Really solid Indian food. I got a coconut curry that packed some heat, along with a naan and samosas. Samosas are bready but well spiced. Curry hit the spot and was a good portion. Could have been a bit spicier at its hot level, but I was left more than satisfied.
Glad to find tasty Indian food in my neighborhood and will go for more complicated dishes next time

I live close to Shan-​A-​Punjab and get takeout regularly. Their naan is perfect; soft, warm, and a little chewy. I get the lamb saag, goa shrimp, or the shrimp coconut curry. All are fantastic. Once in a while I’ll try another Indian place in the neighborhood and they’re never as good as Shan. When I eat in the restaurant, the staff is kind and attentive. Delivery is very quick! They have a convenient app or eat24 to order. All in all, it’s my favorite comfort food in the area.

We may have gotten sick after eating here. The only thing we shared all night was dinner at this place. After eating, came right home, and the two of us fell sick in a few hours.
The owner asked us to remove this review and also offered a refund, but we felt it was more important to leave an honest review.

I went here for dinner tonight — the pakora apps came out within a few minutes of ordering and were barely warm — probably not freshly made and we noticed a few other strange things about our meal.
We came home and within a few hours, we were sick. This dinner was the only food we had together all day.

I’ve tried quite a few Indian places in the metro Boston area, but holy moly — was pleasantly surprised at the quality of everything we ordered last night. The vegetable korma was possibly the best I’ve ever had, and both the naan and the vegetable samosas were fantastic. Will definitely be back.

Yummy, yummy, yummy!!! Got the chicken curry and saag ! I can’t forget the garlic naan. Prices were average for Brookline, the restaurant was clean!!! Also was decorated tastefully for Christmas. I ordered take out and had a drink at the bar while I waited. They staff was all pleasant, and helpful. Another bonus is there is a parking lot!!! I can’t wait to eat here again ^_^

Love the food. Lamb curry was just great.
BUT the service is very poor. After we were served appetizers, they forgot that we had ordered main course as well.
The food is great but they really need to work on the service. I have heard that they have two managers. While one is very proactive, the other is bit laid back. I guess I was there when the other manager was there.

I’ve been eating here since it opened and the place had really grown on me. It’s fairly high quality indian food, but it’s the lunch buffet that really put it over the top. They had an extended collection of Indian food going beyond the usually standard currys. Chole and puri (chick peas and bread) is not something you find in most buffets. The value for the lunch buffet is awesome. Naan is delicious and fresh as are their buffet desserts.

Indian is one of my favorite cuisines but it is slim pickings in Boston. This place has a long list of dishes with some nice variety proteins-​wise. Their lamb dishes were okay — savory, spicy combinations and the lamb was very tender but lacking on the quality side when it came to the sauces. It felt like amateur hour due to the superficial flavors (spices) and an overdose of heavy cream. The goat dish we tried was one I wouldn’t get again as it came with a watery sauce and was mostly bones with very little meat to actually try. Their garlic naan is good and samosas were delish though their sauces that accompany the dish lacked a depth of flavor.

If you’re ordering from Boston college upper campus DONT DO IT. It took THREE HOURS for me to get my food delivered. The delivery guy was a total ass hole to me on the phone, then when he got there and saw me he was apologetic and flirty. Somehow he got my number from the delivery service he works for and he STILL texts me almost every other day though I give no reply (it’s been 2 weeks).
The food is pretty good, though.

I really enjoyed my dinner here and am happy to have found an Indian restaurant in the Coolidge Corner area that I like. The restaurant is not too big but has an outdoor space which is nice. The complementary cracker-​like appetizer was particularly savory albeit a bit oily, and it came with the standard chutneys. We ordered the garlic naan, lamb korma, and chana paneer masala all of which were very good and reasonably priced (~$ 14 per entrée). The lamb was very tender in a creamy sauce, and the paneer was quite good to the point where I wish there had been a little more in the dish. I think they had forgotten about our naan because it didn’t come out with all of the other dishes and we had to ask for it again halfway through our meal, but I’m glad we did because it was piping hot and fresh. The service was also good and the food came out fast so overall it was a very good dining experience. One thing is that they didn’t ask us about spice level like I had anticipated, and it seemed like both dishes we got were mild/​not spicy.

Ordered here with the roommates; was not especially pleased. I’ll come back to try their lunch buffet if I ever get a weekday to come give it a go, but in the meantime here are the reasons that I was less than impressed:
First, the price. Fifteen bucks!!! For something like chicken tikka masala? No. No no no. Try again.
That mindset may have been what screwed me over, though. I got samosas and mulligatawny soup because those were the two things on the menu that seemed reasonably priced. The samosas were good, but the soup left me wanting — it was sort of a potato-​ey flavored water. Good spices, sure, but I felt like I must be missing something. And it was so tiny! If the rest of the soups were that small, I’d be very hesitant to order them just based on quantity. (Also, re the samsosas, I know a few other places on Harvard Street that I can get samosas for less than $ 2 a piece.)
The delivery time was the other concerning bit. I don’t know exactly how long we waited, but I’m pretty sure it was at least well over an hour, perhaps nearing two, before our disappointing food was finally delivered. They don’t charge a delivery fee, so at least I didn’t feel bitter that I had to pay for a delivery that I could have picked up myself much faster; instead, I just felt hungry.
So, I dunno. Maybe I’m just not used to paying a premium for good Indian food. I know that I didn’t try all of the options. Maybe it’s secretly great. But I would be so sad to pay that much for greatness that I couldn’t have on a whim! So I’ll pass.

Update: I’ve been to their lunch buffet quite a few times already and they are always consistent. Newly cooked with fresh ingredients and they give you a side of naan that is straight out of the oven. I always pick the garlic naan because I am a garlic fiend. I love their cauliflower manchurian, beef kofta, chicken tikka masala, that one eggplant dish but I forgot the name. EVERYTHING is awesome on that buffet table and I always come hungry. They probably refer to me as that one «short Filipino lady who always get third servings!» Yes I pig out there and am proud of it.
Another plus is the staff is always smiling (or maybe they find humor in the amount of food I can inhale) and their bathroom is clean. They totally deserve the extra star now that I have visited their restaurant.

Stopped for dinner at around 8pm on the weekend. Weirdly, we were basically the only people at the restaurant. The location is on a good area for dining, but a little farther than most.
As soon as we sat down, we were given menus and water. The TV was playing with some music that was not annoying, but perhaps a little bit too loud and rowdy and sort of affected the ambiance they seemed to be going for.
Onto the food, for appetizer went for the vegetable samosa, it comes with two decently sized samosas and they were good. We were given free cracker like bread and some sauces complimentary when we sat down that helped bring more flavor to the samosa.
For main dishes: butter chicken and coconut chicken curry. Both spectacular in flavor profiles, and still had full flavor after specifying for mild heat. Came with a big bowl of rice that was also great. When we ordered, our friendly waiter asked if we wanted bread for our meal. We had been back and forth on getting some Naan, and his request tipped us over the edge. Did not regret getting the Garlic Naan, perfectly seasoned and charred it was great.
Would certainly return and try more of their dishes. Would stick with ordering other Naan flavors and not samosas as they did not impress me. Friendly and warm staff, someone who we assume was the manager or owner asked how our meal was twice during our visit and he was very attentive as were the waiters with water and such.
(One thing to note: asked for our plenty of leftovers to be wrapped up– and did notice we were given half the amount of rice we had left. Probably so it would fit in their small to go container but it was not a big deal)

After watching the movie «A Hundred Foot Journey» (a good movie by the way my friends starring Helen Mirren), my man and I were craving Indian food. And so we found ourselves at Shan-​A-​Punjab.

Ambiance is low key with an odd green-​brown color coordination going on inside. The plates and the fancy folded cloth napkins gives you the illusion you’re at a slightly fancy Indian restaurant.
–Service is s-​l-​o-​w. Despite having only 2 tables of patrons when we were seated, there was ~10 minute wait for the menus which is ridiculous. Only after 2 reminders and hunger crankiness did they bring them out for us.
The food also took ~30 minutes to come out– we only ordered 2 entrees and was the only table waiting for food. You know it’s bad when one of the waiters personally comes up to you with no prompt and apologizes. By the time our dishes came out, we had already finished 3 refills of the on-​the-​house appetizer because we were starving.
Recs:
Chicken Tikka Masala– rich curry flavor with large cubes of chicken. Comes with a hefty bowl of rice.
Skip:
Palak paneer– a vegetarian dish consisting of well cooked spinach and large blocks of cheese. The cheese were a turn off, so in the end our bowl was left with full of cheese cubes. My man said it tasted like tofu if you closed your eyes, but even the tofu taste couldn’t convince him to take more mouthfuls.
