My partner and I recently moved into our first apartment and were told that having a fire escape window gate is the responsibility of the tenants. Since we love our apartment, we decided to swallow the big frog and get the gate. I searched high and low for FDNY approved gates and came across Easy Out Window Gates. The website was streamlined and the reviews were great. I sent Bob an email for a quote based on the measurements that my love took. He responded the next day and quoted $ 448. We set up an appointment for him to do a free in home estimate and the quote remained the same. The estimate happened on Wednesday and the custom gate was installed on Saturday. The installation took about 6 – 8 minutes. Bob and his partner were quick, efficient, and kind. I highly recommend this company. Also, Bob invented and patented the technology and installed his product in my home-​how cool is that?!?

Fast and efficient service in terms of producing the product and installation. Not only was the gate well made but it’s aesthetically pleasing as well. Love my gate and feel so much secure now! The only thing I would suggest to Bob would be to have someone help him out with the phones/​email as it wasn’t always easy to get in touch with him and to get an answer/​response in a timely fashion.

What fast & amazing service! The day we called, Bob came out to measure our window & in 2 days he was back with our custom gate! It is secure & looks great — we really like that it’s a light color so that we don’t feel imprisoned in our house, but can keep bad guys out! ;) The only thing it doesn’t protect against is vampires, so since Halloween is coming we might also hang some garlic in the window. Thanks, Easy-​Out, we will totally recommend you to our peeps! :D

A day or two later the guy came back with an assistant.

Huge thanks to Unilocal for helping me find Bob & his window gates. One of the glitches of the otherwise lovely apartment we moved to last summer was that the fire escape was right outside my child’s window. I wanted to secure the window while keeping the fire escape accessible. The locksmith that I initially hired to change the locks offered to put in a gate that not only would be locked by padlock (uh, what if there’s a real fire & we need to be out pronto?) but it would’ve also blocked a lot of light & cost a pretty penny. I thought, no way could I be the only New Yorker who’s ever dealt with this. I found Bob & his gates online — he answered quickly & thoroughly, came out to see the window that weekend, installed shortly thereafter & we’ve been happy ever since. The gate offers FDNY-​approved security but also opens quickly & easily in a pinch if it needs to, plus it lets in plenty of light. And it was reasonably priced. We had an existing flat window gate installed in a bit of an odd sized window, and wanted to replace it with bars that could accommodate an air conditioner. After calling around, we were a little bit dismayed at the cost of replacing the entire gate, but Bob offered to do it by just cutting around only the lowest part of the parts and just adding the AC box.
This was a bit of a non-​standard job, but it took just 1 phonecall, 1 day to measure and 1 day to install for a far cheaper price than any quote we had received for the entire gate, and the gate looks and functions great. Bob was quick and courteous and did a great job — 5⁄5.

Bob and his assistant came out to Sunset Park removed 2 window bars and installed the Easy Out Window Gates instead. The process was super simple, Bob came out to take measurements and installed gates days later. To my delight they were on time and did exactly what they said. Very good experience!

Well, everyone had nice things to say so it’s unfortunate that I had a completely different experience. Bob quoted me a price over the phone after speaking to me and seeing photos of the window. After he came to measure, his price was more than double what he quoted! I tried to understand why he would do that but he insisted I «misunderstood» him on the phone or that he never quoted that price and that he never saw the photo of the window. (He then looked at his phone and there was the photo. But he quickly brushed it off.) He refused to negotiate and ended with a «If you call me back for this job, I’ll add another $ 200 to the price.» At that point I told him «I will not be calling you back.» Very dodgy and a waste of time.

A truly wonderful experience, beginning to end. I contacted Bob via his easy to use website. Later that evening he emailed me with a quote and he agreed to come take measurements the very next day! When he arrived, he said it would be no extra cost to remove the terrible accordion gate that was already in the window. I was blown away that he didn’t want to charge me for the removal and so gave him the majority of the fee upfront as a deposit. He came back a few days later with a ready to install gate for my fire escape window. He and another guy removed the existing gate, installed the new one and even cleaned up in under an hour. They were even kind enough to cart away the old accordion gate. Best of all, the gate is attractive, easy to open and lets in a ton of light — all for under $ 400!
Communicating in person is a little tricky so my only suggestion to future customers would be to work out as many of the details via email beforehand to make sure you are both on the same page before Bob arrives.

My new apartment had a makeshift gate that was literally screwed into the sill of my fire escape window. I emailed Bob and received a quote same day. He was at my apartment the next day for measurements. He came back 2 days later, removed my old gate and the new one was installed all within 30 minutes. He is prompt and professional. Really really awesome. The guys were nice and courteous and were in and out in about 30 minutes. The gate is beautiful, is easy to open and close, and the price was pretty damn good. The window I needed a gate for is pretty huge, and Bob measured it out last Sunday and it was just installed not 10 minutes ago (friday)! $ 445 for a beautiful, white, custom sized gate.
You can’t beat that. Oh, and they’re in Brooklyn, and came ALL the way up to Washington Heights. Great guys. Highly recommended.

Anyways, I contacted the company, spoke to Robert and then my sister called him to make an appointment to measure and install. Robert was very professional. I was really nervous about installing anything on our fire escape window but these easy out gates are great. they open easily and were not super expensive.
Robert was great too. he measured on Monday, installed on Wed and the whole thing took about 10 min. The pictures on the website don’t do the gate justice, they look much better on the window and are hidden by the blind anyway.
Highly recommend Robert and this gate!

The best window gate in NYC!!! And the price cannot be beat.
For those of you looking to change your ugly window gates, or add window gates for added security, this is the best window gate you can find.
I had recently bought a place. Unfortunately, with only 1 window that had the fire exit right by it, the window had to be secured with a security gate that is FDNY approved. The place had the very ugly accordion gate. I felt like I was in a prison cell, and much of that old gate blocked out the light from the window. I had to replace it but I wanted a gate that did not make me feel like I was in prison. Most of the gates I found online felt very bulky and looked ugly, and most of all the price was over $ 1200 for a double window!
I stumbled upon
and saw the pictures. Though they are not very clear, it looked like the gates opened easily.
To make a long story short… I called Robert… we scheduled an appointment… took measurements… I told him what I wanted… he set my expectations based on the limitations set by FDNY… 1 week later he came to install it. Installation was very quick and it looks very nice.
Though I would prefer a non-​gated window, security is essential.
So for anyone looking to get a really good window exit security gate a very reasonable cost, you will not go wrong with them.
