King George II Inn

We have been going to King George for years now great food great service super nice people service always great. And the new owners are fabulous they have done a marvelous job with keeping up with the great reputation of King George! Give this historic Inn a try you won’t be sorry. Oh yes and I must also mention the great ambiance and décor of this old historic building and the great veiw of the river. The spirit of the colonial times are alive and well in this building so if you are spiritual who knows you might just meet a ghost.

Thought that from top down this place was terric. From a first server, to a good bartender, to the food itself everything was excellent. Cute bar, lots of dining, great outdoor spot in the nice weathet. The food was not run of the mill everything was slightly their own twist and all of it was excellent.

We are fans of KGII, the ambiance, river views, staff, and drinks. Their prices are the same as elsewhere, but we wish they would update their menu. It’s needed.

Enjoyed sitting at bar and eating off the tavern menu. Very friendly and attentive bartender and the owners made us feel very welcome. My wife’s burger was excellent and my cheesesteak very good (though kinda overpriced at $ 14). Piano music also very pleasant. Overall, a very enjoyable experience. Happy hour specials look very appealing so will definitely be back to check it out.

New owners. Nice as could be. But as he bragged about his great food and excellent service we were totally ignored by his bartender. And she seemed annoyed that he was talking to us because he was in her way. Food was okay but the bartender left a bad taste in my mouth. Good luck to the 25^th owner.

If visiting Bristol PA, this is a great place for diner!
Fresh oysters great way to start a night here.

Husband and I were enjoying the waning of a beautiful fall day down by the Delaware and stopped into the Old King George II Inn for drinks on the patio to enjoy the fine weather and river view, We were glad that the landmark was rescued and revived from its closure a few years back. Husband wasn’t looking forward to what I’d planned for dinner and suggested that we order something to eat with the drinks. He selected the French Dip and I the Shrimp Po Boy. I quite liked the overall taste and texture of the beer batter fried shrimp combined with tomatoes, fresh crunchy cole slaw, and remoulade sauce on a nice toasted long roll. [If the owners are reading this, one a suggestion regarding the po’ boy sandwich: there were three or four medium shrimp on the roll, so it was difficult to get shrimp in every bite (especially if a bite pulled the shrimp from the batter, leaving only a piece of batter in the next bite). If I were rethinking this sandwich, I would feature smaller shrimp, but more of them, with a lighter batter.]
Both of our sandwiches were accompanied by French Fries, made from fresh cut potatoes. They were delicious.
We enjoyed our server, who engaged us in pleasant chat in addition to making recommendations for food choices.
Our tab, for one sandwich and one drink each, was close to $ 42 before the tip. Add tip to that and whooo, a wee bit steep for a quick bite… but we realize we were paying for the view and the historical ambiance in addition to the food and beverages.

We dined here on 10÷21÷15, our server Dominick was fantastic. The lobster bisque soup was quite thin in consistency. It used to be so creamy. Rolls were so/so.they used to have these fantastic dill rolls, but I am guessing the new owners got rid of them. The crabcakes $ 35 for two were delicious. My husband had some kind of steak which he said was good. I had rice pudding for dessert which was great. He had the baby chocolate cake which was dry.

First time here. Very impressed! Food and service was excellent! Guy playing guitar was fantastic! Such a nice night out. Will definitely be back!

Nice lunch spot next to the water. We ate inside but saw they had tables outdoors even closer to the water. The inside is old fashioned dark and heavy and the menu is traditional. We kept it simple and split a large Caesar salad ($ 9) and a grilled chipotle chicken sandwich ($ 12). The salad was perfectly dressed with a good garlicky dressing that tasted homemade. The sandwich came on a fresh ciabatta roll and was tasty but a bit on the bland side. There was barely a hint of chipotle despite the name, but our accompanying fries were crisp and hot. The restaurant split our food for us without our needing to ask. All in all a solid find if you happen to be in Bristol.

In the middle of nowhere, you will not expect to have a great experience food experience, but at King George II Inn, the meal was surprisingly excellent! The price is amazing too. We had a party of 12, we were seated in the exclusive dining room with privacy. The service was excellent with the manager checking in on us every so often. There is a great selection of good wine.
Try them! It’s an eye opener.

I love the King George Inn restaurant… but
I’m going to say one thing that needs to be improved immediatly.
The service is sooo slow, especially when eating out on the patio.
Otherwise, it would get 4 stars
Food is DE-​LISH! I love sitting out on the patio watching the boats go by on the river.
Bristol has changed for the better since I was little kid growing up in Croydon.
I drive 50 min. from Buckingham just to eat here.
They have a diverse menu and I haven’t had anything yet that I havn’t liked.
It’s worth the trip to visit the little historic town of Bristol.

Went last week to the King George Inn with a a group of 11. In spite of no reservation, in about 10 minutes we were seated upstairs in a private room — very nice. Our waiter, Dan, was exemplary — he was the ultimate professional; helpful, knowledgeable, patient, attentive and very pleasant. The food was very good, even our picky eaters were pleased. We had a variety of entrees and everything was done skillfully.
We’ll be back (but probably with reservations).
It’s a winner!

I had been to King George II about 15 years ago, and a return trip did not disappoint. Even made a detour with two business colleagues to enjoy a late afternoon meal. Excellent food, and a beautiful setting.

This place and the people who work there are really nice. They have amazing burgers and fries! Wings are pretty good too! It’s in a great location and it’s right by the riverfront.

Great Easter dinner; Bruce, one of the new owners, was cordial and welcoming. The place was packed — there was some delay getting the food out, but the waitress kept us informed. The calamari appetizer was plentiful and delicious. The lobster bisque had no bits of lobster in it though. The bacon wrapped scallops were skimpy — four small ones for $ 15. The filet mignon was perfect, as were the crab cakes. I’d like to try again when then kitchen isn’t in overdrive to feed a full house. Overall, great food, great setting, great staff.

My husband and I went to visit his daughter in Bristol for the weekend and we decided to try out the Inn, very historic and they had a cloak room (weird). Anyhow, we were seated upstairs and we had a lovely view of the Delaware River, the place was busy, but our waitress was prompt and polite and courteous. My husband ordered the braised beef ribs, and I ordered the Chicken Florentine. Both were very delicious. The chicken was not dry at all, very tasty. The braised beef was so tasty and mouthwatering. A unique place to dine for sure.

Ok it is a meal, but really cool location (if you like history). Great view of the river, classic dark wood bar room, attentive staff, interesting menu.
On a business visit to Bristol with a coworker, was walking to another place for lunch and saw this. Mushroom soup to start and crab cake sandwich with old bay fries. Washed it down with a ginger beer.
After the meal one of the new owners came by to check on us.

I love the King George and have been here several times since it re-​opened. I decided this time not to be lazy and actually write an updated review. My family took me here for my birthday. Everyone had been there at least once except my sister and she was really impressed. I made reservations which we had to alter several times and Sam, the host/​manager, was very patient and accommodating. We even arrived late after changing our reservation but our table was still ready and waiting for us. They had a high-​chair ready for my great niece as requested. We were seated at a table upstairs and the view was lovely.
We were a hungry bunch, especially since my family traveled to Bristol from North Jersey. We ordered two different appetizers: Blacked Tuna… AWESOME! Fresh, tender, flavorful and a healthy portion. The plantain chips served with it were excellent. We could have eaten a basket full. Hummus (special appetizer)…Again, awesome appetizer. Large portion, enough for 5 adults to share.
Our server was SUPERB! We had her running but she was on top of it all. Our drinks were refilled frequently and she knew exactly when we need more bread which, by the way, was warm and fresh. All of our salads and entrees were fantastic. I could not even tell you which one was better. From the King George Salad to the Chicken Parmesan, the Grilled Rib-​Eye, the Filet Mignon and the Chicken Saltimbocca, everything was perfect. Of course we each had special requests and substitutions which our server handled with ease. All the food came out exactly as ordered.
We shared a delicious LARGE piece of chocolate mousse cake for my birthday which completed our meal.
My family said they’d like to go back and sit outside in the warmer weather. I know my husband and I will surely be back.

My second visit to Bristol in one week after a few years absence. Mill Street is coming back to life, and the area close to the Delaware River seems to be spearheading the revival. It is great to see a renaissance in this old river city. It has suffered hard times through some neglectful governments and perhaps not so fatherly town elders. Yet, it is hard to keep a good old ville down when it has natural beauty and a real purpose over the centuries.
So it is with the King George II Inn. Originally built to be close to the ferry to Burlington, New Jersey, the only way across this water course for more that 250 years AFTER the ferry was started, the KGII evolved into a restaurant and subsequently an inn. Sitting in the oldest part of the building, the tavern, it is easy to imagine what it was like to be living and traveling in colonial America. The various farmers, businessmen, hucksters, cons, grifters, and cutthroats gathered here to do their business, and wait for the ferry to take them to the colony of West Jersey.
Even today, that historic atmosphere permeates the Inn. Certainly there are ghosts stories aplenty.
I stopped into the Tavern for late lunch, sitting at a small table at the window overlooking the bottom of Mill Street, and the river just beyond. The server (who was as gracious as an owner) greeted me warmly, took my order, and left me to my mental wandering. The Pierogies appeared on a long thin white dish, covered in sautéed onions and fresh chives. A dollop of sour cream occupied one corner. They were lightly fried, potato and cheese. They were pretty good at 6 for $ 9. I knew I was paying for the privilege of location. No complaints.
The Tavern itself was excellently preserved and rehabbed to feel very original. All dark woods, heavy oak tables, and mirrored bar. A perfect place to reenact debates between Patriots and Tories over lagers and locally distilled whiskey.
It is certainly worth a visit and a meal if you are into American history. It is not quite Williamsburg, Va., where the entire community is a historic park and everyone is in costume. Still, with a little imagination it is capable of taking you on quite a trip.
