Great spot! Friendly employees, the woman behind the counter(the owner) is awesome(so nice and fun!), quality greenery, reasonable pricing, and pink elephant watering cans. For what more can you ask?!

Good selection of plants and decent prices. The employees care about the customer experience and will take their time to help you — the person who wrapped up my purchases took extra care making sure that they were wrapped in such a way that the plants would not break or be damaged en route home. Their hours of operation are pretty inconsistent and unpredictable though — they seem to open only when they feel like it, so definitely call in advance to see if they’re open before you go.

As a Brooklyn gal who doesn’t have a car– I am so thankful that this place is walking distance from my house. I have shopped here probably 3 or four times and they have everything I need and are always kind and help if you speak up when you need assistant. Call ahead for the hours of operation. I just walked there at 9:45am on a Tuesday and they were not open. :)

This is the best place in the Windsor Terrace area for purchasing christmas trees. We have purchased trees the past two years from J&L and both were excellent. Trees run around $ 35 for a 6′ tree. Both times, we picked up the tree on the Sunday of Thanksgiving weekend and both trees easily lasted through New Years(over 1 month). Our most recent tree from 2014 was so healthy that it started sprouted buds. A few things to know for a healthy tree. 1. Make sure they cut off an 1″ from the bottom. This helps the tree drink water. 2. A 6′ tree will consume 20−30+ ounces of water per day, so you must refill the water on a daily basis. Regular tap water works fine. 3. Keep it away from heat sources. For reference, we have also purchased trees from the sidewalk stands along 9th Street(Park Slope) and the green market at Grand Army Plaza. The J&L trees are less expensive and better quality.

I just moved to brooklyn and needed to freshen up my new garden. Went to JL during the week it was less busy and they were able to really help me understand the plants and flowers native to here that would do well. It was one stop shopping A to Z. Also I noticed that their prices are lower than Lowes and Home Depot on lot of things. Going there this week to get my Christmas tree!

Yesterday I went to J&L for the first time to place a big order to spring renovate a friend’s garden in Manhattan. The person serving me(who wasn’t the owner) was knowledgable and friendly and very helpful about organising delivery to Manhattan on a Friday afternoon. I was in a bit of a rush but everything was easy to organise. The selection was good for a small nursery. I would definitely shop there again.

I’d give less than a star actually. I called them last summer and they gave me a rough estimate on the phone for gardening work. So I just called again right now because I always keep local stores and shops in mind for all types of work. Whoever picked up said«Speak up I cant hear you» so i spoke up and asked about weed cleaning and he said«well im sorry i cant come right now». i didnt ask that. i asked if they do weed cleaning. i repeated myself and he said. «i cant give you a price right now» i didnt ask that either. i never got to finish my sentence. next thing he said was«ok.ok bye» and hung up on me. never again.
