Betty at Frajean Salon has been cutting my hair for 20 years. She is just amazing. I always look great. She does wonderful work and knows exactly how to cut my wavy hair. The scalp treatments are marvelous. I also go there for bangs trims, and she does a great job. It’s a comfortable, friendly atmosphere, and prices are very reasonable.

Betty is the only hair cutter in the world who I trust with my fine, wavy hair. This is because she’s the only person who has listened to me. Ever.
I never feel like my hair gets ratty in a few months because she’s thoughtlessly jabbed her scissors into my mop.
I’ve tried about 10 other places, all of them more expensive. They all either gave me too conservative a cut, maybe a bob… or too edgy a cut for my face and hair type, long in the front, short in the back. I love edgy cuts, but what I need is something classic, something that I don’t have to do much work to. Since going to Betty, my hair looks fine with no dryer, no product — my curls bounce perfectly and my hair looks good after a long day because it’s healthy and well-​shaped. And that’s the idea — that’s exactly what I want in a salon cut. (Otherwise, I’ll just get a trim from my mom rather than risk a salon, you know?)
Everywhere else, people are trying to push products on me at the end of the cut. I explain that my hair is so fine, everything weighs it down. Betty might suggest something, but when I shrug and remind her that my hair is too thin (I go quarterly for a hair cut, not too often) she completely gets it.
Everywhere else, when I say, keep it long, layer it only slightly, with tapered curls, they overlayer it, cut my hair too short, and do a bad job snipping the curls. Betty cuts it to the exact right length, while getting rid of the damage, and the curls she shapes grow out perfectly.
At any rate, to sum up: Betty listens, and she is skilled. The price is right. The atmosphere is nice, maybe not hyped up and glamorous, but well-​lit and attractively designed. Nice family feeling in the air, too.

Excellent customer service, everyone in the salon was very nice, especially the lady at the front desk, however the salon services were terrible. I had two appointments there and they were both less than acceptable. Living in the area, I was looking for a salon to save me a trip to the city. Total fail, I realllly wanted to like this place.

It’s kind of a tragedy of sorts that Frajean’s isn’t considered the premier salon in New York City. I have been to nearly every «go-​to» salon in Brooklyn and some of the more popular ones in Manhattan. I’ve been through it all — nightmare cuts, colors from hell, catastophe weaves that would make me scratch my head and wonder what wrongs did I do to receive such horrible hairstyles. But, Frajean’s is the first salon EVER that ended my search for the perfect stylist. Why do you ask? They have Nicole.
Nicole is the most amazing hair stylist in New York City — done. I live in fear that one day she’ll move from and then I’ll have follow her, which will be problematic for me and maybe a bit creepy for her :) Aside from her unparalleled skills, her award winning customer service, her attention to detail and her patience, she is just a really talented artist. Come with any kind of hair, ask her for any kind of style, be of any ethnicity, you will leave her looking the best you’ve ever looked in your life. I know this sounds a little too good to be true — but it’s true and it’s real. I visited this salon on a whim 4 years ago and I NEVER went anywhere else. She’s that* good.
Frajean’s also has really great waxing services AND facials. My go-​to person is Maya, who is amazing. I trust that she will make my skin feel fantastic and make look my best and she never fails. Waxing isn’t the most pleasant thing in the world, but Maya’s expert and quick techniques make it as painless as it can be. If there was ever really was such a thing as painless waxing, hers would be it!
Some services can be a little pricey — Frajean’s is reasonable but not super cheap. But every penny is well worth it!
I’m not really a review writer. I think only the best places deserve a good write up. But on a whim, I was looking up some of my favorite places on Unilocal and was shocked to see that Frajean’s reviews didn’t really reflect the awesomeness of this place. Technically, it’s better for me because less people booking Maya and Nicole mean more time for me and my appointments :) But to sit on a heap of gold and let no one know about it seems unjust to me. Every friend I know now goes to Frajean’s. And if you visit, you won’t go anywhere else.

I went here for some color and a cut on December 1. Great vibe. Relaxed and inviting and nice feel because it’s in a brownstone and not one of those salons where anyone passing by can see you in the chair.
The stylist/​colorist was a perfectionist– she was not shy about telling me that my hair color was three different shades and it would take time to fix. I appreciated her honesty.
I left the salon with excellent color and a great cut. They never rushed me or pushed me to buy any products. It was a wonderful experience from start to finish, and yes, I’m going back!

I highly recommend Frajean Salon for anyone who needs a great blow out that lasts! I have tried everyone who works their and they all do a fabulous job. They are very sweet and accomodating.

I’m a regular at Frajean and they are the warmest salon and a bang for your buck. Appointments are honored, the stylists are patient and understanding and their clients are just as happy as I am when they walk in and out. The owner is a doll!
Love this gem in Park Slope and would recommend to anyone. Love, love, love my hair every time!

I arrived with a grown-​out mess of a head, and walked out with a fantastic, cool, summer shearing under the very capable hands of Nicole. Very comfortable atmosphere, very reasonably priced ($ 31.00 for my cut — short hair to shorter hair). I was even able to get an evening same day appointment, calling in the late morning. My search for a haircuttery is over. :) Thanks Frajean!

mmm, no thanks. bad color job (brassy red), unpleasant service (minimal engagement even for someone who doesn’t want to be chatty anyway; rough treatment of head & hair). Left with wet hair before getting the haircut I’d planned on just to get out of this place. Definitely not worth almost $ 100 for single process color of short hair.

I’ve been coming to Frajean for a few years, for cut and color. I love that you can tell the people who work there not only like to work there, but like each other! The prices are standard for NY and they make sure you are happy with your color and such before you leave.
I just made an appointment to get my hair done on my birthday — and the owner said they would like to give me a deep conditioning treatment for free! Which is just nice of them! It’s a good place if you need a regular spot in park slope.

Extremely satisfied with level of cleanliness, friendliness, and most importantly, Maya was great at giving me a full wax. Prices are above average but worth it — you get what you pay for!
Grateful to have found this place and looking forward to coming back and getting my hair done here! :)

I used to go to a salon in Manhattan that was twice as expensive, pretentious & pushy about selling «product.» Frajean is in my neighborhood & about two years ago, a friend recommended it.
I like Frajean for the way I look when I leave & also for the easy, comfortable experience of going there. The staff is friendly & genuinely seem to like each other. Unlike other salons I’ve gone to, the staff & clients at Frajean are multicultural — and I like that.
My cuts & color last, which allows me to stretch out visits. My original stylist moved outside the city, but Nicole took over smoothly.

Frajean is clean, the people are friendly, and my wax was quick, as comfortable as ever, and relatively painless (taking into account the regular pain of a wax).
My biggest complaint is that the «$ 35 and up» turned into $ 57 without tip. Granted, she did some «extras,» I still feel like I should have had a better warning that I was going to be charged a whole other waxing service.
I’m still trying to decide if I will go back (certainly not regularly) for that amount of money, given the good service. I’ll probably try a few other salons first.

What did I want? A manicure, simply.
So I got one. And my hands are happier for it –nails glisten at keyboard–
But, I also got so-​so service (not really enthusiastic, but not disrespectful either) and a fussy manicurist. Not to mention that the price given to me at the front desk was different than the price charged by the manicurist – and the difference wasn’t to my advantage. I’m satisfied with their work, but I think I’ll go somewhere else in the future.
