freshly made by the guy behind the counter and he asked if I wanted Whole Milk in it and when I asked him if they have Soy and he said Yes! I’m lactose intolerant so that’s definitely winning in my book. The Hot Chocolate came was ready in about 8 minutes. The drink was very rich and thick(think of it as Mexican Hot Chocolate… that is if you’ve tried it) If you’re used to SWEET Chocolate, you’re not really going to like it. The taste was different and for some, it could be classified as an acquired taste. Since I’m down with bitter drinks(Yes, I don’t put sugar in my coffee/tea) I actually like it. However, seemed a bit pricey as the«large» cup was not actually ‘large’. Overall, pretty chill laid back place. To sum it up, I gave a star for chill service, hipster interior, Hot Chocolate, and 1 star for the SOFA. Such a comfortable way to enjoy your drink or to just relax! I saw the excellent ratings for this place and had to give it a try. I tried their sea salt chocolate and chocolate truffles with coconut oil. I had to hide my dislike expression because it tasted awful. Super bitter(I know it’s suppose to be bitter because it’s dark chocolate) and no taste. No thanks to both. Double fail. I’ll stick with my truffles from 5th Ave Chocolatiers.
