We are Mellow Mushroom fans. We have actually been to this particular location several times. We have always had a good meal and great experience. This time I ordered one of the«specialty pizzas», a «Veg Out,» which I did not notice was gluten free. When our pizza arrived it was a «Mega Veggie.» This particular pizza can be found at all locations. I never order it because we try to avoid soy(or an excess of it) and this pizza is topped with tofu. It also has some veggies I would prefer to keep as a side and not a pizza topping. I did not eat a single piece and had to order a slice of cheese. While the server had been very kind and helpful up to that point, when we spoke with him about the issue he did not seem to care. He offered to remake the pizza(which was a split pizza and has all ready been half eaten), but we did not have time wait for a second pizza to be made. We have just left a Mellow Mushroom and paid for a full pizza while ½ went in the trash and I am still hungry. Did I mention we PAID for a FULL pizza!!! It was a bummer. We expect so much more from Mellow Mushroom.

I’ll be honest: The server could dump the food in my lap and slap me in the face and I’d still love this place more than life itself. I’ve been to Mellow Mushroom chains all over the place and this is one of the good ones. This place is nice and clean, and the food always arrives in a reasonable amount of time, even on busy nights. I’m giving it four stars instead of five because of the lack of atmosphere(don’t get me wrong, the place is decorated to the nines but it still feels like you’re eating in a warehouse), and the fact that service can be a little cold. Attentive, but cold. I’m wondering if they put their staff through Russian military school as part of training. Anyway, my favorite menu items are the oven roasted wings, greek salad(best I’ve ever had, be sure and get the esperanza dressing), the gourmet white pizza, and the house special pizza. You can’t go wrong here.

Not sure why no one has reviewed this place since 2013, but it’s a great place to eat. Was a little worried it was no longer around, so we were excited to not only see it was still open, but also that the parking lot was crowded. The menu is super expansive. So many choices and all sounded good. You can make your own salad and pizza– choosing from an assortment of toppings. And there are also gluten free choice. We ordered the mushroom soup, spinach salad, and Greek salad. I’m not a mushroom soup person, but this was excellent! And both salads were wonderful– homemade dressings. I definitely recommend this restaurant.

Great place to eat fantastic food and service. The salad was delicious and huge which was a half salad by the way. Pizza was the way pizza was meant to be made crust was perfect just the right amount of toppings. I loved it and would highly recommend it!

Do not underestimate this place. Because I almost did. It’s way better than I expected. I came here because it was close to my hotel and had good beer selections. Okay this place is more than that. Hard for me to even believe this place is a chain! Great food, wonderful staff. And of course great draft beers!

In the area looking for a good craft beer selection and this was the place. This location had one of the better tap selections of any of the other Mellow Mushroom locations I have visited. A nice selection of local breweries was represented on the tap list. The food was really tasty as well. We had an off menu appetizer called ‘fun guys’ which are pretzel bites with a beer cheese dip. Highly recommended. Great service at the bar as well. We will visit again when we are in the area.

The good: Pizza was tasty(I had the gourmet white), the music was also good, we had some local beers and it had nice ambiance. The bad: Pricey and slow service. We stopped in for lunch on a weekday. It was conveniently located right off the interstate and we were about a 45 minutes into a 5 — 5 ½ hour drive into Virginia. It wasn’t very busy at all. I’d say there were approximately 4 or 5 other parties and there were 3 waitresses/waiters that I saw. The pizzas took awhile to come out, which I’m assuming is necessary process. However, our waitress seemed over matched. Not sure if she was given the bulk of the other parties? But it took a long time to get service from her again after we were done eating. We sat there and watched her walk by a few times w/o acknowledging us. We had the credit card sitting out on the edge of the table, waiting… We both even had time to go to the restroom(separately) before she came by with the to go pizza boxes and the check. And here’s the other part — the price. I was surprised and I really needed to pay better attention to the menu. The craft draught beers were $ 5.75 each(if I recall correctly) and the small pizzas were $ 15 each. I thought mine was $ 10 or $ 11 based on pricing I saw on the menu, but apparently that wasn’t for their«specialty pizzas» as they are all $ 15.(I probably wouldn’t have ordered it if I realized that. I probably would’ve just ordered pizza by the slice.) So our lunch turned out to cost more than our dinner did later that day on the road.

Pizzas are incredibly good. As good… in their own way… as Uno’s Original Deep Dish in Chicago. Yes the original Mellow Mushroom for me was Asheville but the food is just as good here. Not the classic hip Asheville ambience but then Daddy used to say you can’t eat atmosphere… but you pay for it. Gourmet White and Philosophers Pie are both fantastic. It’s all fresh and super tasty. Some locals complain the prices are high compared to Little Caesars or the local greasepit. I certainly hope so. This is gourmet pizza. In Bristol, VA.

We wanted to try someplace new and ended up here. The place was a little loud secondary to the NASCAR race but the food was amazing! The spinach salad was perfectly balanced with sweet and savory. the ingredients were fresh and delicious. The pizza was outstanding. The meats were spicy but not overpowering and the pesto was just perfectly garlicy. All in all a wonderful dinner. Will definitely go there again!

Food was great, service just okay. Waitress was easily distracted, couldn’t remember things, didn’t ask if we wanted dessert. Always ask about dessert! And she took my plate away while I was still eating! The food gets four stars, the service only two stars!

Best pizza in Bristol hands down. The crust is absolutely perfect. Just the right amount of sauce and cheese. this place is amazing. The only drawback was took awhile for the pizza to come out but the manager and waitress was so nice and they notices that we been waiting for awhile and brought out free bread sticks with sauce for us. Too bad we couldn’t drink beer with the pizza cause we have to go back to work. Will come back here again and I highly recommend to anyone.

I am a huge fan of this chain pizza joint. Usually there is a large selection of great beer on tap to choose from, great food and awesome staff. But not here. This location was staffed some of the most rudest people I’ve ever come across. And our pizza, after arriving after an hour, was the wrong kind. When the on e we finally ordered came, it was burnt and looked like someone sprinkled it with floor dirt and hair. Avoid this location like the plague!!!

We used to love the pizza at the location in Frisco, TX, but the service was horrid so we never went back. I was so excited to see that they had a location in Bristol and prayed the bad service didn’t transcend state lines. The to go service was actually quite good. The front desk girl offered me a free drink because I had to wait extra time. Unfortunately, it was the pizza that was lacking. Just plain… blah! Zero flavor which is difficult for a half cheese/half pepperoni. Double whammy is the high price tag. $ 22 for a mediocre large pizza and plain salad. Always burns me up when I don’t get what I pay for and in this case it was taste. This love affair is officially over.

At first I wasn’t a big fan of the gluten free dough probably because it was so different however the more I have it the better it gets. Also try the pretzels with beer cheese if you can they are also gluten free and delicious down to the last bite. My mother had the 6′ avocado hoagie and she loved it which is saying a lot since she makes her own guacamole. Friendly service with a smile is to always be expected this specific visit Mariah was extremely nice and attentive though they were busy and she was definately a highlight for my mother and I request her section when you visit and you won’t be disappointed!

I was most surprised to discover that Bristol, VA has its very own branch of Mellow Mushroom, a chain I associate with college towns and hipsters. And believe it or not, this happened to be my first time trying this restaurant, though I have access to other locations much closer to me. What you’d expect and can find at this spot: scruffy-haired staff with ink and unnatural hair colors. Outdoor seating. What’s probably more unique to Bristol: local beer(and by local, I mean beer brewed thirty minutes away), big families(not extended), and being able to count the number of non-white guests with just one hand. Anyway, the food itself was pretty good. We enjoyed this cheesy, garlicky pie, the Holy Shitake Pie, which came with – you guessed it – different types of mushrooms as well as caramelized onions and two types of cheeses. Additionally, they also drizzle truffle oil on top. From my recollection, the unbelievably orgasmic flavor of truffle oil didn’t come through as much on this pizza since a lot was going on on it already. I won’t lie: It was a greasy mess. BUT the pizza was pretty flavorful, though subtle in terms of its truffle accent. I would definitely order this again, though probably when I feel like being naughty. The local beers were excellent, one derived from Abingdon, Virginia’s very own brewery, the Wolf Hills Brewing Co., which has a bar of its own. Anyway, Bristol doesn’t seem to have too many mom and pops, from what I saw, but it has a fair share of chains, especially near the hotels. Mellow Mushroom isn’t grouped with other recognizable names, but it is conveniently located off a main road. Not hard to find at all. Next time, I’m in the area and needing a bite, I’ll definitely drop by Mellow Mushroom.

Great Gluten Free Pizza. Loved this place. I was traveling to see a friend and he suggest this place. I was surprised that they had gluten free pizza. Its hard to find. Wow it as so good. The service was awesome. We heard a lot of singing outside. I will stop by again if back in that area. It’s a must.
