Steven’s Gap Restaurant

We were on vacation and decided to try on the menu on Sunday lunch and we were 6. The fish was tender, nicely cooked and had the natural flavor of catfish. The chicken fried steak was perfectly done and had a very nice aroma. We didn’t like the gravy much. The breans were nicely done and the tots were crisp but not dripping oil!
The ambience is nice and cozy. The staff were friendly taking the orders helped with us in choosing the right food. We had the pumpkin pie and it was very delicious, one of the best that We have had.
We will come back for the breakfast!
Nice place and God food. Luckily we saw someone’s comment that they close at 2 and they really close at 2!!!

My husband and I had breakfast on a Sunday morning. I had pancakes and bacon, the bacon was perfectly crispy and the pancakes had a buttery outside crispness with a fluffy inside, so good. My husband had eggs and biscuits with gravy. The gravy was great and the biscuits were nice and fluffy. We were looking forward to dinner and some of their homemade pies. Unfortunately we didn’t pay attention to their hours as they close on Sunday at 2pm. We will have to try it again the next time we are in town.

Went for pie and coffee to try out. Great on both counts. Will be back on next year’s vacation.

I visit my family in Broken Bow yearly, this was my first time visiting Steven’s Gap, Sept 5, 2015 My family and I ate there for lunch and breakfast the next morning. Their omelettes was delicious and rhe pancakes were huge and slightly thick but very good. The staff was professional and friendly and told us to make ourselves at home. And the pies OMG delicious! I highly recommend this place to eat and get there early for whatever time you go because they fill up quick and you may have to wait, but it’s worth it.

«Tourists» looking for a good home cooked, country breakfast & we found it! Delish biscuits and gravy with fantastic sausage! Oh and those PANCAKES, they smell just as wonderful as they taste! Superior staff to boot! Highly recommend this place to your family! Will be coming back when we visit!

Being on vacation we were looking for a quick bite to eat before kayaking. Read some reviews on this place an me gave it a try. Very good! Small place, quick service and fresh food. We had a table of 5 and everyone enjoyed their food. We had scrambled eggs, omelets, biscuits and gravy, bacon. No one ordered the pancakes. It’s kind of hard to see if you’re not directly looking for it. Overall find it and eat there! You won’t be disappointed!

Must go here. We really liked this place! They had perfect catfish!!! Beans and hush puppies were also great. A little salt & pepper was needed for the beans, but I understand since they were made for all kinds of people. The beans had real meat in them, very flavorful. The «real» hush puppies had peppers in them & fried crispy. Yummy!!! The catfish tasted fresh and it was flakey and cooked good. The okra was crispy and yummy! Onion rings were cooked to order and made there. All I can say is that my 76 year old father loved the left overs (large portions) and he has eaten a lot of catfish in his day. We will definitely eat here when we visit Oklahoma again. I want to try the Chicken Fried Steak next time.

We stopped for breakfast. The biscuits & sausage were great. The gravy was standard white gravy. The sausage & cheese omelet was cooked just right. The breakfast potatoes reminds me of cubed steak fries. They were good & served hot. The coffee was hot but they serve non dairy creamer packets in place of cream.
The service was fast & friendly.

Friendly service, homemade pies and hotcakes bigger than your head. A small greasy spoon joint where the locals show up for breakfast and lunch. Most everything for breakfast is great, lunch choices are just okay.
We’ve ordered many of their homemade pies over the holidays which have been a hit. Our favorites are the coconut cream (with meringue on top) and chocolate cream. Be sure to grab a bag of the peanut brittle (in a basket by the register), it’s the real deal.

I’m a foodie girl who loves to eat great tasting food. My group was Girlfriend’s Weekend Getaway with my High School Buddies. We found this little jewel on a Sat evening around 7:30p after spending the day kayaking on the river (it had rained the day and evening before… the river was wild). We were tired and hungry and ready for a good meal. Tried to get into two other crowded places, but the wait was longer than we cared for. Remembered passing this little shack restaurant and decided to go back and hope for the best. Wow, we were not disappointed! Not only were we stuffed, but we had plenty left to take with us. (Consider sharing b/​c the portions are large.) We started with onion rings for an appetizer and they were a tasty treat the size of a dessert plate. I had the Med Catfish Platter… yes, the small would have been enough for 1 very hungry person. Mine had 5 nice size strips which were well seasoned and breaded. Great tasting Catfish (even semi-​cold as a snack the next day). Plate also included awesome hushpuppies with the right amount of onion and I think even a few bits of jalapeño pepper. The coleslaw was the perfect amount of sweetness and onion for flavor without a heavy sauce to it. I was approaching full and could not eat the loaded baked potato, but I tasted it anyway and was it ever a nice surprise with perfectly scrumptious apple-​wood smoked bacon bits included. For a catfish lover, the cherry on the cake to my platter was the green tomato relish (you have to ask for b/​c it’s not listed on the menu). The pinto beans were okay. Two of my friends had the Chicken Fried Steak plates, and they almost covered the plates. I didn’t try it myself, but they looked great and I was told they were tasted great. My other GF opted for the Grilled Chicken and it came to the table looking very tender and juicy with the word being that it tasted as great as it looked for a simple chicken breast (2 included on her plate). Please don’t miss out on the Friend Green Beans which are an awesome surprise as well! The service was fair, but the food was Great!

Stopped in here for breakfast while on vacation last week because it had such great reviews online. The atmosphere of the place is horrendous, service is unfriendly, and food was not worth paying for. I ordered the southwest omelet which would have been fine if it wasn’t for the processed velveeta-​like cheese on it. Gross! Who wants to eat that? My like for american cheese stopped about the same time as my like for new kids on the block. The home fries were okay, but the omelet is what I was looking forward to eating. Biscuits were about as good as if they had come from a can. Don’t get me wrong, canned biscuits taste good, but I expect homemade when eating at restaurants. The waitress barely spoke to or looked at us until we were paying and leaving (when it was time to leave the tip). Take it from me, you’re better off cooking food in your cabin or campsite than eating here.

5 stars because I have to think apples to apples here. (Catfish Dinners). If you want fried catfish in the Southeastern Oklahoma area, look no further!
Yes, I am from LA. Altadena to be exact, but that doesn’t matter really.
I came here so that my SO could try authentic fried catfish. We’d been working on the ranch, and then hiking around Beaver’s Bend all day and met my Grandma and Parents for dinner (after the two of us had a beer at Grateful Head).
The portions are enormous! I ordered a Catfish snack which is a basket filled with fries, hush puppies and fried catfish. Really enough for two small eaters. But– the prices are such that you can order two separate meals, and still be way under budget.
The fried catfish are juicy, crispy and spicy. Now. I have eaten fried catfish at quite a few places, and at «home», mind you. I loved the catfish and the hush puppies. The fries were also delicious, but as I am accustomed to pommes frites…
I ate both catfish strips. They were delicious. No regrets. Even my Dad says he prefers and loves the catfish at Steven’s Gap.
ATMOSPHERE: Fluorescent lights with predictable tables and chairs. Not the most inviting or comfortable, but when your meal is $ 5, you don’t worry so much about that. When you pull up, you may second think your decision, but go on in and enjoy, or you can carry out, however– the fried catfish are best eaten right at the table!
Our server was patient with me, and tolerant of our party, and she did a great job.

This is a little place, widely visited by the locals. Very clean, great service, fresh food. Menu is a little old-​fashioned, heavy on the fried food, but is consistently good. The price is very inexpensive. Great for families!

Travelers, if you’re looking for a little greasy spoon country cooking, you may as well stop here. (There isn’t a whole lot else around anyway.) Sweet fried corn bites, onion rings as big as your head, super hush puppies and enormous catfish pieces (aim to split a platter, okay?) make this a good old find.

Fantastic! We have gone twice in two days. We were there during lunchtime for both, and both times, both the food and the service was great. Two things I’m always searching for as hallmarks of good restaurants are good french fries and good hushpuppies, when they serve them, and both of these were amazing. However, if there’s one thing you have to try, it’s the catfish. They are known for their catfish and chicken fried steak — we didn’t try the latter, but we actually went back to share a 7 piece catfish plate for 13 dollars today, if it gives you an idea of how good it was. I can also tell you that the burger we got the first day was also very good, but we haven’t had a bad one yet in Hochatown. As far as the service — yes, it’s a little informal. These are regional waitresses, which means they aren’t going to cater hand and foot to you — however, it also means that they genuinely care about whether or not you need something, how good it is, and are always up for friendly conversation. You just have to get their attention. We loved it! This is a must-​stop restaurant — you’ll find yourself going back again and again.

This is one of those local places that I really wanted to dig and give a great rating. Regrettably, I can’t do it. When the best things I could come up with about Stephens Gap Restaurant are it was clean and beat cooking while you’re on vacation (barely), you know there is a real issue.
We stopped in one morning for breakfast before heading out of the park and down to Broken Bow to pick up a few things. They have a pretty limited menu of the breakfast basics — eggs, sausage, bacon, home fries, and pancakes. I chose the ultra-​exotic item on their menu, the breakfast sandwich. It was a hamburger bun with scrambled egg, american cheese, and a sausage patty (I could have had bacon or ham). It tasted about as pedestrian as it sounds. I had a taste of my son’s pancake, too. Similar to my meal, it was unremarkable.
The service provided no redemption. The waitress took our order and delivered our meal. Outside of that, she was incognito at our table. Perhaps I should go back and try something off their lunch menu, but I’m in no hurry.
