I’m so glad this place is around the corner from me because they make the best patties. You can order a dozen mini-patties 24 hrs in advance too but you gotta do it in person and leave a deposit. Great for parties. Their Easter buns are amazing too.

Jamaican Pride could be any other good bakery in Flatbush, with its colorful cakes with their neon frosting, the wide array of saran wrapped savories and of course, patties. When I am totally unabashed about wolfing down a patty only five feet away from the bakery I got it from and then running back in to get more, I know I have found one stupendous bakery for patties. Their patties have a delicious and soft crust that flakes when you bite into it, to reveal fillings oh so wonderfully tasty, with just the proper amount of heat to give you a nice kick and so perfectly seasoned I had never eaten a more flavorful patty. I first bought the chicken patties for family, and an ackee one for myself. Gobbling down the ackee, I decided it was time to seize the day, ran back in, bought some beef patties for the sisters and a vegetable one for myself. My pickiest sis gave the seal of approval to the chicken. Better than C. J’s, their normal go-to patty spot, she stated, giving the thumbs up for the spicy filling. And sis hadn’t even had the Jamaican Pride customer fave, the beef patty yet. Better than Errol’s, I sighed like a fickle lover, betraying my former patty place. Jamaican Pride patties are a nice size, varying in price from $ 1.65 for beef to $ 3.00 for the totally worth it ackee patty. I liked the vegetable patty also but it couldn’t compete with the flavor of the ackee. Fillings are not skimpy so that you taste the perfect meld of crust and whatever stuffing you choose to have inside. Two can definitely make a meal. Service was efficient – if you don’t know what you want, they will move on to the next person. They were friendly and in my case, quite amused. I had the same server who handed me napkins, «For the crumbs on your face,» she said, barely containing her smile. Crumbs on my face, joy in my belly makes for one fabulous Jamaican bakery. And much thanks to Alicia G for her Unilocal review about the ackee patty here that made me try Jamaican Pride in the first place.

Very good and authentic Jamaican bakery. They have the Jamaican patty’s they are known for, cakes, cookies, and a bunch of other sweets. I tried the beef patty and chicken patty. Both were great but I thought the chicken was better. Will be back for the sweets.

We ventured from mid-town to find this spot on a bitterly cold, dark afternoon. We walked in to a warm cozy«bakery»(with whole fried fish for sale among other items taking it out of the pure bakery realm) exuding delicious smells… the veggie patty, stuffed with succulent collards, might have been the best. But the beef patty was awesome too, and the salmon one delicious. Now, the red peas soup with cocoa bread. Nothing better on a cold day. Top that off with rum cake to die for and a friendly, inviting staff, and you know that you need to make the Flatbush trek.

They have Ackee patties. They. Have. Ackee.Patties. I suggest this place if you want a quick meal on the run. It’s great to go to in the morning because they’re open pretty early and close late enough. They usually have most patties in stock. The service isn’t fast, it isn’t slow, but who cares, you can get a pattie for less than $ 5 and be full(well, kind of)

I’ve been eating beef patties since I was a teenager. This is by FAR the best I’ve had. Located in the heart of east flatbush, a thriving and burgeoning neighbourhood on the cusp of genteelism. I stopped in with a coworker one day and proceeded to order a beef patty with Cocoa bread. He(the coworker) asked me what cocoa bread is. My response was thus: ‘I’m a silly peckerwood, never having been to the Caribbean, and you’re an Islander — yet you don’t know what this is!!!’. The entire place erupted in riotous laughter, and I walked out of there with 2 free patties. Parking sucks. The wait can be painful. The service is friendly and they don’t mind chatting. You want authenticity? Come here. You want fast food and trash — go to Golden Krust. Bloodclot and all that jazz.

One of my go to summer time snack stops when I’m heading back to the heights from the rockaways. The patties are really good here, with a wider variety than just the usual beef and jerk chicken. I find a salmon patty and an ackee patty make a perfect lunch. Man, I can eat an ackee patty right now — they’re really a tasty treat.

Last weekend my boyfriend and I discovered Free Tours by Foot. Our tour guide Derrick, showed us the ropes of Flatbush Avenue and introduced us to some unforgettable Brooklyn eats. We were pretty much all over the map tasting Trinidadian food, to Italian food, to Jamaican food and everything was de-licious! And the best part about this whole tour? Yeah, I’m going to with with that it was free! Before the tour, I had no idea that Flatbush Avenue was so diverse. In just a few blocks, we sampled food from all over the world! Our First stop was De Hot Pot where we indulged in a traditional Trinidadian dishes like Double and Spicy Mango. We continued the Trinidadian feel at Scoops where we sampled some of the most delicious corn chowder of my life! Next stop, Peppa’s Jerk Chicken where they chopped and packed a whole jerk chicken in less than 1 minute. Our fourth stop was at Jamaican Pride Bakery for a Bun and Cheese and a Fried Dumpling. Next, we bused over to the 100 year old Mama Louisa’s Hero Shop and had ourselves some meatballs. To conclude the tour we went to a Trinidadian bakery called Allen’s Bakery and sampled a cheese roll. New York City is a stomping ground for food tours and most of them range about $ 50 bucks a pop, not including gratuity, but not Free Tours by Foot. These tours are great because you choose what you want to eat at each stop and in the end, each person usually only spends about $ 7-$ 12. And since you barely spend any money on the tour, it’s an even better reason to tip your tour guide generously. Free tours by Foot does all sorts of tours, not just food, so check out all they have to offer here and don’t forget to tell them who sent you– Hungry White Girl!

Joined the Flatbush food tour and this place was part of it. We tried their beef and chicken patties and they’re both so good — tasty, spicy and filling. Their chicken patty is a bit spicier, flavorful. I hope they will soon have varying levels of «spiciness» so my kids can enjoy them too just like what we have back home(mild, hot and volcano!).

OMG, I just ate a tasty jamaican beef patty from this place. After living in the area for more than a year and passing this dive for all that time, I never knew what a gem it was. The beef patty was moist on the inside and flaky on the outside. Delishous! If you are in the area, don’t pass, go in. Also try a slice of cake which is nice, sweet and moist! The patty was 1.50 and the cake was 2.50. For a late lunch $ 4.00 wasn’t bad. Now it’s time to work it all off. In addition to the cakes, beef patties, there are all kinds of other breads they sell. You will miss out if you pass it by, so give it a try!

The best Jamaican beef patty I have ever had. I love a food adventure and this is a must stop if you are exploring Brooklyn for the best of’s! This little bakery has awesome treats but the highlight was the $ 1.50 beef patty.

This place is the real deal. I’ve lived around the corner for a few years and have been buying patties, bread and cake from them the entire time. Their patties(beef, chicken, fish, veggie) are in a whole different league and they’re $ 1.50. They make great breads and red velvet cake too.

I’m not Jamaican. Have never been, and I don’t play one on TV. Patties are not a stand alone Jamaican invention per se; it’s their variant on the classic English«meat pie» that’s ubiquitous at football stadiums and other working class gatherings all over the UK. The rest of us in the former British Empire still say«pies» for our versions, Jamaicans in their infinite creativity, use the word«patty» for reasons beyond me. In my 20+ years in the States. I would say Jamaica Pride makes the best patties I’ve ever had. Their beef patties are freshly baked, with a sublime light, flaky, slightly savory pastry. One bite exposes hot, steaming globs of ground beef — perfectly seasoned with aromatic scotch-bonnet peppers and hints of allspice. The smell is just to die for. Buy an accompanying piece of «coco» bread to make a meal of it or double up. I’ve never had the chicken or vegetarian versions but if it’s as half as good as the beef, they are worth buying. It makes a perfect beach treat for all you Riis Beach going hipsters. The service is efficient but can be moody, expect to be occasionally yelled at, by one server in particular. I got admonished once, for having the nerve to ask the person in front if me, if they were being helped, when I was called upon. It’s worth it however. If your only patty experience is the bland, mass produced, still born, frozen versions from the likes of Golden Crust, you haven’t had a patty until your go to Jpride. The staff can be moody but are generally friendly. ps: their raisin buns aren’t bad either.

Best value. The veggie patty is the most wholesome meal you can get for $ 1.50. They’re baked fresh on the premises, so you know you’re getting a patty with some love. Not some frozen shit tossed in a pizza oven. Really nice atmosphere with friendly staff.

This is a small bakery right behind a bus stop on Flatbush Avenue. It is between Parkside Avenue and Clarkson Avenue. They are well known in the community and have received positive reviews from the NY Times(The article is on the wall). They are known for GREATBEEFPATTIES! As in Jamaican style beef patty. But they have them in Beef, vegan, chicken(also really yummy!) Their patties are so flaky and fresh and tasty I can’t reccomend enough! Not to mention they are cheap– Beef Patty is $ 1.50. Cocoa Bread is excellent as well but you really don’t need it as the patties are filling enough on their own. They also make cakes, cookies, cupcakes, bulla cake, pepper shrimp and have homemade soups on Friday & Saturday!

They are the best in Brooklyn that I know… they are the closest thing to a really Jamaican Beef Pattie… they taste just like Juici Beef Patties in Jamaica… flaky, warm, well spiced… you could literally see the people in the back making the patties and bringing them out… I gave the a grade of 95÷100− Their ackee patties were $ 3 each which is a little steep. Their beef patties were excellent and their chicken patties were good too… they had other delicacies there. but you could certainly tell they specialize in patties… also, when I went to buy a dozen… it was still $ 1.50…I think there should be a special price for a dozen… like $ 15 for a dozen… buy 10 get 2 free… you know? But in any case… the best in Brooklyn… im still searchin New York and I will find the best… but so far. this has been my best experience! In terms of Patties…

I discovered this little take-out deli/bakery thanks to Time Out and my search for their 100 best taste of 2009. In any other circumstance, I’d probably walk right by the unassuming hole-in-the-wall and never even notice it. The only thing we ordered was the Chicken Patty, so I can’t talk about anything else. It looked like they did have a range of pastries and meat pies. There wasn’t much activity(aside from a few kids waiting on their order) and even less seating options(read: none) So we headed back into the cold and decided to eat our list item on the subway platform(even though the station was outdoors). The patty certainly warmed us up. The golden pastry flaked away as I took my first few bites. Inside, I discovered a warming, rich filling of ground chicken and lots of Jamaican spices — with a hint of curry. It definitely had more than a little heat. It made me think of a chicken pot pie meets a Hot Pocket. The flavors were all tasty, but I did wish there were some more vegetables and textures. It was a nice little afternoon snack and I was thrilled to enjoy a little taste of a cuisine and neighborhood that I don’t normally flock to. Thanks, Time Out! –eatthisny
