Handsome Dan’s Snocone & Candy Stand

Fairly nondescript-​looking mall on Bedford, so not surprising if you miss it or have never heard of it. The place is pretty fun with a lot of throwback-​style candy. The place is pretty fun.

Tiny little candy shoppe in the Williamsburg Mall is great to come and stock up on all sorts of vintage candies. They also have gummies, jelly beans, chocolates etc. if it’s a hot day, they make a wonderful shaved ice sno cone. I especially love the fact they have strawberry Charleston Chews and, my favorite, Whatchamacallit. It’s a tiny little place so be prepared to squeeze your way in. The staff are great too.

This place is so great! They’re a teeny tiny shop inside the mall with every candy you can think of from your childhood. It’s super kitschy with a done of old school candies/​flavors. My boyfriend was so excited to find big league chew. We didn’t try the cotton candy but I hear it’s great. Only negative is that they’re a bit pricey

This review is for the snow cone only. We came in on Father’s Day and they only had the following flavors available: mango, guava, grape, Arnold Palmer, and strawberry lemonade. I asked how often they change flavors, and the girl working said every four to five days based on ingredients and inventory. We ended up trying the mango and guava.
For $ 3.50, I was a little disappointed at the size, but I guess I shouldn’t have expected much since it was in Brooklyn. For reference, this snow cone is larger than the ones they sell at People Pop’s…and from top to bottom, it would probably fit into a 16oz cup. The ones here are larger in size, the ice is fluffier, and the flavors are way better. I would consider these more of a shaved ice vs a snow cone, which is what I prefer.
Other than wishing the portion was a bit larger, the ice itself was pretty soft and fluffy, and easy to spoon up. The flavors were sweet and flavorful, and she was generous with the syrup. Overall, I was very happy with my snow cone.
If ever in the area again, I would definitely come back; especially to try one of their more unique flavors. It’s a cute little shop inside a mini mall. The place is tiny, but it can physically fit a stroller and/​or wheelchair, assuming no one else is on there.

All tourists in narrow aisles getting candy from shelves, and a staffer barely paying attention to anyone. After my purchase and request to join the rewards club (per their sign), he just repeated name back incorrectly twice and claimed he’d put $ 4 on the card w/​no confirmation (very doubtful). Tamarind and root beer float Snocone for $ 3.26 was pretty refreshing but far from superb.

I do think this place is grossly overrated, that being said they don’t deserve a bad rating as I can certainly appreciate what they have going on here. Handsome Dan’s is a tiny booth inside of a tiny shopping center in the heart of Williamsburg’s Bedford Ave. They have a wall of candy, both by weight and by package, a selection of gourmet chocolates, and they also do snocones (and ocassionally cotton candy from my understanding). I believe the candy by weight are $ 6/​lb and they had some awesome selections of those. Snocones were $ 3 but sadly they only have 4 – 5 flavors to choose from, the flavors were a bit unique and seemed home made so that’s definitely a plus. In addition to the rotating flavors on the board they also have an option of adding condensed milk and/​or chocolat sauce. The girl working there didn’t recommend that addition to my lemon snocone so I don’t know what that’s like but will definitely stop back this summer to give it a try.

I love Handsome Dan’s. I’ve tried so many things at their place and all were brilliant. Try the cotton candy, the earl grey snow cone and the s’mores and chocolate covered graham crackers. All solid and cheap.

Amazing.
Salted Caramel Chocolate — so so so good. Perfect amount of salt. Chocolate is smooth. The caramel is just phenomenal. So soft. Melts in your mouth. Not hard. Not chewy. None of the less good sides of caramel. Really great.

What’s not to love about this bountiful candy stand?
Gum cigarettes? Check.
Old school chocolate bars? Check.
Candy that fizzes in your mouth? Very much check.
Friendly neighborhood man behind the counter? You got it.
Not to mention the snocones (not in season), hot apple cider, hot chocolate, and various nick knacks. Uncrowded on an early Saturday afternoon, so don’t let the small size deter you. A must-​stop in the area.

This place is a kids wonderland! So many candies and chocolates! I went into the store and the lady that works there came in 5 mins later. Lol idk what was up with that… But a chocolate bar is about $ 9.00, so if you love chocolate it’s worth it! They also have a lot of candy that I haven’t seen in years, cool spot. It’s also attached to the other stores so you don’t have to go outside !

I’m a sucker for sour candies and cotton candy so I’ve frequented this location as well as the East Village location numerous times.
Handsome Dan’s got your staples and unique, niche candies also. If you’re looking for candy or chocolate that you can’t find elsewhere, you can probably find them here. Nostalgia, ahhh! :)

Because sometimes you need cotton candy bad enough to go to Williamsburg to get it.
While you’re there, btw, if you end up buying like $ 20 worth of old school candy for your niece, that’s cool too. Those fake raspberry candies are actually better than I remember, which seems backwards.

A tiny, cute candy shop with a nice selection of candy. I only bought candy and didn’t actually try a snocone. I came on the Brooklyn food tour, so we got to sample some salted caramel chocolates. Delicious! The store was charming enough that I returned afterwards to buy some candy. I’m quite for the sucker for fill-​up-​a-​bag approach to buying candy (I like me some variety). I went with a plastic bag, but they also have the adorable (but slightly pricey) option of filling up mason jars.
As far as candy goes, they cover all the bases: gummies, jelly beans, licorice, chocolate. I was quite satisfied. They also carry some pretty unusual candies, most notably Japanese candy «kits». The kits guide you (in Japanese, unfortunately) to make a little candy «meal» through a surprisingly involved process. I’d really like to try it, but I’m not sure I could without knowing Japanese.
The mini-​mall location is nice as well. Grab a bag of candy and explore the shops!

Teeny tiny little spot in the Williamsburg Mini Mall. I came here in the summer on the Brooklyn Food Tour and was back here again last week. Its a cute little spot that has so much cool retro candy, at a certain age we all start to long for those retro candies of our childhood and if you are looking for it this place will probably have it. Try and come on a weekday afternoon or morning if you can as it gets pretty crowded. Tried their home made walnut brittle and while Im not the biggest brittle fan (I worry about having to make an emergency dentist visit) it was really good, sweet and buttery.

I like the place even though the prices were a liiitle ify I shelled out $ 3.75 for a darn chocolate covered smore which had kind a mediocre taste
their salted chocolate covered almonds were delicious and cheap !
This place is TINY but has a nice ambience, the store is nice and the clerk is a super nice light hearted sweet heart so you feel a bit less upset about paying.

If your coming here its best to avoid the chocolates because they are a bit pricey for chocolate that’s ORDERED from outside vendors I thought they were store made.

My girlfriend got candy from here and she thinks that Dan is actually pretty handsome. Maybe not so handsome as to call his business «Handsome Dan» but definitely handsome.

What a cute random candy shop!
Pros:
–they have various mason jars sizes for you to fill up with candy (I believe this cheaper was only $ 10) — makes a cute gift for friends!
–although the store is small, they have a diverse selection of candies (I wanted to try every piece of their chocolate selection)
–they have freshly made cotton candy (and I heard it’s good!). You’ll see the machine right outside their door
–they have a unique offer of sodas that you can’t find at a typical grocery store
Cons:
–it’s a very small store so if it’s crowded, it can be an unenjoyable experience
For all you people with a sweet tooth, you’ll enjoy this sweet little store

Great snow cones! Tried the strawberry basil and the blueberry coconut and they didn’t disappoint. The price was super reasonable too — only $ 3.50ish each. The strawberry basil was our favorite… very refreshing and just flavorful enough but not too sweet and syrupy like a lot of other snow cones which are soaked in sugar syrup.
They shaved the ice by hand which was also cool to watch. When they were done they asked us if we wanted any sweetened condensed milk on top, which we tried on both snow cones. The blueberry could have done without it since it was already sweet, but it added the right touch to the strawberry.
They also had a lot of other stuff for people with a sweet tooth — hundreds of types of candies and also interesting cotton candy flavors. They had some cool unique sodas too which would be good to check out if you’re not in the mood for candy.
I’ll be back for another snow cone and possibly a soda!

I found this place last summer & I am glad I did. It’s located in a min mall in the middle of Williamsburg on Bedford ave. From outside it looks like nothing but when you enter, you encounter many different shops.
Handsome Dans takes me back to my childhood. As you enter, you are engulfed w/​candy from the 70s, 80s, etc. It was such a nice experience to see all the candy I had as a child and brought back so many memories. My bf & I walked in not sure of what to get. It was a hot summer day and the staff recommend we try a Snocone. Home made syrup that was absolutely delish. The flavors vary from day to day. A fav of mine is the Passion fruit. They give you a generous amount and top it off w/​Condensed milk (ohhhhhhhh yeah)!!! A must try.
Cotton candy– is it possible to say that not all cotton candy is the same? Well, this one is definitely different. It had to be the best cotton candy I have ever had. LOL I’m serious!!!
The staff made my experience a great one. They are super nice. They just opened a new location in the East village. I had to check it out. Same great sweets & same amazing service. Good luck guys!!!

Hidden away inside a decrepit mini-​mall off Bedford Ave lies an amazing find of sweet delight.
Stumbling onto this place after seeing the chalkboard sign out on the sidewalk advertising sno-​cones we walked into a small candy shop that Willy Wonka would even approve of.
Sparsely decorated but sporting a diverse selection of candies retro-​style like a blast from the past, along with an array of present day sugary sweets, Handsome Dan’s delivers. Pop rocks, six pound gummy bears, Pez dispensers, atomic fireballs, Fruit Stripe gum, Chik-​a-​sticks, gumballs, cow tails, and many other treats.
The two guys working behind the counter are hipster cool and helpful. This place is a definate must visit next time I am near Bedford Ave.
Oh yeah, I almost forgot. The home made sno-​cones are pretty awesome. No, really, they are worth every cent of the $ 4 they charge. Large and flavorful, cold and refreshing, these things quenched our thirst during a warm afternoon. They had around five flavors to choose from. We had the Raspberry Lemon in which they actually squeezed a real slice of lemon on, and the syrup was not at all too sugary. Just right!
My choice was the Chocolate Milk sno-​cone that tasted like Yoo-​Hoo! Oh baby! Pure win all the way!
