Martignetti Liquors

This is by far the best liquor store in the Boston area. I was surprised to see that other people felt the prices were high, as I have not seen better prices except maybe at Gary’s Liquors in West Roxbury… and Martignetti’s offers a much better selection of liquors and beers as well (I really can’t comment on wine as I rarely buy). This store is definitely cheaper than Wegmans.
Parking is always super easy and the staff are friendly. In my opinion this is about as good as it gets!

I ordered about $ 1000 worth of beer and spirits here for my wedding weekend. Scott Samost was great to work with, and he was very responsive over e-​mail, which was convenient. Scott got back to me quickly with prices and availability. When the day came, they delivered ahead of schedule and with all the right items and quantities. Afterward, I was able to return the remaining product for a full refund.

Great location along Storrow Drive. Plenty of parking. Staff is friendly and courteous. Good prices, and great wine selection.

If I“m looking to purchase a 12 pack of a craft beer then I’ll go here. They also have a good selection of 6 packs. However, I would love it if they could expand their craft beer selection for individual beers.
I don’t buy hard liquor so I can’t comment on those prices. I also don’t buy wine so I can’t comment on that as well. I can say that there is a large wine selection for people to choose from and someone on hand who can help you with your needs.
Once again though, would love to be able to get some more craft beers here.

Taking a star away due to one experience. Although I am a regular customer, I went in there to grab some empty boxes from the doorway area where they keep them for the trash. The guy there stopped me, and screamed at me as if I was insane to think that was ok. Earth to guy at Martignetti’s: it is a 100% accepted practice with everyone in America that boxes at liquor stores are free. You are insane to not realize this.

Large (sometimes overwhelming) selection of everything. From liquor to wine to beer they seems to have most everything. The wine selection is very large. The staff saw me staring hopeless at the section of wine my lady friend likes and quickly offered to help. Possibly better signage when you first walk in to identify what is where. I ended up walking around a lot.

The manager at this store tried to confiscate my driver’s license (which is out of state) without asking me for back up identification. He was unfailingly rude and treated me like I was a criminal using a false ID because the «state of the art machine» he was using told him the ID had been used 30 minutes prior (I had been in the store once before 2 years ago). When the police were dispatched the ID reader was «magically working». I have never been treated so rudely anywhere in Boston. If you want to be treated kindly without someone on a power trip trying to illegally confiscate your identification, I would avoid this place.

Purchased 7 cases of wine for wedding. Got a fair price and the service was very good. They have A good selection and good attitude! Thanks!

I love the huge parking lot and the huge variety of liquor. Although prices are sometimes higher than some places, the service compensates for it. You can ask anyone there for help and they know their stuff. They’re not rude.
I like looking at their boxes of cheap alcohol. Sometimes you find something great.

I’ve been here a few times. While it might not be as inexpensive as Blanchard’s for a bulk of its goods, it’s a lot easier to get in and out of. The selection is pretty decent, although not as impressive as Blanchard’s (especially for the higher end stuff).

I’ve been price checking because who wants to pay more than they need to on liquor and boy those prices are sky high!!!
A bottle of Chopin vodka is $ 36, whereas Brookline I found it for $ 20, same style and same volume. Don’t want to talk about the tequila because that stuff is a mile high from where I’ve seen it. Blanchard’s is a far better deal.
At these prices I sure wouldn’t be able to afford to drink at all.

Great selection if liquor! Love that there is always someone to help you answer all of your questions before you buy the right wine or champagne. The staff is really knowledgable but hate that the people that check you out seem so unhappy with there life.

If you can only go to one liquor store, let it be this one. The largest selection of wine in the area, a great selection of beer (which also has the signs on the rows saying «Germany» «Czechoslovakia» etc., like the wine!), all the mixers and arcane liquors for your cocktails, and even a few handy high-​end italian groceries if you need to put a meal together too. Friendly, knowledgeable staff, good prices.

Impressive selection of everything glorious. Their extensive selection includes ciders and beers like He’Brew.
If you have trouble finding something, the staff is more than willing to help.
There i more wine than I know what to do with, but there is also a clearance rack, and for some of us, that is all that really matters.
Easy to find, but no nearby T. I guess one needs a car anyway to shlep all the treasures.

I drive in heading eastbound on Soldier’s Field Road.
I park on the far door coz it’s an entrance AND an exit = shorter trip to car when I have an armload of boxed wine and 12– or 24-​packs of beer. The store is big. But I don’t understand how to return a cart without having to awkwardly walk past the cashiers AGAIN to exit. whuh whuhh…
I aim to the right of the store where the boxed wine (and other good wine) is located, grabbing a cart on my way. Whiskey and bourbon on the far right wall. Refrigerated beer also to the right, back wall. BIG refrigerated or unrefrigerated beers are to the far left. Chilled wines straight back.
Prices are comparable to places… I really only come here for wine and beer, but I don’t LOVE the beer selection. If they sold Harpoon Rye IPA and more Brooklyn, I would definitely stop by more often. Their selection appeals to the general mass and perhaps not so much the beer lover.

The sommelier here is just the bomb! She is smart and more right than just about anyone I know– which is scary.
Everyone here is so helpful — say you need something and they’ll likely drop everything and go do it!
Weirdly, I have gotten some if the best packaged Italian foods like pasta HERE and a way better price than at the north end. I know… weird but true.

Hard to imagine a better wine store than Martignetti – and really hard to take seriously anyone who gives it less than four stars. (Because you once bought a bad bottle there? That’s just silly, no wine store could guarantee that all bottles are uncorked.) I don’t know enough about beer and hard liquor, so I can’t review those aspects of the store, but for wine it is truly amazing.
Why?
First because it is huge and has a fantastic selection of wines. It is a distributor and so is on a different level from some of the otherwise fine stores in the area, say the Wine Cask, or Fresh Pond, or Gordon’s. You might find some niches where it is relatively weak (maybe more Eastern European or New York), but for everything except the really obscure you are going to find lots of options. I’m a big fan of Alsatian and German rieslings, for example, and I don’t think there’s any other store in the Boston area that comes close to their selection in these areas.
Second, the prices are good, usually10−20% below the average Boston-​Cambridge wine store. And that’s not counting the bin ends specials, which can be fantastic – beautiful bottles marked down as much as 50% because of imperfections on the label or they just want to get rid of old stock.
Third, the staff are not in your face, but if you have questions they never fail to be helpful. They are knowledgeable wine drinkers, and can usually tell you how, say, some of their 2010 Bordeaux are currently drinking, or which bottles might be able to age well. As another review noted, there seems to be little turnover among the staff, which I take to be a very good sign about the place.
It’s a little bit out of the way, on Soldier’s Field Road, but there’s a big parking lot and it’s a nice drive along the Charles.
What more do you need, wine drinkers of Boston?

Martignetti’s is a solid liquor store and the prices are about average for the area. I recently started drinking a Belgium brand of beer called Lambic. This place has several flavors — Framboise, Pomme, Cassis, Peche, Black Cherry — and more than another place I go to in Newton. The price is the same as most places (about $ 12.95 but they always have it stocked. Their wine selection is also awesome. My husband and I like a good Riesling and I stopped in here for an anniversary present for the big guy. They gave me a great recommendation and I bought it. The gentleman also recommended another type of wine that was similar to a Riesling but way cheaper (under $ 5) and it was also delicious. They are really knowledgeable without being pushy.

I love the bin ends. I love that I can usually find bottles of wine that are tasty enough for $ 3 – 6 in these bins (they’re discount bins, so the wine starts higher). I also love that, if I’m really wanting to splurge, I can find $ 100 bottles of wine in the Bin Ends section for $ 40-​$ 50.
I love that they have gourmet cheese. Gouda with bacon? Yes, please! Spicy buffalo cheese? (Well, ew, actually, but my boyfriend likes it.) I love that I can buy mozzarella wrapped around prosciutto. I love that no one judges me when I buy five bottles of wine at once. (What? I don’t have time to go every day!)
I love the beer selection, because it encourages me to try things that I otherwise might not. And I love that there is always something delicious on sale — whether it’s wine, hard liquor, or beer, I can always find exactly what I’m looking for, and it’s always a good deal.
I also appreciate that I can take my bottles in and recycle them even though, at 5 cents per bottle, I’m not actually making much of a profit. I just took in a year’s worth of bottles and got $ 1.15 or something. Hmmm… I may need to drink more beer. Anyway, they’re also really nice if the machine can’t read the bottles because you’re three seasons beyond when they sold it or you stupidly picked half the label off. So that is also good. I buy nearly all of my alcohol at Martingnetti’s. I love it.

This place is great for all your liquor needs. It’s a huge store with a wide variety of selections for beer, wine, and liquor. In comparison to other stores in the area, their prices are very reasonable. The service is fast too. I was there the day before Thanksgiving, along with a ton of other people, and they had the lines moving… in and out in no time.
Most days they’ll have tastings there as well.
