Park Slope North Child Development Center (Helen Owen Carey Child Development Center) has been providing high quality child care and education, twelve months a year, for children ages 2 through 4 since 1974.

We have a dedicated teaching staff who are well trained. Many of our teachers are certified Early Childhood Educators. We have on-​site outdoor playgrounds, a kitchen which prepares hot lunches and two fresh snacks daily.

We have a play-​based curriculum, anchored to city– and state– standards. Our children are provided many opportunities for engaging, hands-​on learning and exploring. Our goal is to support families and help children become life-​long learners and develop the social and personal skills needed to succeed.

Our daughter started this year as a 2-​year-​old, and we’ve been thrilled with the school so far. We are especially excited about the fact that the school values diversity and was featured in the New York Times for being an example of an early childhood school that embraces income diversity (NY Times, «Let Rich and Poor Learn Together», 6÷12÷15).
The whole school is built around supporting working parents, so the program is a full day, 8 am — 5:45 pm, and full year, so you don’t need to scramble to find summer care. Plus they cook healthy meals on site for all the classrooms, so no scrambling each morning to pack lunches/​snacks. They have outdoor space right off the classrooms, a school garden, and a rooftop play area, so the kiddos get plenty of active play.
They also support responsive, child-​centered teaching and have both a full-​time school social worker and curriculum director. They have classrooms for 2 – 4 year olds, including UPK with wrap-​around care to complete the full day and summer.
