We had a refreshingly earnest experience at Abode – not always to be expected in the heart of ironic W’burg.
We came in looking for a larger piece of furniture — which Abode, sadly, does not sell — but not only did the person manning the store chat us up anyway, he also gave us a map of the area with the furniture stores he DID recommend. One of his suggestions, A&G Merch, was a bulls-​eye — we ordered exactly what we needed that day.
That kind of neighborly spirit feels like it’s in short supply sometimes in this ‘hood, where retailers come and go almost as quickly as the fashion trends, Smorgasburg vendors and buzz bands du jour. It made Abode memorable to us in a way that half the midcentury-​modern-​industrial-​estate-​sale-​detritus-​encrusted vintage stores we saw that day were not. Thanks, Abode!

A+ for customer service.
The owners were around on a Friday evening and kindly toured us around the store helping us get a last minute holiday gift.
They were patient, listened to our price range, and recommended some stellar items like an innovative teapot and some quirky art.
We didn’t end up getting anything as they didn’t fit the personality of the gift recipient — but they were kind and friendly on the way out, nonetheless.
Long live small business.

I was just told to FUCK OFF!!! out of this shop. My colleague took a picture of a lamp and was told to not do that and she apologised. that should not be a reason for anyone to be asked to FUCK OFF and be told that you have a bad attitude. such a shame for a shop in Williamsburgs Grand Street that has all the potential to get a lot of traffic but unfriendliness doesnt sell. I am going to tell every person I know in NYC not to go here. still shocked.

I like this little store, it is exactly the kind of store I want in my neighborhood. Great gift items as well as for your own home. The atmosphere is casual and warm with product that is modern and chic. The two gentlemen that own the store are extremely helpful and friendly and went out of their way to help me get enough of the right glasses for my holiday dinner party. The store is on the smaller side so there is not a lot of room for a large assortment, but what they do have is well edited and and tasteful. Definitely a go to place for me

A cute little shop on Grand St wburg with a great selection of curious gifts for that last minute birthday. I wasn’t impressed by the prices, but the staff was very friendly, and the selection was interesting and abundant.
I ended up getting my friend whiskey stones. You store them in the freezer, and then just plop them in your drink. Keeps your whiskey chilled without watering down the flavor. Nice!
I’d definitely go back.

Although they don’t have the exact same stuff as all those other quirky home modern furnishing and gadgets shops that are everywhere these days, I thought the stuff they had was more pretentious, pricier, and worse. As someone else mentioned, the dude working there couldn’t be bothered to do much but scowl.

Abode has adorable place mats, change jars (aka bowls) and some cute kitchen utensils, but nothing is truly innovative here. It’s definitely a fun place to check out if you are looking to buy someone a gift, or even just to look around.
I found a cool, metal change bowl here. Next time I stop by, I’ll see how much it costs!

Browsing is apparently not encouraged. I went in a couple days ago with some friends and the gentleman behind the counter did nothing but scowl and ask us in and annoyed tone if we needed something in particular. Perhaps if he’d like this store to stick around, he should change his attitude.

I stopped in here during a wander up to Bedford and was pleasantly surprised. The product is high quality and of exceptional design, but the guy at the desk is laid back and unpretentious. He even gave me a free neighborhood guide for future shopping adventures. If you’re looking for fantastic design at prices that are WAY better than Design Within Reach, go to Abode New York.

This store is a great new edition to the hood. They have furniture and housewares that are clean design with a neo-​modernist flare. A combination of handmade one-​of-​a-​kind items and well designed mass produced items which include many perfect gift items. I’d give them 5 stars but they in their awkward teen stage where they work out their exact product mix.
The owners, who often work in the shop are an Urban Planning Professor and Architect, who have lived in the neighborhood for many years so you can learn something while browsing some cool stuff.

I loved the felt rectangle pillows with river rocks sewn onto the surface. Other than that, the furniture had the minimal simplicity design that seems so dated today. Good location for folks looking to furnish their new condos.
