I’m obsessed with the Raja tacos — vegetarian taco stuffed with poblano peppers, beans and cheese. Filling and yet not heavy at all. wow!

Walked in and up to the counter, the cook and the woman operating the register gave me a dirty look and said nothing to me. They didn’t ask if I would like to be helped or anything. So I asked for a steak burrito and she said«with everything?» so I reviewed the menu board and agreed. She then typed on her iPad for 2 minutes until I asked for a total. I paid and asked for the order to go so I didn’t have to sit in this empty place and be watched by employees who clearly do not want to be there. She mumbled thank you and I got home a little miffed but excited to eat because I was starving. The burrito was a decent size. Not like Anna’s or El Pelon or chipotle but decent. But it was luke warm(I live 2 minutes walking from this place) and bland. For the 7.50 I paid they were kind enough to throw in some tasteless chips and some good salsa. I will never set foot in this place again.

Sensational flavors and notes across the board. We sat at the bar, which can sometimes feel like a place for second tier citizens, but not this time. Great service and delectable food. What more could you want?

Worst burrito place I’ve ever been. Stick to Anna’s if you are the Brookline area. It sucks, it sucks, it sucks

Been back four times since my last review. Man was I wrong about not going out of my way to get there!!! I’m hooked. Just brought a friend who seriously dislikes Mexican food. He ordered three tacos by the time we left! They also have some gluten free options. I’m still stuck on the big guacamole up-charge for the quesadilla so I’m keeping it at four stars. ;)

Stopped by to get a quick and cheap dinner while in the area, and tried out the pork quesadilla. Upside: the quesadilla was barely greasy at all, easy to hold(a nice neat square-shaped packet), had a good amount of decent quality pork distributed throughout, and was reasonably priced at $ 5.50. Oh, and Olecito takes Levelup($ 1 in credit for your first purchase). Downside: the pico and cheese weren’t really uniformly distributed(and there didn’t seem to be a ton of either), and the overall taste was a bit bland. Flavor-wise, it’s hard to beat the grease-bomb that is Anna’s quesadilla, but I think Olecito is still a decent choice for a cheap/quick/filling Mexican meal when you’re in the neighborhood(maybe just add some hot sauce for flavor?). [UPDATE: their Rajas veggie taco is surprisingly really delicious, and fairly filling on its own despite being just a single taco.]

Best. Tacos. Ever. The burritos are also to die for. Haven’t gotten around to trying the other menu items yet because I’m always going back for more tacos & burritos! I come in here during the week as I work in Brookline Village and will either get 2 tacos or a burrito and it makes for a FANTASTIC lunch. I seriously can’t speak highly enough of this place. I usually call ahead for my order. They do have an app but I don’t know if it actually works and don’t want to take the risk. Very small, brightly colored space — best for takeout, although there are a few tables. Coworkers also speak highly of the soda fountain, but I’m not a big soda drinker so I can’t say I’ve tried it.

I recently discovered Olecito as a lunch destination from my work and am SOHAPPY to have a great burrito place within walking distance. So far I’ve only gotten the chicken burrito — I should try something else but it is so good that I keep going back for more. It is full of flavor, and they do not charge extra for guacamole, which is a pleasant surprise! Also, whenever my coworker and I order over the phone, they include chips & salsa free of charge(I’m not sure if they would do this if we weren’t ordering together… but I totally approve!). Overall the prices are incredibly reasonable, the space is cute with bright colors and funky art, and you can use Level Up here. No complaints!

In my hometown of 2+ million in a certain southern state which shall not be named(think BIG), there about 10 restaurants with delicious food that make me giddy with excitement. In Boston, there is one. It is called Olecito. I come here for the tacos, which are drool-worthy on the regular and a relatively fair 3.95 a pop. There are 4 main types: Baja(fish, usually shrimp), Carnitas(pork), Arrachera(Steak), and Rajas(Vegetarian). All are incredibly delicious, though the pork tends to be a little too salty for me. I’m not a big fan of salty. They come overstuffed with an extra corn tortilla, which equals two tacos to me! I’ll eat two(technically four) for a meal and go home happy. I don’t know why they left chicken tacos off the menu, but you can get chicken with everything else at Olecito. I have strayed from my beloved tacos only once, to try a salad. It was good, but nowhere near as good as the tacos. They also serve tostadas and burritos, which I can only assume are delicious. Top it all off with a swig of Jarritos, and you will experience great happiness. Sidenote: I’m pretty sure the only two people who seem to work there are a couple, and I always feel like I’m intruding on some behind-the-counter flirtation when I walk into the store. Maybe it’s just me, but either way I recommend taking your food to go, as the place is tiny and clearly designed for pickup. I like to eat my tacos on the park benches across the street, but that’s more out of a sense of urgency to wolf down the delicious fare than out of preference. The only real downside to this place is that it closes at 9, like everything in Brookline. Oh yeah, and the fact that it’s in Brookline. That’s a definite downside, because it’s not next door to me.

The meat in one of my tacos was cold and one of the employees was eating their dinner on the food service line. That’s right, eating on the part where they make your food(albeit on the other side of the service line that was currently in use). Besides being cold, the food was just generally OK, which is how ALL fast food is, right?

Gotten take out a few times. Not much space to sit in. The tacos are just ok, nothing great there, I think it’s their tortilla choice, not sure tho. But their tortas are awesome. And their salad is really good too, surprisingly great. Also their chips are great, on par with a lot of the better mexican joints in the brookline area. Haven’t tried the burritos yet b/c I’m an Anna’s man. Overall for the price I would recommend for something a bit different. Parking is on street but it’s brookline across the st from the CVS so it’s not an issue.

Bland! That’s how I’d describe the food here at Olecito. My quesidilla was just smushy cheese! No flavor, no spice! Just cheese and tortilla! M’lady’s burrito seemed to be bland too(although she says it got better as she kept eating, but I think she was just trying to be nice). The included a bag of chips and salsa which I thought was a nice touch, until I tried them. The chips were… you guessed it, bland, and slightly stale. The salsa tasted like cold marinara sauce. What a shame! The place is so close and so inexpensive, I want to like you Olecito! I really do! Why don’t you taste flavorful and yummy?!

On of the best takeout options for your dollar in the Brookline area. Any of the burrito choices are great, especially the braised pork. For $ 5.75 comes with some chips and their unique, tasty salsa. The cemitas, while a bit more, are also fantastic. Super quick service, most times you don’t even need to call ahead.

In the burrito wars of Brookline Olecito is a contender. Burrito comes with fresh ingredients that have layers of flavor. Helpful counter help and my burrito came with chips and salsa. My son and I ate for under $ 12 with a drink. I will return.

«I don’t know if it’s supposed to be delicious but it is food, it is filling…» That quote from my dad pretty much sums it up! As a southern California dweller maybe I’m used to a little more kick, and this place just didn’t have it. The pepper taco I tried had little flavor and the churros were doughy with hardly any cinnamon sugar on it. They do get points for being nice and for accomodating a special diet. Also it’s a pretty good location with parking spots right out front(both open when I was there on a Saturday afternoon). 3 solid stars!

This spot was my first and favorite neighbor in the fine city of Boston. Generally speaking, this place is mind-blowing. Imaginative combinations, fresh ingredients, everything made in an open kitchen that is extraordinarily clean. I am also fond of the concept restaurant trend and this place pretty much neatly ties up all the reasons why. Order: Carnitas burrito, shrimp tacos with kimchi, Coke in a glass bottle made with cane sugar.

If not for the fact that have tortas(unlike many other mexican places in the area), olceito would have sadly received 1 star from me. I excitedly awaited the restaurants opening for a year, and was sadly disappointed in my first visit. I found the pineapple salsa on the carnitas taco to be inedible– tasted like canned pieces of pineapple sprinkled throughout bland pork shreds. The naked burrito was unimpressive– bland rice and beans, but the tortilla on the regular burrito was equally unimpressive. There is no reason I will ever go anywhere other than Anna’s or Boca Grande.

Olecito or little Olé is solid option if your craving some mexican food in the Brookline area. For those of you who have had the pleasure of dining at Olé in Inman SQ, then you know of the authentic and quality flavors that I speak of. I had a carnitas burrito yesterday and I was loving it. The slow cooked pork married so well with the pickled vegtables. The salsa was so different than what I’m used to. It was good, I mean Real Good. With some free chips on the side, this burrito provided a nice little lunch that kept me going through out the afternoon. For only 5.25 I could see myself making a habit of scoring a burrito here on the regular.

Olecito is replacing the T-Rex Taqueria on Cypress St. and it has finally opened after having their windows covered in paper for what seems like a year. The hold up must have been for the sweet wooden bar top in the middle of their counter. I was there with my girlfriend last night and tried to get a variety of their food to see how everything was. I got a steak taco along with pork burrito that come with the normal rice, beans and cheese but they also include pico, sour cream and guacamole without any extra charge, that is a nice change from most places. My girlfriend got the shrimp taco and a chicken quesadilla. The first thing was that we got all this for just over $ 15 so a nice solid value and we were both full after eating. We both started with the tacos. My girlfriend enjoyed her shrimp taco and was pleased that they got her order correct and didn’t add the cabbage, there was just one shrimp in the taco but it was butterflyed and was big enough to fill the tortilla. My steak taco seemed to be missing the sauces it should have had on the menu, while the steak taste was solid the rest was bland and I would have enjoyed the avocado sauce. Onto the larger fare, the quesadilla was folded into a nice square full of cheese. We should have started with this or even eaten it right out of the bag after paying for it since by now the cheese was no longer hot. It still tasted good and will be going back to try another one right off the grill to see how much better it can be. My burrito was also solid, better then that of the shop Olecito is replacing but tough to stand up to some of the other burritos in the general area. As I mentioned before it comes with sour cream and guacamole and I was excited when I saw that, unfortunately I did not see much of either in the burrito. There was a good amount of pork and it had a nice taste to it, most of my other bites were overpowered by beans. They did toss in some tortilla chips and salsa with the burrito as well, a nice little bonus. This review would be a 3.5 but since Unilocal doesn’t allow that I have to make the hard decision on 3stars of 4stars. Ultimately I went with 3, the value was the one thing that was pushing it towards the 4. While the burrito and quesadilla were alright if that’s all my girlfriend and I are in the mood for we know where we want to go to solve that craving. The tacos ended up making this a 3. We will be going back as the menu board had a few items that were not ready as of the opening including enchiladas and frozen yogurt. I will be giving the tacos another shot to hopefully earn the 4th star.
