History

Established in 2011.

Alex developed an affinity for percussion when he was 11. Well, really, he discovered a love that he was born with. He quit piano to pursue drums. In college he drummed in a rhythm ensemble (like Stomp) called Boomshaka. There he learned world drumming and body percussion. He spent 2 years drumming, gigging, recording with the SF-​based psychedelic glam rock band, We Will Be Lions. Now, in NYC, he’s sharing his knowledge/​love of rhythm with you.

Alex Hersler is truly a joy to work with. Lessons with Alex felt more like collaboration then instruction. He has a fresh approach to rhythm and I found myself engaged in a way I’ve never felt in a music lesson. He’s also an exciting performer in a variety of genres. He’s young with diverse musical interests and he doesn’t fall into the stuffiness you get with a lot of drum teachers. I would recommend Alex to anyone just starting out with percussion, or advanced players looking to find more cohesion in their style.
