Chicken fajitas were amaze and relatively inexpensive. $ 5 tecate was not so amaze. All of the people working here were lovely and I will return.

My son has lived in Clinton Hills for fifteen years and for all that time we have eaten at Castro’s. When Myrtle Ave wasn’t safe Castro’s was an island of sanity. High quality inexpensive authentic Mexican food. Nothing has changed except for the neighborhood. We just had lunch again and the pulled pork lunch special, the crisp tacos and the vegi cimitas were all delicious. Once the construction on Myrtle is completed the transition will be remarkable. Hopefully the old guard restaurants won’t be displaced by the gentrification.

This place has been consistently good for the ten years I have been living in the area. The Tortas are fantastic and all of the food is reliable and tasty. I do wish the food was a little spicier but with hot sauce that’s a quick fix.

Horrible experience! Friends and I went to Castro’s for lunch and will NEVER return. When our food arrived, we noticed that they managed to get at least one item from each and every order incorrect, including drinks! The food wasn’t enjoyable. The burrito had no sort of flavor, the drinks sucked, and although I love spicy foods, the level of spiciness in my enchiladas was truly unbearable. They refused to change my order, even after they had already messed up every other order, like I mentioned. I asked if I could purchase additional enchiladas, which I would pay for, and was told that they couldn’t sell me enchiladas, I would have to purchase an additional lunch plate instead. After we had all agreed that we would never visit this place again, things got worse. My daughter asked to use the restroom, and the toilet in the women’s restroom literally had NO toilet seat. I told the waitress and she said in a snobbish voice, «no, it doesn’t have a toilet seat, it’s been that way.» I took my daughter to the men’s room and it was so incredibly disgusting, that we left. I would never recommend this place and would never go back. One star because my daughter like her pancakes.

Great neighborhood spot, good prices as well. Only downside is that the food takes quite a while to get to you.

I cannot say enough how much I love Castro’s. Don’t like the exterior fool you — for about a year, I never went in because I thought it was a fast-food place. Lo and behold, they have a full bar, and the most authentic Mexican food I’ve had in NYC. I’m from a place where Mexican food is everywhere, so when I moved to NYC, I was sad to see how hard it was to find GOOD Mexican. Look no further than Castro’s!

If you have a typical New Yorker idea of burritos and tacos and don’t know any better, you may find this place passable. But if you’ve ever tried the real stuff in San Francisco or elsewhere in the West, you’ll find these chewy, formless plops of whatever-that-is that’s covering burritos and soft tacos, served on a platter to be consumed with fork and knife(ouch), with totally mediocre fillings, with no cripsy fried carne asada or al pastor inside, just disgusting at worst and utterly forgettable at best.

How can you fuck up a tostada? They came so soggy and mounted on top of each other. If only they were tasty but they weren’t… never ordering from here again.

Service was excellent, but the food was disgusting. Based on the good reviews, i decided to order the enchiladas with rice and beans + guac and chips. I was expected a fluffy corn tortilla filled with cheese and meats. Instead I got bits of mechanically processed meat and tasteless cheese. The rice and beans were probably standard, as there really is nothing you can modify about them, but even the chips were this hardened browned burnt crisp with onions and beans mixed into the guacamole. Wait, didn’t I order just guacamole? I literally have a stomach ache and my tongue has some sort of itchiness to it now. I’m not being dramatic, this is what processed Mexican food does to me. Paid $ 16.50 and left a tip. Guess this is the typical restaurant fair I can expect for paying 1k/mo to live in Clinton Hill.

So much better than the three and half stars. The enchiladas and spicy shrimp soup were perfectly spicy and big portioned properly done considering the price. The margaritas are so fresh and not too frozen. Highly recommend this place!

Loved the food here! Almost went to Dunkin’ Donuts before noticing this restaurant next door. So glad I changed my mind because the chicken enchilada and acai smoothie was bangin’! The best part besides the food was the customer service. We had two waitresses but they were both really sweet. I’ll be back to try everything else on the menu.

Best Burritos in New York– Hands Down. I’ve been coming here for like 14 years now and it’s a real testiment to the quality of the food and the quality of the vibes to see how much the business has expanded with little and big renovations over time. This place is an institution. I don’t even live in the neighborhood anymore, but when I am visiting friends i have been known to order delivery to their houses and bring home extra burritos for my freezer. I love love love the Santa Fe Burrito and the Steak Burrito. Also DELICIOUS chips and salsa.

I’m loyal to the veggie burrito — way better than the meat ones. The guac is bland but I stick with the burrito and am happy!

This place keeps me alive… I would recommend the burrito, the spicy chicken tacos, and their breakfast offerings, specifically the cheese omelet. Delivery is usually extremely quick, FYI.

Very good lunch! Bought 2 tacos the other day and they were full of flavor, no complaints. The place can be very busy however, so be patient! Other than that, I recommend.

The burritos are OK, I have had better. I notice when I have called for delivery how much better the food is. The staff can be very rude or forgetful. So be sure to check your order.

Castro’s has been my main Mexican delivery joint for sometime. Just want to spread the word about how good their food is. I’ve had a good amount of the menu and it is always consistent. Eat here!

The Best in Brooklyn. Early morning or late night doesn’t matter the food is great. I’ve been going here and ordering delivery for years and it has always been a good experience. Tip If you got a hangover get a dirty chai and your favorite burrito!!!

Really really good chile relleno! I asked for it ala carte, because I didn’t want it in a burrito or sandwich. They were very accommodating and the food was so tasty. Top notch, and a nice find!

I love this place, great burritos ESPECIALLY the steak burrito oh my god. The quality is great, the steak is ACTUALLY steak so that right there is just mind boggling. Fresh ingredients and the atmosphere in the back eating room is very nice. Very clean(have not used the bathroom so no opinion on it yet). Only down sides are the cheese enchaladas, which has a strange spongey like cheese block inside(which may just be the kind of cheese normally used so this didnt lose a star) which I didnt like. What I seriously did not like was how long the service takes, I dont know what the waitresses are doing but when Im the only customer there it still takes nearly 15 minutes to hail down for some assistance. They have been friendly so no issue there, just takes forever to get their attention since they hardly come into the back area, has happened all 4 times Ive been here. Otherwise just be sure to understanf you pay at the cashier even when youre dining in, also if you want desert TRYTHETARAMISU, I admit I didnt expect much but DANG was it good!!!

We eat here a lot. Not going to lie, the service isn’t outstanding but it’s good value and the quesadillas are awesome. We also like the mole enchiladas, chorizo tacos and the tamales. Only thing we don’t like is the guacamole… Can’t put my finger on why, but it tastes of nothing. Like puréed avocado with no onion or spice. Still, for the price it’s great and when we don’t want the bad service we order for pickup.

It was a nice place. The staff was friendly, but the food didn’t have much seasoning and that’s what made me change my mind about coming back.

They forgot about us completely. Waited 40 minutes after they took our order. No apologies, nothing. Don’t go in there if your not Hispanic. They will ignore you. My family has been there a dozen times. I don’t know if the waitress didn’t understand a word of our order.

I am so happy I found this spot. Been here twice, late nights an hour before closing to top it off, expecting great food and service regardless — and got both. Not to mention, I knew the food was good because I used to order delivery when I lived in the area in 2010. Anyway, the server this last time was wonderful, the food was fresh and delicious, the line cooks were professional, and the manager was connected to his business and employees — qualities that are not so easy to find these days. Prices were great too. My bf and I had two Michelada’s(unique but good), split an order of elotes, tostadas and a carne asada burrito. Everything was cooked perfectly with just the right spices and ingredients. We came looking for a good time, and walked out happier than we expected. Can’t wait to be back!

Looking for good Mexican food in Brooklyn? Look no further. Castro’s came to me highly recommended by some coworkers and having tried it, it is a great lunch spot, and they actually whip up a good burrito.(If you’re over on the Jersey side like I am, you will appreciate how hard this is to come by.) In addition to all the Mexican stuff you would expect they also offer a large number of fruit smoothies and health drinks. I had an acai-mango smoothie which was delicious. For the main course I had a fully loaded burrito. Beans, rice, lettuce, beef, pico all stuffed into a well rolled flour tortilla. I was impressed by its ability to actually stay together when you pick it up. I see my self coming here again and again.

Came here with my sister on snowy day. We both got Cuba Libres — hoping it would warm us up. Either we were too cold, or it just didn’t have enough Libre to do the job. :P Seriously — this place makes a decent Chileaquiles for what I was expecting to get in Brooklyn! I would just get it with chicken instead of beef. The Soupa Azteca was great! Might be a bit partial to this dish as it was snow storming outside! But that hot bowl of massive tomato and spice soup was just what we needed! The Enchiladas were great! We were just so full already that we couldn’t even finish it! The service was good. The atmosphere of the place was cozy and diner-esque. The price was great for what we got!
