I have been a loyal customer for about a year now and last week I was just highly disappointed by the owners mother which happens to be a worker there as well. I normally go for a wash n set and they charge me 25 $ for my medium length hair which I don’t complain at all about. So I go last week with my hair washed and a treatment just so they can remove it and blow dry directly and she has the nerve to charge me $ 35 when just the week before I go with my hair wash get direct blow dry and get charged $ 20 they are not stable at all with pricing. Some of them are rude. We can take Maria out of that category she’s very kind and always helps out very well with what you want. But I promised myself not to go back due to not keeping a specific price on a loyal customer who you can say went once a week.

Let me tell you people about this hair salon, I have been a loyal customer for years. As the years progress this hair salon! Has just gotten worse, the people that do your hair are rude & talk about you in their native tongue. They only know how to do permed hair or long and straight hair. Any other kind«natural» «curly» puffy” kinky” they aren’t good at all, they honestly just take a skinny tooth comb & begin to comb your hair while it’s wet by time you get up all your hair will be out your head. I would give this salon 0 stars if I could it’s more so sad because as a good hair dresser and salon you need to know how to different types of hair. They lack experience and good customer service. They are SOOOOOO rude in this place from sucking teeth to just staring at you while your getting your hair done I would go else where not this place ! There is a salon in parkslope called«head to toe» I would go there or another salon in Harlem that can handle different kind of hair this place can not !

I have frequently this place since moving to nyc 9 years ago and I was a loyal customer. Over the years the service has diminished. some of the shampoo and stylist are great but the owner Mildred is another story. She never acknowledges you(at least me) and seems she always has attitude I am not not sure if she knows much about hair. at least natural African american hair. which is what I have. My last visit she told me that I could not get a wash n set because I was natural? mind you, I have been getting it for the last nine years. So I walked out and I was the 2nd customer to do so. This place use to be very busy but now it looks like the customers have went elsewhere.(and please don’t think about going to sisters unisex because they are just as worst, see my review). Its too bad I will no longer return because they really do good work, its just the attitude and lack of knowledge… too many options in new york for dominican salons…

The owner is extremely rude. I have been a loyal client of Michelle’s for about 5years now and because of the owners disgusting demeanor I will never return. What she needs to understand as an owner is that she needs me more than I need her. I came an hour away from my home to have my hair done, Michelle was off but I needed my hair done for an emergency. I had called and told her what I wanted and that I was on my way. I arrived at 1:17 she then decides to tell me she can’t do my hair that she’s leaving at 2 and that there was too much of a process to be done with my hair. You should’ve told me when I was on the phone with you at 12:34pm. She’s a joke.

I wish I could give them NO stars! I went in for 2 tracks to be put in and a wash n set. The track was put in with no care and the they washed my hair but not my edges, I still had slicked down baby hairs when they were wrapping my hair. I thought I could deal but I couldn’t. This lesson cost me 60 dollars! Smh. If you’re African American avoid this place at all costs. They just go through the motions here. They’re not concern with what your hair needs or anything else like that. Do your research and go elsewhere. This was a couole months ago, BTW.

Not bad at all. And ridiculously cheap. I’ll be back. I usually go to Sister’s Dominican around the corner for basic maintenance because they are just a few blocks from my job, where I apparently live. So going near my home requires way too much effort. But Sisters always made me feel like a machine part on a conveyor belt. And there were so many people in and out that I never got the same person twice. Sometimes I didn’t even get the same person in the same day. Last time this resulted in me giving clear instructions to stylist #1 and having that person’s good work completely ruined by stylist #2 who was too busy gossiping to listen. So that prompted me to give Fulton Express a try after receiving their flyer on the street. What a difference! It is just as spacious but with fewer chairs so it does not feel as cramped. It was not crazy busy and it felt so relaxed, the way it should when you are doing something good for yourself. Nothing was rushed, but I wasn’t waiting around and forgotten on the sidelines. Yes, multiple people handled my hair, but that was only because my original stylist had gotten involved with something else and they knew I needed to get back to work. It was on MY schedule — not an effort to rush me out. Most importantly, the follow-up people LISTENED. I was very happy with my hair and thrilled with the low $ 20 wash, set, blow price. I will be coming back. There were about 5 women working there and I actually got names so I will go back and I will know whom to request. But to be honest, I watched a few of the ladies work on hair and the ones I saw seemed quite competent — even with scissors. So I’m not even stressed about who I get at this point. It will be nice to get input from various stylists. Bonus — They have a spacious clean bathroon and free WiFi. Te veo, Hermanas. I’ll be going here from now on.

I used to go here frequently for two years. Last year was my last. There was one lady that I loved. She used to always hook my little loose curls up. For whatever reason no one understands«blow out the roots ONLY». So when I find a woman willing to allow me to keep my curly hair loose and flowing, I stick with her. Every damn time I came here during my final months I was told a different price. I started out paying $ 20 for a wash & set, then $ 25. The last month I went there the«owner»(so she said) wanted $ 35. When I told her I’ve never paid them $ 35 and I wasn’t about to start today, she said my hair is natural that’s why I have to pay so much. I stated my hair is NOT natural. I MAY get a perm once a year but that’s not natural. Then she said the prices went up. 10 whole dollars. Yeah tf right. I was just there to get my hair done a few weeks prior to this incident so I’m not sure the blasphemy she speaks of. I told her I pay $ 20, $ 25 tops she said okay but next time I have to pay $ 35. There won’t be a next time! So of course them b! tches were talking about me in Spanish(minus the lovely woman who always did my hair). When I came from under the dryer with my rollers she started talking smack AGAIN about my hair. I know this for sure because all of the other floozies in the salon doing hair was staring at me while they were talking. Go tend to your clients and get out of my face. People act so bold in their native tongue but could never utter some of the dung with the intention to actually be heard. Needless to say I never went back, on the strength of the ignorant«manager». If you don’t know anything about my type of hair, don’t speak on it. I found a shop better than this one. So I never had to return anyway. Go to Above Ground in Harlem. Tell Josephina I sent you.
