Chang Thai Cuisine

I’m STILL sad that Chang Thai closed.

Just walked by, and there was a big FOR RENT sign outside. :(
I went here every week when in town for work, so I’m sad they closed.

I ate here and 30 minutes later experienced symptoms of food poisoning. I’ve reported this restaurant to 311. After reading their health inspection reports, I’m not surprised I got sick.

There are no good Thai restaurants in Bensonhurst, so I’d have to drive out to Bay Ridge when I’m craving Thai food. This restaurant is conveniently located on 86^th street, so you can go shopping or run errands while you’re in the area.
Their lunch specials last until 4pm, they have a good selection, and each dish is under $ 7. Enough said. If you’re in the mood for an appetizer, I would recommend the shrimp rolls. I drown them in the sweet chili sauce and I usually have to ask for extra sauce. I’ve heard the curry puffs are a favorite here, but I personally haven’t tried them yet.
The Thai iced tea here is legit… it’s not that fake powder crap they mix at those bubble tea places. I drink it so fast that I finish it before any food comes, so I end up ordering another one. Whatever, totally worth the $ 2.50 (or $ 5 in my case).
I will continue coming here, at least until they open someplace similar in Bensonhurst.

Below average pad thai and just an ok Red Curry Duck. If these 2 staples are so poorly done, it’s a skip for me.

The service was fast but I’ve had tai food before and the only thing that was wow was the curry here.
My order of bubble tea spilled a good amount and that was just a waste of funds not to mention it tasted like liquid sugar I had to dilute it with water. The pad tai was also very bland. couldn’t eat it… an threw it away

The jist: friendly service, good food, decent prices, good portions, convenient location with other activities in area.
I had the tofu drunken noodle lunch special for about 9 $ plus tip. They brought out a tall glass of ice water without me having to ask, and their service was very friendly. They were able to put tofu and vegetables in it for me in lieu of meat per my request without so much as a blink — although this was not on the menu. Thank you!
The place was completely empty when I arrived, so I was unsure if a) they were actually open and b) whether or not I should try them out. I am glad that I did — their food was delicious and tasted fresh. I was tempted to lick the plate when I was done; I was able to refrain, for this would probably have been looked down upon.
The décor here is nice and inviting. It is neither cluttered nor cheap looking. A nice (casual) place to sit down and have a meal.
They have more than just Thai food here, so if you’re craving any Asian food this is a good spot to visit!

This is a great place. The inside is nicely decorated and roomy. It doesn’t feel cheap or tacky. The menu is extensive. Lots of appetizers, curries, noodles, stir fry, anything you want. It all tastes very good, too, or at least it did the night I went. The teas are also really good, especially the taro. Prices are right and portions are generous. Gold star for this place!

I ordered from this place for the first time just the other day. I had a really bad cold at the time and needed some food that was spicy enough to melt my face off in order to clear my sinuses.
(I used grubhub btw) was the service prompt? Yes. Was my order correct? Yes. Was the food tasty? Yeah, sure. Was it spicy enough to clear my sinuses and prevent people from mistaking me for some mouth-​breathing neanderthal? HELL NO!
I was under the (possibly racist) impression that Thai food was notoriously spicy. This place did not meet my (again, possibly racist) expectations.

Went here for dinner the other night, I ordered one of the hot and sour soups and the summer rolls. The soup was just allright, they could have done more with the vegetables but they were just thrown in raw.
The summer rolls were decent, nothing amazing. They came with a tasty pesto-​like sauce, but the it didn’t complement the flavor of the rolls very well.
I also got a Taro bubble tea; it was good, but a little too sweet.

I used to like this place — fast delivery and tasty food curry puffs were the best
but they must have changed most of their staff — puffs are different — ok but not the ones I love — the guy answering phone had that Asian non understanding of what you are saying — did address etc 3 times and spelled
and he got the order wrong bought entrée instead of app and only common thing about them was they were both beef

My 2^nd time eating here. I’m believing Chang isn’t lying; there is a Thai chef in the kitchen. I don’t have to leave Bay Ridge to eat decent Thai cuisine.
$ 6.50 lunch special, I love deals. Many entrée selections and choice of egg roll (2 mini ones) or small salad or soup. I dined in and selected the deep-​fried egg roll filled with cabbage and golden crunchy wonton skin. My entrée selection is Pad Thai with pork. Its recipe creates a perfect balance of sweet, sour and savory. Thai food is ALL about balancing those flavor notes. Decent portion size, noodles are perfectly boiled, bits of tofu, chopped peanuts, the usual suspects of pad thai.

There’s not a lot of great options for Thai restaurants in NY. Chang Thai comes close to being good but it’s not the best.
I love Chang Thai though, it’s my go-​to Thai place whenever the craving hits. I always got their reliable pad thai. And their pineapple fried rice is pretty good, too. It’s not the best-​tasting, yes, but it certainly hits the spot.
I always have it delivered and they always get to my apartment within 10 – 15 minutes. Super convenient especially since I always order when I’m about to pass out from hunger.
Great service though, whether at the restaurant or delivery. This is also the main reason why I keep coming back.
So yeah, it’s not the best but it’s the best in Bay Ridge.

Chang Thai is actually the best Thai in Bay Ridge. And that’s really, really disappointing /​sad.
Let’s start off with the good:
— Their tom kha is solid, and hits the spot. Definitely not as good as Song’s, but it’s infinitely better than the swill they serve at MyThai.
— Their panang curry is actually pretty good, and they throw in pineapple chunks which is an interesting twist.
— Their food is relatively affordable. Curries are $ 9, soup is $ 4.
— The delivery is fast and friendly.
— Their website makes online ordering for pick-​up or delivery super easy.
The not so good:
— The mussamum curry is tooth-​rottingly sweet. It literally tastes like they dumped a few sugar packets into the broth. Not good.
— When you ask for spicy, even if you just wanted relatively spicy, you have to ask for extra super spicy, because they seem to have no understanding of heat levels. If you just ask for spicy, you’ll get something somewhere between mild and medium.
— The container of white rice that came with the curry was half full. Really, Chang? You’re that cheap that you can’t even give me a full carton of rice? After the food was delivered, I had to go down the block to Mr. Tang to pick up extra white rice.
Overall it gets a 3. They’ll get my business again, I just won’t order the mussamum, and I’ll be sure to make sure they give me a full container of white rice.
Bay Ridge, PLEASE open up a good Thai restaurant soon, I’m dying here!

Not good.
Bay Ridge is in dire need of a solid Thai restaurant. MyThai isn’t bad, but it’s nothing special and unusually pricey for what they provide.
This place on the other hand hovers around bad. It’s a typical Chinese restaurant impersonating as a Thai restaurant, which is unfortunate since it’s clear they omit some of the more expensive ingredients that make Thai food distinctive (particularly the coconut milk).
Spicy doesn’t mean much to them either. And I’m the guy who specifies when he orders ‘no, not white guy spicy — SPICY spicy’. Grand Sichuan knows what I mean, these guys don’t.
Pad Thai? Try rice noodles with ketchup and a scrambled egg. You get better out of a box at home with some Annie Chun from the supermarket (and I’m not lobbying for that here either).
Greasy, poorly flavored food at very reasonable prices. Take out only, I wouldn’t want to sit here. I’d avoid unless cost is your main concern.

I was quite impressed with this place. Thai food is something I don’t cook so when I go out to eat I will want to entice my taste buds!
Passed this place just to get a take-​out menu I decided to try it. Service was great and waitress was ninja fast to filling my glass of water on a hot afternoon. The table was deorated with a place mat and small statues. The mats were cleaned with a spray wash after you finished your meal. Bubble tea was offered buy 1 get 1 half off. No tea was offered for free like in a chinese restaurant.
I love Thai Pad, it’s my favorite dish to order. I found this dish made with a sweeter flavor and the chicken to be slightly stiff and no rice on the side. But I did enjoy my meal!

If you like hot n spicy food I totally reccomend the Jungle Curry!!! It was kick-​ass hot and delicious! The Lychee drink is a great beverage to balance it.

far from a bad place after spending a ton of money on someone not me… i needed some gastric therapy and my parents mentioned a fairly new thai restaurant nearby so i figured what the hell… burn away some of the buyers remorse…(just kidding i thoroughly enjoyed buying the gift).
Anywho’s to the place itself – clean very new looking and the menus were ornate and well designed. quite frankly this place is a few steps above a take out place. – not quite sure how to explain it (just go in and check it out)
For me, two dishes will determine the quality of a thai restaurant; it’s pad thai and it’s curry.
The bubble tea was good except for the bubbles which were undercooked by a longshot – but they were happy to take it off the bill.
The summer rolls were fresh and the dipping sauce was a nice change from the usual JUST fish sauce.
The fried egg rolls had an interesting sweet sauce drizzled over it which i have to say was actually surprisingly good. the roll itself had a beautiful crunch to them. I can see myself getting addicted to them if i want a day of gluttony.
The Pad thai was a touch sweeter than I’d like but I have to say that overall it was good. There’s are differences in the pad thai here than the other ones I’ve tried elsewhere.
The Prig Khing (or something along those lines) I got extra spicey, and it kind of seemed as though they just put thai chili paste on it but didn’t really let it cook down or something? It wasn’t bad but i feel like this could have been made better.
Lunch special #6 I forget what this was all together, but it was really good.
For desert we had the sweet sticky rice with thai pudding, it was sweet, but the rice was a bit hard – not sure if that was how it was supposed to be…
The staff was certainly nice, and the food wasn’t terrible. Though I would definitely come back here, I wouldn’t expect mind blowing food.

There is a lack of Thai food in Bay Ridge and being Thai and unable to cook my people’s cuisine I need good restaurants.
My Hubs and I walked passed Chang after we got some starbucks. Since it was my birthday week — yes one whole week, my hubs vetoed a month, I had a hankering for some Thai food.
The place was empty, the décor was cute and I was unsure if this was a legit thai place. So we sat, mulled over he menu and we ended up ordering the Fresh Thai Spring Rolls — I thought it was another thai dish with brown dipping sauce, but I was wrong — Its like a viet summer roll but instead of shrimp its tofu and has a cilantro dipping sauce. — could have done without.
Then for entrees– I ordered green chicken curry — spicy. Hubs got the Hua Hin in love. So I was thinking my curry was not going to be spicy and I was prepared for that. When it came out and I took a bite it was pretty spicy. I’m use to a thicker consistency but I was okay with it. My Hubs Hua Hin dish looked good. Huge shrimp there had to be a lot because I got some shrimp in my doggy bag and lots of nice veggies.
Desert — We ordered mango sticky rice to go
All in all I was happy. I feel the food is americanized, but thats expected and I would stop by again if I needed some Thai food.
P. S. The staff is Thai, found out when they were speaking leisurely to each other.
