Please be advised, I trained here from 2009 – 2011, but I just had yet another awesome BJJ class at a different school and felt compelled to comeback here and write a review: THIS IS A McDOJO, STAY AWAY. I’ve trained at various BJJ and Muay Thai schools since being disappointed at this one. People seem to love the community feeling this school offers. It’s very family oriented and offers a sense of traditionalism that other schools don’t offer. Here you get to stay in formation (military style) while the instructor makes you yell out The Karate Creed of the poster on the wall (the same poster that comes up on goole image when you type ‘Karate Creed’) after every class and then he breaks down his philosophy on life. I remember standing in formation listening to professor Glick talking about stress and dealing with life. At the time I was working full time and going to college full time, while trying to better myself with BJJ and this professor was trying to offer some self help guru type advice that would only work for someone who is stressed out becauses their favorite show got cancelled. Philosophy was my major and I definitely wasn’t paying $ 200 a month to learn it there. As far as BJJ goes, there is a reason this school doesn’t encourage their students to compete. Even when you look up the instructors you’ll notice it will never mention the names of any tournaments they competed in… their JJ is fundamentally sound but will not help you defeat someone who trained just as long somewhere else. And honestly, I think this school would be proud of that, because that’s not what they focus on. Lastly, if you try to get out of your contract at this school… you’ll only try. It will never happen. They outsource their billing to someone else and then use that as an excuse to tell you that they can’t do anything for you, you’d have to contact the billing company. When you do, you realize their call centers are in another country and the rep is only trained in explaining to you why you can’t get out of your contract. In terms of injuries, you’d essentially have to send them an x-​ray to get out. If you move, but are still in NYC, North Jersey or Long Island they will laugh and hang up. NYC has some of the best BJJ and Muay Thai schools in the world and then there is Brooklyn Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.

I have been going to Brooklyn BJJ for over 5 years now. What makes this school different is not the stripes you earn on your belt, but the friends you make while earning them. For all the years that I was training here I never got hurt in class, and that’s because I trust my training partners and the instructors that teach us all the high level Jie jitsu techniques. This will always be my home school because of the friendships thats I made through all the hard work and sweat we left on the mat togather.

I have been practicing here for close to 5 years and I haven’t really experienced any issues. If you want to take martial arts seriously, this school offers a curriculum where you can learn things to excel to the advance program. They tailor their teaching style to the student. The learning curve is different for everyone. There’s fundamentals to learn and this school can break down each move in order to stem to the next. Try the introductory program. If you don’t like it, you’re not obligated to sign the contract. Like any institution, there’s tuition or membership fee. Quirk — they have seminars where MMA fighters visit the school and teach the students.

I took their $ 20 one time class as a lark, just to try it.
The workout is very thorough and very addictive. In just about a month since I signed up, I see positive changes in both my body and my technique.
The instructors are positive and encouraging, while reinforcing the skills needed to reach the next belt.
My only critique is that it is an investment and they are not upfront about the financial investment until you have taken the classes.
But at the end of the day, I am happy that I signed up and I find myself looking forward to the next class.

It is a great dojo for all feom age 8yrs old and up call and schedule a intro today if you want to feel good mentally emotionally and physically I garauntee satisfaction ;) me and my daughter have been active members since april and we are very very happy ;)))))))

Ive been a member of bbjj since November of 2009. first and foremost i have to thank the professor and the staff for making me feel so welcomed and comfortable. i was extremely nervous and almost didn’t do it. its a great atmosphere and the people are there to help and not try to kill you or rip your head off like another school i briefly attended. i travel all the way from the Bronx five days a week just to come to class. its like my second home. the other place i was at could care less if i was understanding how to do a move. it was like if you don’t understand then too bad, just go kick rocks. At bbjj the people go out of their way to help you get it. Ive met so many good people that I consider friends on and off the mat. If you have a problem outside the school the staff is there to lend a hand or help you out in anyway they can. I’m not much of a talker but i will give a five our speech for the sake of this school. I don’t know where i would be without bbjj. :)

I was an active member back in 2001 – 2002.
This club is now a complete McDojo (they are trying to make profit off you first). Contracts this, fee that.
They are anti-​cross training (will kick you out of school if you train at
another school (even one lesson)).
If you are serious about grappling, please avoid this place.

Yep, I went to the Brooklyn Brazilain Jiu Jitsu place located at the 7303 13 Ave with my brother in law (Who is a Purple Belt in BJJ, but in an out of state location) just to check it out, because I was truly interested in the martial art. We walked into the place and there was a handful of people training who could not be bothered with us. There was a guy at the front/​register area but he was busy with something that eluded me and my brother in law. I finally interupted his star watching and asked him for info… I.E. prices, training info, schedules, paper work… He told me to wait and that an instructor would speak to me.
We waited for like 20 minutes standing in front of the star watcher until one of the guys training stopped and approached us. He definatly was not the main instructor. He comes up to us and I introduce myself as well as my brother in law. I informed him of my intentions of possibly joining the school, but that I wanted to come to a class and watch the training in action so that I could determine if this dojo would be the place for me due to the fact that I have had past bad experiences in different training centers with overcrowding, uncaring staff/​instructors, imaturity etc.
He quickly told me that I needed to schedule myself for demostration with an instructor and that that would be better than comming and watching a class. Of course this demonstration could not be done now and is cost $ 20.00. The money I did not care about, because I am a firm believer of «you get what you pay for», but it seemed too shady. I then asked him for the following details such as prices, training info, schedules, and paper work, but he blew me off and told me that I needed to schedule a demo and all my questions would be answered at that time.
I then became annoyed that none of my questions were being answered at this time and I looked at my brother in law for help seeing that he has a BJJ history as well as being a participant in a well known MMA/​BBJ training center for many years. He then introduced himself to this instructor and informed him of his history and his knowledge in order to «break the ice». The instructor then gave my brother in law this look like he could care less. In fact he told my bother in law to come to the demo and to bring his $ 20.00 as well.
Then pulls out a calander book from out of the front desk and tells me what he has avalible. I give him a random date and I finally ask him to please give me something in regards to paperwork. He then blesses me with a Xexoxed copy of a monthly calender with their schedule for that particular month. We then take our leave, but as we leave the instructor chases outside and tells us «Oh I forgot to tell you that when you come to the demo bring a credit card, debit card, or a check!» I looked at him like he had ten heads and we went to my car.
I took the calender and ripped up. My brother in law told me that he completly agreed with me and to say the very least I never returned to that place. Also just to put this point out there out there our interaction with the instructor was appoximately 5 minutes. It appeared that he could not rush us out the door fast enough.
My assesment of this place is that it is a money making scheme. They impress you with the big MMA names associated with this place and when they get you they squeeze you for the cash. Why be so secret about prices, training info, schedules, and paper work if you don’t have anything to hide. I can only conclude that this joker instructor was hiding their high prices, contracts, and their uncaring staff. A person should be able to walk into a Dojo/​MMA center and ask the following questions such as how much does this cost, what type of training is this, what is your schedule like and get a direct answer!

I began the program at Brooklyn Vindya Yoga over a year ago when it first started and it’s one of the best practices I’ve incorporated into my life. I have trained in yoga before and used to be a frequent gym-​goer but I have since found BVY and could not be happier with the school, the community, and the practice. Since joining the program I’ve seen visible physical results… I’ve become obviously toned in just about every muscle group and I am better able to deal with stress on a daily basis because of the control I’ve gained over my own body and its workings.
If you’re looking for a great form of exercise both physically and mentally, instructors that genuinely care about your well-​being and students and share in the same practice, try BVY for yourself and make your own opinion on the program. Master Debs & Master Anselmo are phenomenal individuals and two of the best yoga instructors I have come across.
Also, as part of their unique VIP program, students are able to recommend individuals friends and family for a free 2-​week trail membership. The school has such great students throughout the neighborhood and beyond that you’re bound to already know someone who participates! There’s no better way to see the type of school we are than to come in and talk to us students about our experience.

If you’re ready, capable and willing to take self defense and self improvement seriously, this is the place for you. I’ve been here for about two years and I can easily say it’s been one of the best influences on my work ethic and physical fitness.
This place stresses constant improvement with a goal of being a better leader and healthier person, above professional competition. The staff means it when they say they want to help you through any difficulty including financial ones that may arrise when you’re they’re student.
The only real warning is that the program is not cheap as has been mentioned, but frankly the positive impact on your life will most certainly outweigh the price. That being said they have an excellent intro program which I’ve gotten several friends to partake in where you’d get two free weeks of class with a free uniform, and you can just walk away from the school afterwards, as some of my friends who couldn’t afford it at the time did do.
Hopefully without sounding preachy, you should ask yourself if you want to spend your money on going out a few extra times a month, or on improving yourself. I’ve seen fellow students quit smoking, lose weight, gain stamina, and cofidence. The motivation and enthusiam that the staff fosters for all the students is what makes this place special to make

They make you sign a 6 month contract, and after 2 months they tell you that «your child is wonderful and talented» and force you to sign another TWO YEAR contract! Otherwise they keep teaching your child the same «moves» that learned in the first 3 weeks of class. DO NOT GO THERE

I just don’t understand. I have tried to email this place a bunch of time asking for price information. They refuse to give it, they must think it’s a state secret. They just keep asking me to come in for a $ 19.99 trial class, but won;t tell me what the actual cost of the program is.
Does anyone know what they really charge? Is this a bait and switch or high stress sales pitch?
