Pelham Bay Park Dog Run

Ignore the old review (4÷4÷2013) of 1 star. I am guessing there has been some changes made. It was my first time there and my first time in Pelham Bay Park and in a dog park with our new dog. Looking forward to going back

We took our dog here over the weekend and was pleasantly surprised by it. It’s a big enough fenced in area with the bigger run and a separate smaller run. The weather was nice so there was a good amount of dogs there. Everyone seemed friendly as well. There’s no water here for the dogs so please bring your own. Also please bring your own bags to pick up after your dogs. There’s a parking lot for free parking and then a short walk to the dog run.

Would not bother with this one.
Things it has going for it:
— Decent size but there is plenty of room to make it bigger
— Plenty of shade
— Separate large & small dog runs
— Wood chips as ground cover (better than dirt)
Things it has against it:
— No poop bags provided
— Inadequate fencing, too low in areas (build up of wood chips)
— Entrance area needs to be larger and gates need work
— No water for dogs in run
— No bathrooms for humans
— Minimum maintenance is being done
I have been to this park only once and I would not go back to it again. The people there seem nice and attentive to their dogs but this run needs a major renovation. Its a little small, but there is plenty of room to make it bigger, the low fences I can see as being a problem for some dogs. Residents and their dogs in this area deserve better then this.
