119 Smith Street Spa

I passed by this place for six years and never went in, but today I needed a wax at the last minute. I walked in with no appointment and they saw me right away. Margot was careful and kind, and the soft wax she uses was much less painful for me than hard wax. The best part is, the price was at least $ 15 less than what I pay in Manhattan or even other places in Brooklyn. I will definitely be back.

Margot and 119 Smith Street Spa are wonderful. The spa is calm and quiet and relaxing. I have been going here for years for facials, and also did some other treatments before my wedding. My skin always looks good when I leave, and radiant in the days and weeks after. Margot is gentle but can go deeper on the extractions if you prefer. She never pushes products but can make recommendations if you’d like. This spa is a gem!

Margot is the absolute best! I have been going to Smith St for everything (waxing, eyebrows, facials) the past few years and I have never had a bad experience there.

This place is a gem! Reasonably priced and small, it’s nice without being too fancy. The women who work here are very sweet and really care that you’re satisfied with the results.
For a bikini wax, it can’t be beat! I recommended it to my roommate and she had a great experience too. The woman who did my wax was attentive and funny, and the wax was virtually painless. Note: they use the strips, not hard wax. I was unsure about that at first, but I really do think it’s less painful. Or maybe my waxer was just that good!
I’ve also gotten a facial here and found the extractions to be a little more painful than I would have liked, so I wouldn’t necessarily go back for a facial. But! I had a great glow afterwards and they did a great job cleaning up the clogged pores on my nose and chin. Note: They use dermotologica products. The facial room was also surprisingly relaxing, given that there’s all kinds of construction on Smith street this summer.

Soothing ambiance. Clean workspace. Friendly and understanding staff.
These are the three things which have kept me coming back for 2 years. I discovered this little gem while walking around the neighborhood and I’m glad I took a chance.
Depending on what you’re coming in for, you can find yourself in some pretty vulnerable positions but Margot puts you completely at ease with her easy going personality and she takes the time to answer ALL your questions, which I love.
I believe they take walk-​ins but just to ensure your spot (esp. during summer months) call first.

Some time ago, I received a $ 50 gift certificate to this salon for my birthday that expired before I could use it. When I came by and asked what I could do, I was told that in order to use it at all I would have to pay $ 25, no matter what. Even when I offered to get services worth more than the face value of the certificate, $ 75-​worth (so they would get their extra $ 25 but I would get $ 75-​worth of services for the $ 75 paid), they insisted I would still have to pay a fee of $ 25 to use the certificate.
That is terribly greedy, in my book. It cost them nothing to supply the gift certificate after they took my friend’s $ 50. I offered to give them more money than they had counted on getting, and they still refused in a very obstinate way — a very un-​neighborly, unpleasant and greedy way to conduct business.
I walked out, disgusted with their behavior. I will never spend a dime there and have told all my friends not to, either. If that’s their attitude, I can’t imagine their salon services would be any better.

Excellent bikini wax! I recently relocated from Manhattan and have been searching for my go-​to waxing salon. I’m so pleased that I found this place in the neighborhood. The esthetician catered to my specific waxing request and was reasonably priced. She was extremely thorough, knowledgeable and professional.

I cannot speak to any of the other services that they provide, but I have received a couple of massages at this spa and each time was very pleasant. The spa itself is rather small, but it is very clean and has a very relaxing feel to it. I had a different masseuse each time (I am forgetting the names of both at the moment), but both were very responsive to any requests that I had and both did a nice job. I will definitely be returning here in the future!

Living in the neighborhood for a long time but had yet to find a good place for a bikini wax. Decided to give this place a try and am glad I did. Clean, quick and as pain free as these things can be, I will definitely be visiting again.

Smith Street Spa is an excellent option for waxing here in Cobble Hill, and, as one Unilocalster noted, a nice change from the grubby nail salon vibe. Margot is lovely person and I’ve always had a good experience here.

I have perfect eyebrows. I have been going to Margot for the past seven years. Yes, seven. I first met her at a spa here in Manhattan. When the spa closed, I followed her to 119 Smith Street Spa. My eyebrows are perfect, to the point where strangers have commented on them. It didn’t happen overnight, but Margot could see that I had potential, looking beyond years of excessive waxing at my neighborhood nail salon. Every month she manicures my brows to form the perfect shape and create the illusion of more hair in places that fell victim to waxing. This may sound excessive, but the woman is an artist. It’s a trek for me to make it out to Brooklyn, but it is seriously worth the 15 minute subway ride. I highly recommend Margot for all of your facial beauty needs!
I’ve seen brow shaping specialists in Manhattan for $ 65. Smith Spa is $ 25 for brow tweezing!
I’ve also had waxing and facials at 119 which are also worthy of five stars.

First time I received a service there, and it will be the last time as the service was nothing special for the price. I usually get waxes at a different, more affordable spa that’s far from where I live, so as I was in a rush, I had to make an appointment with this spa as it is closer to me. The receptionist is not very friendly and as I was waiting for a few minutes for my service she rudely turned down two people dropping in to see if they can be «squeezed in» She could be a little more pleasant especially if she wants their future service (or try to squeeze them in without an appointment, as she just said «nope, nothing today»)
Okay so back to the wax, the esthetician was nice, but missed some spots. For the price I paid, I expect all the hair to be removed as I got a brazilian, however she missed hairs on the bikini line, as I had to pluck them when I got home. I wish she was more thorough. And for some reason I was more red then I usually am after a wax. It took about two days for my skin to recover. Which is surprising to me as I’ve gotten waxes every three weeks for the past 10 years and never been this red! I was so excited to have a new place that’s closer to me to get my waxings, however 119 Smith Street Spa is NOT the place :(

I had a facial here which involved some kind of cream described as a «gentle exfoliant». My top lip is burned so badly that it hurts to eat or smile.
I called the salon to ask for advice and they basically told me that I must have done something to it myself (I didn’t) and that it couldn’t possibly have been caused by them. They said it was a cold sore (it definitely isn’t)
and they had nothing helpful to say. I called them simply to ask for their advice as to how to heal this problem and I got a horrible response.

I get terrific bikini waxes here. The staff is always pleasant and professional, scheduling appointments is easy and the place is clean and tidy. Anna and Margot do a good job — they really listen to what you want and make sure you’re pleased. Appointments run on time and the place is calm and orderly.

Go to Anya (Anna) – she’s a total professional. Love the calm vibe of the place. Have only gotten waxing here, so can’t comment on facials or anything else, but have continued to back since my first trip.

I had a facial last week and mentioned that I have very sensitive skin. The following day, my top lip was so badly burned that it hurt to smile or to eat.
One of the products used was described as a «gentle acid exfoliant» but it was much too strong for my skin. I called to ask their advice as to what to do next as it was so painful and was met with a very defensive response. Margo said that I must have done something else to my skin — I hadn’t — and then said that she thought it was a cold sore — it isn’t. When I told her that it definitely happened because of the facial (nothing else had been done to my skin that day) she just said that she didn’t «have time for this».
So, I paid $ 90 and I am left with a burnt and swollen upper lip. Not quite the outcome I would expect and I definitely won’t be going back.

Had a great 60 min facial with Eliza. really knowledgable, professional, and friendly. One of the best ones I’ve ever had. Most other places I’ve found around here that do extractions charge upwards of $ 150 for an hour, but at Smith St is was only $ 90. I’d definitely recommend if you want extractions done.

I specifically joined Unilocal so i could review this place, particularly after seeing some of the negative reviews. I had an EXCELLENT experience at Smith Spa. I am always on the lookout for a good quality bikini wax in the neighborhood – something better than quick-​and-​dirty cheap nail place variety. I wandered into Smith Spa (sans appointment) and they immediately sent me to Margot.
She did a GREAT job and made the experience as comfortable and quick as possible. She was also very friendly and professional.
The price was very reasonable ($ 35+tax for a high bikini), the atmosphere was clean and comfortable and the technician was excellent.
If you live in the neighborhood and want to get a good, affordable wax – I highly recommend this place.

I have to say, I was pretty happy with the two facials that I got at this spa — the facialist was kind, thorough, and the facilities were homey (nature scenes on walls, clean and trim waiting area, etc.)
However, I was really disappointed by the unprofessional way they handled an unfortunate accident that happened while I was at the spa.
On their recommendation, I had taken off a necklace (birthday gift from my mom) to hang on wall hooks before my facial. When I was getting dressed after my facial and reached for it, I accidentally dropped it and it fell behind the radiator in the room. I immediately tried to get the help of the facialist, who helped me try and fish it out for awhile … but then told me I needed to leave the room order to let the cleaners prepare the room for the next client.
I was able to get back into the room later with some tools (wire hanger, some sticky stuff from the hardware store) and keep looking, but it was impossible to tell whether the necklace was stuck behind the radiator, or whether it had fallen elsewhere and been swept up by the cleaners in the meantime.
In the end, the staff seemed irritated that I had made them go through this and didn’t offer me anything other than apologies. The necklace was worth about $ 600 — but more to the point, it was a birthday gift which couldn’t be replaced. I asked whether there was any chance they could get a handyman to detach that section of radiator from the wall so we could actually look behind it, but they were dead against it. I know, it’s my responsibility as it’s my property, but they were not sympathetic at all.
This is awhile ago now, but I’ll still never recommend this spa to anyone who asks. Plenty of other places in the neighborhood that offer quality services but with a more professional and caring attitude.

Got a facial here. The woman went to town on my face in a very uncomfortable way. My skin is scared on my forehead and it has been a nightmare for 2 weeks.
