We are an automotive repair shop that specializes in complete mechanical repair for BMW, Porsche, and Mini vehicles. When you come to German Performance you’ll meet and deal with our employees who have experience in restoration, mechanical repair, performance tuning, and motorsports. Business owner Marc Feinstein served as the race engineer for 2010 American Lemans GTC class champions, Blackswan Racing, his 6th pro racing championship as an engineer since 2003.

History

Established in 2006.

The idea was simple, people in Boston needed a local independent service center for their BMW and Porsche, and that was all it took. After 15 years of working for other German auto repair shops, owner Marc Feinstein, a local resident, opened German Performance Service. Today, we strive to provide the highest quality repair for your German car using the highest quality parts, with tools and equipment usually reserved only for dealerships.

Prior to opening GPS in 2006, Marc spent more than six years as Crew Chief and Race Engineer for Turner Motorsport, winning multiple championships. During his tenure, TMS became America’s leading BMW race team, winning championships in 2003, 2004, 2006, and 2007. Since opening GPS, Marc has been involved in the service operation daily. He continues to spend time working on cars, from oil changes to engine or differential rebuilds. Marc’s specialty is diagnosing uncommon, difficult and insolvable problems. Marc’s cars include Porsche 356 and 911, and a BMW 2002 race car.

Truly a great shop for German cars! My BMW started shaking pretty bad one day on a highway and upon doing some research, I decided to give GPS a try as I have just moved to Boston recently. I was a little bit worried first because based on the internet there were several possible reasons for the problem and some options could be pretty pricey. But the staff there was extremely helpful and knowledgeable and fixed the problem pretty quick with a very reasonable price. Definitely NOT one of those shops that try to rip people off!

I hesitate to write this review because once word gets around it is going to impossible to get my car into GPS! Marc and his team are performance car enthusiasts. They are knowledgable, practical and reasonably priced. As importantly, they are genuinely honest and nice people. I really enjoy bringing my car in to catch up and see what projects they are working on. I won’t let anyone else touch my ’89 911.

I stopped in with a diagnosis of a dead battery from the dealership, the replacement of which GPS quoted me at a far lower price. Ultimately, and only because of a much more thorough and thoughtful diagnosis process at GPS than at the dealer, it became clear that a new battery was not at all the answer. We’re only halfway through, but I can tell already they’re the go-​to place from now on.

I love these guys. I had been taking my 2007 R56 Mini Cooper S to the dealership, which I know is overpriced, but I didn’t want to risk an unknown mechanic. When I finally started hitting the first round of major replacements (water pump etc) and was quoted at a couple thousand by the dealer, I decided to shop around. These guys are really the only shop that seemed reputable enough to risk it and I’m so pleased that I did!
As with basically any shop, the prices were much better than the dealer, and I actually think the service was much better. They gave me a more detailed explanation of each of my issues, and they were very thorough in the repairs. There are not as many cushy fringe benefits as the dealer, this is definitely a smaller shop, but I think the much better service for my car is worth it.

Excellent shop!!! The staff (esp. Rob, but everyone else who I worked with) are very knowledgeable (IMHO) had were extremely helpful each time I spoke with them.
I bought a used 330xi in manual and the clutch went a few weeks after I bought it. The car was covered under an extended warranty, so I brought it to Herb Chambers to have it looked at and was told that I needed a new clutch and flywheel to the tune of around $ 3k, and that it wasn’t covered by the warranty. On the recommendation of a friend, I took it to GPS for a second opinion and told that only the clutch needed to be replaced, which they could do about a third of the cost. They fixed the clutch and I have since put about 20k miles on the car w/​o any trouble. I’ve since brought the car in for various maintenance tasks and each found them very honest and reasonable, which is hard to come by.
I since moved out of state and was looking for an opinion on new tires for my car. I decided to call GPS on the off-​chance that I could get their opinion even though I wasn’t going to go through them. Rob was very generous with his time, not only going through the details of different tire options but also offering to review auto shops in my area to help me find a new place to bring my car.
Overall, I was very impressed at how honest Rob and others at GPS are and at how reasonable their prices are. I would definitely recommend this to anyone who is looking for somewhere in the area to take their BMW (or other German car).

We couldn’t be more pleased with our experience at German Performance Service. After dealing with what we believed to be a dead battery, and then after failed attempts to jump start the car, what we believed to be a malfunctioning starter or alternator, we had our car towed to GPS after business hours. They called the next morning to say that the engine only required a new connection to the starter, a part that cost $ 40. They billed for one hour of service, the replacement part and a replacement tail light bulb, which they noticed was out. They also fully charged up the battery and topped off the oil without any charge and without our request. They offer a complete service offering, and we couldn’t be more impressed with their integrity and ability to have the car repaired so quickly. This will be our dedicated service provider in the future.

Awesome experience here. Brought in my 5 series with a sporadic issue that I was certain was going to cost me an arm and a leg.
Rob was honest and broke everything down for me. He suggested it was time to let the car go. The cost of the repair would have been too much and foolish to do.
Now I’m sitting pretty in a spiffy new 4series with no complaints — so thanks Rob for your honesty and candor.
Hopefully we don’t have to meet again anytime soon but if I do have ANY BMW issue ever I will always come here.

This is a professional and integrity-​driven shop. I spoke with Marc and he gave me over the phone advice that saved me quite a bit of money. We are new to the area and having a BMW shop that is incredibly knowledgeable and skilled to deal with is so reassuring. I will always come here for my BMW repair needs… so glad GPS is here in the area. Makes it nice when a team is knowledgable, honest and approachable without the pressure and hard sell of the dealership. Don’t hesitate. These guys are the real deal.

I couldn’t recommend GPS more highly. These guys race BMWs and Porsches and understand these cars and most importantly what fails and why inside and out. My experience over several years now is that they are able to diagnose and repair cars faster and better than any BMW dealer I ever went to. They get the repair right the first time. They do the work that needs to be done, but not more.
The owner Marc is fair, responsive, and resourceful. His excellent diagnostic skills/​test drives of my car have helped to identify problems before they became significant. In addition he has hired a front desk advisor (Rob) who is a pleasure to work with and also very knowledgeable and good at diagnosis. On numerous occasions/​problems (ABS controller replacement, power front seat rebuilds) Marc has found ways to either find less expensive parts or solutions at costs well below what might have been offered by a dealer (if the dealer would be able to execute the repair is another question). All other work (brakes, suspension, etc.) is priced fairly. All of Marc’s technicians seem to be super-​knowledgeable, helpful, and enjoy what they do.
I’ve recommended GPS to several friends and neighbors. Each has been pleased with the results they’ve received. I’m very fussy, belong to the BMW car club, etc. I’m convinced that my listening to Mark and working with him has resulted in my current 2002 530 lasting longer than otherwise might have been the case. I plan to continue using GPS for as long as I drive BMWs and GPS remains in business.

My radiator hose blew this morning on my way to work. I called German Performance Service to see if they might have one, as the other two locations I tried did not. He ordered it for me over the phone, and had it delivered within two hours, and at a great price. A life saver for sure!

My engine overheated and when trying to figure out where to send my car, I called around and talked to GPS. They told me that they were pretty busy, and probably couldn’t see it for 4 business days. I asked if they could recommend anyone else, they gave me a number for another shop. I called that shop, they were kind of jerks and were far, and when I asked shop 2 for a recomendation, they told me they don’t do that (unlike the guys at GPS who were just trying to help me out).
I decided a wait was worth taking it to GPS. Turns out the damage was pretty bad, and after a little phone tag, they gave me their assesment free of charge that it’d cost too much to fix. These guys are very honest and I’m inclined to get a Mini or a BMW as a replacement car solely because I’ve found a mechanic I can trust.

Took my Mini to GPS to get an oil leak fixed. The correct repair was made promptly for a reasonable charge. Mini’s are highly complex autos that are difficult to service and GPS is up to the task. The only real alternative, the dealers, simply cannot match GPS. They also noticed a couple of side issues and dealt with them. A holistic approach to my car’s health? Nice! If your Mini is out of its warranty period, GPS are your service guys.

Can’t recommend Marc highly enough. Scheduled a battery replacement and on the way to his shop my 08 m5 went nuts, throwing a ton of warnings. Assumed (more like hoped) it was something to do with the battery. Marc very quickly knew better — and found water in the trunk which had trashed a few control boxes. (Car had been at BMW 2 weeks before– they recommended the new battery but where oblivious to the water)
He and his team where great and sorted through the issue, even staying late on a Friday so I’d have a car on the weekend.

I was told about Marc’s shop from a mutual friend. Marc used to work at a shop in Fla. that did a bunch of service on my trash can, ’73 BMW Bavaria. Since my ’07 MINI S is no longer under warranty, I took it to Marc to have the brakes checked and repaired. He replaced the rear rotors and pads for a price that I don’t think I could have matched anywhere, outside of doing it myself. The best part was he did it in what seemed like record time.
Having been in the automotive field for 30 years, one thing that I was impressed with, is the cleanliness of his shop. That makes a world of difference to me.

To begin, I am a car nut. I own an M3 and I am into modifications, racing, etc. I know every single part and piece for my car. Whenever I have an issue from general maintenance, a part question or any work to be done, I only trust GPS with my ride.
Rest assured that the folks at GPS know their stuff whether its a BMW or Porsche.
