Charming Nails and Spa

I have lived here for two years now and been very scared to go inside because it looks like a nail salon you might see in the middle of a Caribbean island. It’s very very old and dirty looking both outside and in. However today I went in and got a pedicure and gel manicure and it came out really good and was only $ 35. I am pleasantly surprised. Would I go back? Not sure because it’s that dirty looking but I might be tempted.

Kai did my nails and she did great,. She has her own contemporary techniques which are fast and effective and the salon was very clean. Love my nails.

Charming Nails is becoming increasingly more rude with each visit. They schedule appts and do not honor them when you get to the salon. Then they have a stand-off’ish «whatever» attitude when you bring it to their attention. They have people who barely speak English answer the phone and write illegibly in the appt books. The owner James actually yelled at me about not having a tech ready for the appt because someone wrote the appointment in the wrong spot. The nail tech Judy was growing increasingly more rude with each appointment. I heard she left to start her own salon… GOOD LUCK with that. Sonia, which is one of the better techs was completely dismissive when she overbooked and had a client in my spot just last week. I have tried repeatedly to give them the benefit of the doubt, but at this point, the place is just GHETTO and not worth the little $ 20 spent.

i just went for my 1^st manicure since having my baby 6 weeks ago, i was really looking forward to looking like a human being again! my nails were painted so badly they looked like i had done them myself both with my left hand, my baby sitter was about to leave so i aksed them to take off the colour so at least they were clean, then i saw the real disaster! my nails were a complete mess, i had to file them there and then like an idiot! i then had a massage, the lady was so pissed she almost took off my skin and when i came home my toe nails started peeling! what a complete waste of money, so upset! and no one was offering me back my money! DO NOT USE THIS SALON, THERE ARE SO MANY OTHERS NEARBY

I have been here twice, and each time had a bad experience. The first time, I had to wait 2 hours to have a mani/​pedi, and was quoted a much shorter wait time. The second time, I got a mani/​pedi, and was told that my nails were dry, and they DEFINITELY weren’t dry. The manager refused to give me my money back and was extremely rude. I wouldn’t recommend this place AT ALL. Give it a wide berth and spend your money elsewhere.

I only come for Sonia. The other nail techs are nowhere near as professional. I’m here now and the tech redid 3 nails, one 3 times, because she didn’t paint the sides and piled on 4 layers of polish, one layer over the top coat. She used so much pressure with the top coat that she removed the color. She cut my cuticles, without asking, then left skin she cut hanging on the nail bed. It was so rough that i flinched multiple times. She rushed through my pedicure in 17 minutes after starting with my hands then seeing a free pedicure chair. There was nobody waiting until half way through the pedicure, someone with Judy showed up. I used Judy once, never again. Too rough and nasty attitude. Me and two older ladies discussed Judy’s bad attitude that day and I didn’t use her again after that.
I really need to give up on all of them except Sonia. If I had more time I’d have this woman redo a 4^th nail where she missed the sides. I don’t know her name but used her once before. She’s the one full of compliments about being beautiful and having beautiful nails… I suppose to throw me off that she isn’t good at doing nails. And I need to clean polish off my skin myself before my meeting.

I have been going here for the past year and a half since I moved to the neighborhood. It’s no frills and not the cleanest, but I like one staff member, Sonia. She does a great job and is very friendly. Unfortunately, the owner of the place is shady. I try to be efficient with my time and plan carefully to avoid wasting time and waiting around. I always call to make an appointment and sometime go by in person to make sure we are all on the same page. Today, I walked into my 12pm appointment and saw that the place was busy, people were waiting and that Sonia had just started someone’s manicure. I look at the owner who saw me walk in, but he does not look up me. We have had issues in the past where I come in for an appointment and he always makes me wait or tells me to come back. I live around the corner so it’s not that big of a deal but today, I was fed up. It’s my one day off from work and I planned my whole morning/​afternoon around this. Finally he looks up and I ask what’s the deal? He says, «we’re very busy!» I get that but he was the one who told me to come at 12! So I ask when I should come back and he says 1pm. I look at him and say, «ok, I’ll come back at 1pm but I am not waiting.» To which he replied, «yes, 1 pm for sure.» I walk in 1pm on the dot. Same scenario including the owner avoiding me. I finally speak up and he gives me the same response/​attitude and started raising his voice at me saying how busy he is as if I am an annoying customer. I ask him to stop yelling and explain to him that if he had told me to come back at 5pm I would have been ok with that but telling me to come back in an hour (which gives me no time to do or go anything else) only to be met with the same situation is unprofessional and completely disrespectful of my time. I stayed true to my work and walked out and around the corner to a new place called Pure Nail Spa (43 Clifton Place on the corner of Grand Ave). They are nicer, clean and prices are comparable. Totally worth the few dollars more. After all, time is money and Charming Nails and Spa only care about their own time and money.

Wish I could have given this place five stars but only giving four because of the bruises left on my friends back for the 10 min massage she paid for .
I received the gel manicure and so far I haven’t noticed any chipping Susan was my nail tech and not only was she sweet but did a wonderful job on my nails!
If I lived in this area, I’d be a regular !

One of the best pedicures and services I’ve received. They give you massages and hot stones in the pedicure. I also received a short neck and shoulder massage while my toe nail polish was drying.

Decided to try this place on a whim, because I wanted to try something new. It’s about 2 blocks away from my place. So glad I did, instead of going to the ones closest to me (on my block). My wait time was maybe 5 minutes. I really enjoyed the spa pedicure so much that I texted my friends about it, before the technician polished my toe nails. The manicure was done well and the technician took her time. Then she gave me a quick shoulder massage while my fingernails were drying! Wow I found my new nail spot!

This was my first time coming here, over all the workers were SUPER nice ! So that’s great but they didn’t know how to speak much English :(. So it hard to talk to them. I got tips here. They are okay. Would i come back? Maybe not. But I do recommend this place for just a normal gel manicure. The Massages are great! 10 $ for 10mins

An hour wait when I was told they weren’t busy and no one on line ahead of me. Doesn’t matter how cheap or well done ur nails are. Waiting an entire hour is aggravating as hell. No Bueno.
Update: tried to walk out and was told I’m next no more than 5mins… I’m up to 1:30min wait. At this point I will stay because I’m so invested but will never come back.

I come here all the time because it’s ½ a block from my house. I’m always greeted and treated kindly there. Typically I have received good service, but will admit there have been occasions when I was disappointed.
Most recently I decided to try the crystal wrap before heading out on vacation. It was not as polished of a look as I’d hoped for by the time it was done and within 2 days I had nails coming off while on my vacation!
I was furious since this is not a cheap service. When I got back I explained to Gene, the owner. The older woman who did my nails was also there. Both were extremely apologetic and Gene mentioned he would upgrade the crystal they use. Apparently, it is not a popular request to have that done there.
Gene did my typcal natural nails with gel manicure beautifully and without charge. I appreciated that.
I have seen them have disagreements with customers, but i am always pleasant there and always receive the same in return. I keep going back.

Very average acrylic nails from Sue. Two of my nails are crooked and some of my previous polish isn’t off. I asked her multiple times to remove it and she said okay, but didn’t.
It’s hard to communicate with the technicians. I feel like they don’t understand what I want.

I used to go here because it’s convenient. More than a few times I said I wouldn’t go back because the quality of work is poor & customer service is lacking. After last Sunday, I’m DONE! The owner wasn’t there when I arrived and the women acted like they didn’t want to service me. The woman in charge was a nail tech I had previously had an issue with (see paragraph below). She was in no rush to assign someone to me and even put someone who came in after me ahead of me. Finally she assigned someone to give me a mani/​pedi and the quality of service was bad. This woman barely clipped my cuticles and her filing was shoddy. My polish started chipping the next day.
Maybe they do good work with gel and acrylic, but they are horrible with natural nails. A few months ago, I went for a mani/​pedi and the nail polish on 5 of my fingers and 1 of my toes chipped within 2 days. I went to have it rectified explaining how this shouldn’t have happen and they acted like it was not big deal. And they tried to charge full price for a polish change when they had given me inferior service. The girl who originally gave me the manicure acted like she was mad at me. And the owner was bothered, but I told him I came there often (he’s seen me before) and he should provide better customer service. He gave me ½ off once he got the point.
From that point on I tried to bring my own polish. And I typically go to better salons now and only come here when pushed for time or desperate. However I will not be back. Don’t have time or money to waste. I world rather pay more for a better experience and a mani that looks good & lasts. IF you go call ahead and make an appointment with the Hispanic woman, I think her name is Sonia. She makes sure you get a quality service. Erica’s good too — book with her as well. As far as The others, I say don’t go there.

I’ve read your tips and complaints. All I’m suggesting is you ask for Sonia, get her digits and book appointments with her eliminating the middle man, the wait, the cuts, the discomfort and the pain. No I’m not her personal PR Officer.
Again 4 stars for Sonia who always calls with a gentle reminder of my appointment. Today I was running late and thank goodness she had a space and rescheduled for me *happy sighs*

So torn. I have to get mani pedis for my work. I’ve been here once before and my sister just got a mani pedi and we were so pleased with the results. However, I went in today and re-​painted my own nails not even an hour after having them done at charming nails and spa. I first had to tell the woman to stop grinding the file into my skin, my nails feel rough around the edges and are not filed well. I have a visible cut on my finger and she went over it with the nail polish remover which burned!!! I became nervous and asked her not to cut anything. I’ve had great results before here so what’s going on?
Please, please get back to better quality work!

I’ve been coming here for 4 years. The price and attention to detail cannot be beat. The only thing that’s a slight drawback is there is often a wait. I usually go during workweek hours or right as they open on the weekend to avoid this.

I went to that Spa the other day and it was GREATTT! The workers and the boss there is really polite. The quality of the work they do is awesome. I would go there every two week to do my pedicure and medicare. I suggest y’all to go and check it out.!!

I received a gift certificate from my gf to come here and let me just say this is the worst nail spot I’ve been too. My nails didn’t come out how I wanted and when asked to redo the design the owner told me no! And painted over the design without even taking the polish off the nail first! Not that it mattered because their polishes are incredibly cheap and tacky looking and the filling on my nails started lifting within a few days. Then they had the nerve to try and charge me almost 40! For a fillin and design on two fingers, needless to say I used up the GC and never returned… don’t believe they’re designs suck? take a look at what I asked for and what was given.
