You’ll learn to play what you hear and become a well-​rounded musician through learning applying scales & technique, reading music, theory and chord notation, soloing, comping and cuitar chord solos, ear-​training and repertoire. Many of Rick’s students are now professional musicians and music teachers in the New York area and around the world.

All lessons are supplemented with extensive online learning resources on our website including videos, transcriptions and play-​alongs .

History

Established in 1982.

Jazz Guitar Lessons is the website of guitarist Rick Stone. Rick has been a professional jazz musician, performing and teaching in the NYC area for over 30 years.

20th Century Guitar Magazine calls Rick «one of the finest straight-​ahead guitarists on the current NYC jazz scene.» He has recorded 5 albums as a leader and led all-​star groups with major jazz players like; Kenny Barron, Barry Harris and Ralph Lalama in performances at Carnegie Recital Hall, the Blue Note, the Smithsonian Institution, and other major venues. His trio can be heard regularly in New York area clubs and he is on the jazz faculty at several NYC area universities.

Rick brings all this experience to the table when he teaches YOU how to play jazz guitar! You won’t be learning from a novice, but from an experienced professional musician and teacher who can cut through the B.S. and show you what you REALLY need to know to become a better musician.

From fresh interpretations of jazz standards to lyrically evocative originals, jazz guitarist Rick Stone is an artist with a clear musical vision. His fluid, full-​bodied sound pays homage to the great masters of the past while maintaining a personal style with a contemporary edge.

Rick has performed and recorded with many major names in jazz including Kenny Barron, Barry Harris, Eric Alexander, Ralph Lalama and Matt Wilson. His albums «Fractals,» «Samba de Novembro,» «Steppin’ Back,» «Far East» and «Blues for Nobody» have received critical accolades and extensive radio airplay.

Rick is a respected teacher at Jazzmobile, BCM, Hofstra and several area colleges and writes for Just Jazz Guitar, Jazz Guitar Life, and Mel Bay Publications. He holds a B.M. in performance from Berklee College of Music and a M.A. in Jazz Studies from the Aaron Copeland School of Music at Queens College where he studied with Jimmy Heath, Ted Dunbar and Donald Byrd.
