Zipper Hospital

I brought in a jacket whose zipper had gone off the tracks and asked for a quote. Guy quickly looked it over and quoted me $ 25, then said to return in half an hour. Half an hour later, I come back to notice the jacket bunched up carelessly in a ball as though it had barely been touched. Confused, I look up at the guy. He tells me that, actually, the extent of the damage to the track is pretty bad and it will cost «a lot more money» to get it repaired. I later took the jacket for a second opinion and the guy was right about his ultimate assessment, but my question is: why did I have to waste half an hour to find this out? Why not do a thorough look-​over and give an accurate quote right away?

They do good work, but prices are quite high & the people are incredibly rude. They outright scolded me for having had my coat zipper get broken (the one they replaced). It’s also inconvenient that they don’t take cards and have a policy that after Feb. 1, you have to pay the ENTIRE AMOUNT up front, as opposed to leaving a deposit. (Because, she said, people are less likely to pick up their coats after Feb. 1, like we don’t wear jackets up into May in Boaton.) I just called them and when the woman told me that, I was like, «wow.» She got all attitudinal and went, «what? why you say that?» I told her that it was just pretty unbelievable that you have to pay for it all up front, coupled with not accepting credit cards. I sighed and she sounded puzzled and said, «is not just you. other people say same.» I told her she might want to take that into consideration.
Won’t be going back.

My snowboarding jacket’s zipper looked like a lost cost as my awesome regular tailor said they were not confident enough to fix it. Thus, after seeing reviews on Unilocal about this placed — decided to give it a try. It was a bit out of the way from brighton… but I took a chance… 30mins and 20 $ later my zipper was as good as new!

I went in with a down Patagonia jacket and a beaten up carry-​on luggage piece. The down jacket is one of my favorites, but the zipper would spontaneously come apart in the middle of the jacket once it was zipped up. The luggage zipper was coming apart from weekly Delta airlines abuse for over a year. I expected that I would have to drop both off and pick them up later in the week. I wasn’t sure both zippers needed to be completely replaced. I was wrong on both accounts. They looked at the problems very quickly and told me to come back in 45 minutes giving me an estimate. I came back to find they just needed to do minor sticking on the suitcase and simply replace the pull on the down jacket. All in less than 45min. These people are very good at what they do. If you need a zipper repaired that you don’t think can be repaired, then come to them!

I work downtown and getting over to Brookline during the work week was a challenge. Knara was very helpful and let me ship my Michael Kors down winter jacket directly to her. Once she received the jacket she called me and carefully went over my options for repair. I went with what she suggested and couldn’t be happier with the outcome! Highly recommend!

I called the business and inquired about having a zipper replaced in a leather jacket. The woman said the price would range from $ 60-​$ 90 depending on the zipper chosen…$ 60 for a medium zipper, $ 75 for a heavy duty zipper and $ 90 if it required an extra heavy duty zipper. I brought the jacket to the store the next day. The woman looked at the jacket and said the zipper was very unusual and there was no exact match. I could chose the medium grade zipper (a bit smaller than the original or the heavy duty zipper (a bit larger than the original zipper). I asked if she could order the zipper if I were willing to wait. She explained that clothing manufacturers often used odd zippers that were impossible to duplicate. I debated and finally decided on the medium zipper. The owner said the cost would be $ 90. I explained that she had told me the prices on the phone and I thought the price would be less for the smaller zipper. She hesitated and replied «the cost is all in the labor». I wasn’t sure I wanted to spend $ 90 for a zipper that really didn’t match the original so I left with the jacket. I drove to Jimmy’s shoe repair in Cambridge to get a second opinion. The owner was extremely nice and said the repair would be $ 45. I asked if they could match the current zipper and the reply was «of course, it’s a standard size zipper». He turned over the zipper and revealed an «8» on the underside. «See, it’s a standard 8 in antique finish, so it’s no problem». The jacket was ready in a few days and looked amazing. I am so glad I didn’t use the Zipper Hospital. Very deceptive practices!

The service was good. I needed the zipper fixed on my winter parka, and I decided to come here because of the good reviews. I had to wait a few weeks because the zipper was not in stock, which could’ve been a hassle if it had actually been in the middle of winter. Mostly, I wouldn’t give this more stars because of the pricing. Almost $ 50 to repair the zipper, which is almost the price of a new coat if I look out for good sales. I wish these places would list their prices online, because it’s really hard to tell what a fair price is. I tried running the number past my friends, and none of them had ever paid that much. Well, you live, you learn.

MIRACLE WORKERS. I sent in a down coat from DC because my tailor wasn’t confident about replacing the zipper on it. Knara is super knowledgeable and ordered a perfectly color-​matched zipper to replace the old one (the coat is a weird purple/​taupe). I was really worried about getting it back — I swear, I have PTSD from past alteration disasters — but it looks beautiful! I also thought the pricing was very reasonable.

The zipper broke on my boots, I took the boots to another place that charged me $ 20 and never fixed the boot. I brought back twice and it kept falling apart. Zipper hospital charged me $ 18 and the zipper is like new. I won’t go anywhere else for broken zippers. I thought this was worth the price given the boots originaly cost me close to $ 200.

They’re don’t have a storefront on the street. 318 Harvard Street is called The Arcade Building. It looks like the typical office building, but the first floor is all storefronts. ZH is all the way in the back on the right.
I have a guitar gigbag whose stitching holding one of the straps to the bag was coming apart. $ 30 and 40 minutes later, it was as good as new. It wasn’t just a matter of running an industrial sewing machine for a few seconds. They had to add an additional small piece of webbing for reasons I understand but can’t easily put into words. If I didn’t know the bag had been repaired, I couldn’t tell from looking at it.

After the zipper on my beloved Matt & Nat wallet broke I came here for a quick fix. $ 15 and 20 minutes later it was as good as new! Really pleased that a friend told me about this place.

The zipper failed on my overnight bag. The zipper doctor performed the procedure for a very reasonable (IMHO) fee and had the patient home when promised and without a scar!

I took my winter coat here for a zipper replacement. Service was quick and the price was reasonable ($ 15 if I recall correctly). My coat was done in about 20 minutes. If you are in a pinch and need your zipper repaired or replaced, this is the place to go.

I had a new overnight bag that I overstuffed thios weekend and the zipper broke… i was bummed.
i love the bag and was i afraid i was going to have to toss it.
Not only did they fix the zipper… the price was very reasonable and Knara had the job done the same day for me.

It happened so quickly. The connection had been broken. It was off the tracks. Carrying the damaged form down the street, I pick up the pace, bursting into the Arcade. My footfalls echo in the empty corridor.
Please let them be able to do something. I’m not ready to put you in a box. To be forgotten with time.

Oooooooooooooooooooooookay. So. That happened in my head. But I did really badly want to come into the Zipper Hospital going ‘Help! Help! My dress is broken-​injured-​dead! Please say you can do something!’ But once I saw a cute, quiet Russian (or Polish… European. Lets go with that.) couple bent over on sewing machines, surrounded by garments, I reconsidered and kept my trap shut.
$ 15 to fix a zipper on one of my Anthropologie dresses that ran off the tracks when I was dumb enough not to unzip it before taking it off. When I picked the garment up two days later, not only had the zipper been fixed, but the seams and threads around the zipper had been trimmed up and reinforced. A+ in my book. I definitely recommend this place.

The slider had fallen off the zipper of my favorite winter coat so I went in to get a replacement. I knew what I needed and how to replace it and just needed to get the right size slider. Rather than sell me the 50 cent slider, they wanted to charge me $ 15 to replace it. I’m sorry, but that’s a bit too hefty a markup for what would take less than a minute of work on their part.
I took the coat to Joann Fabrics, found a 6″ zipper with the same tooth profile and bought it for $ 2. Cut off the zipper stop and put the slider on my coat before leaving the parking lot.
I’m all for supporting small local businesses, but that support stops when they want to bend you over the table to make a quick buck. Sorry Zipper Hospital, but you just flat lined.

This place is great.
My favorite Michael Kors coat zipper was kaput, it was separating on its own. I was soo sad and hopeless. I took my coat to Zipper Hospital in hopes of some relief.
30 min, 18 dollars my coat is alive and zipper is working.

This place is GREAT.
I’ve had them do the works here: dry cleaning, alterations, zipper repair, and zipper replacement. I have not had a single issue — they are friendly, fast, and fairly priced.

Thanks, Unilocalers, for letting me know about this place. I got a great down coat at Goodwill but it needed a new zipper. Even at $ 42 for a new zipper (it’s a long coat), I paid about a quarter of what the coat would have cost new. I dropped it off before the holidays so I had to wait a few weeks before it was ready, but the work looks great – you’d never know it’s not the original zipper.
Bonus: it’s in a cute old arcade that features a barber, a beauty salon, a cobbler (knife sharpening on certain days, too), alterations, a café and more.
