In writing this review, I feel like I am an addict going to my first«meeting». Hi, my name is Renee, and I love donuts. Coming from an East Coast upbringing, raised on Dunkin’(East Coast Dunkin’, not the crap here), I am skeptical of the mom and pop donut shops and the lack of consistency you usually find there. I was also forced to deal with the leavened crap that is Krispy Kreme for 7 years in the south, so I am a picky girl when it comes to a defining what is a good, plain glazed donut. One Sunday morning I needed a glazed fix so bad my hands were shaking, I found Lamar’s…now Ray’s. I honestly, don’t care what it’s called, but this place makes a mean donut. Their glazed donuts are so fluffy and doughy, they seem almost slightly underdone, which is a good thing. While I almost always stick to my usual order, I have tried the longjohns and addition to be huge(insert your own joke here), they are fantastic. Dunked in coffee, they are pure joy in your mouth. The staff there is very friendly and I am in and out quickly. My only complaint is that on the weekends, the selection tends to be limited by 9 – 9:30, which is a bit too early to be running out of several varieties. Late risers need love too.

Maybe it was«Lamars» but now it is «ray’s.» Clean, well run and put together. Small enough yet big enough. Decent cup of coffees and the place smelled amazing.

I Love Lamar’s Donuts! Its in a convenient location. I always end up stopping by on Saturday morning on my way to hair salon. They always have a plethora of donuts to choose from. I usually stick with the glaze or sprinkle. They are also reasonably priced at 96cents. Can’t complain about that!

I love this place! I can’t believe I haven’t written a review yet. Their donuts are VERY good and very filling. Even their cake donuts are delish, and I’m not usually a huge fan of those. Now they’ve expanded their hours for the summer(open till 9pm Sun-Thurs and 10pm on Fri-Sat!) and they serve Serendipity Ice Cream! Sweetness. Literally.

You could filet these donuts and feed a small family. That’s seriously how big they are. Not only are they big, they are somehow… meaty? I mean, you really get a good mouthful of donut when you bite into this thing. It’s hard to describe, but you have to try these things. The place is almost always packed, and there’s a good reason for that, like I said, the donuts are huge. Not only are they huge, they are delicious. They are sugary and cakey and just the way that a donut should be made. Also, the service is pretty spectacular considering how packed it usually is. I am a huge fan of old fashioned donuts and they make a killer one here. I have never had trouble getting the type of donut I wanted here, the selection is wide, and they are cheap. I think each donut is only about 69 cents each. Stop by in the morning and get a box to bring into work and see how much everyone loves you. I have done this before and trust me, buying your boss’s and coworkers’ affection through sugar and fat almost always works. Oh, and just incase you weren’t totally sure what kind of donut you wanted… they do have some free samples… that’s something I have never seen in a donut shop… God love Lamar’s.

LaMar’s Donuts is a nice little place to stop by and get some donuts in the morning. I stopped by there the other day when I had the joy of being without power after a storm, so not wanting to open the refrigerator and let any cold air out, I thought that was a good enough excuse to go out in the morning and get donuts and coffee, so I did. I went inside and it was pretty packed. I assumed that many people probably had the same idea and then of course, there were the people who always go there. Well anyways, I had to wait just a little bit to get my donuts and coffee because they had to make a new batch of coffee because they were all out. That did not bother me at all because I knew I was about to get a nice fresh cup, the donuts and large and tasty too. The coffee was nice and since I had it freshly brewed it was piping hot. The large donuts were nice. When you bit into them they actually had substance. They are not like those where you bite into them and they sort of dissolve into nothing like some kind of mutant cotton candy bread. LaMar’s Donuts is a great little donut should that I am glad that I stopped by.

I know, I know, you’re getting tired of my 5-star reviews for things in Missouri. Hey, a girl needs to get excited about moving to the Lou from Chi-town, okay? So. It’s a Friday morning. Justin and I are hungry. Justin and I like donuts. I think I spied an add for LaMar’s in Sauce Magazine or some such and thought it would be a great way to start a sugar-buzzed day. As per usual when it comes to sugar-buzzed-ness, I was correct! LaMar’s has some fantastic donuts and some incredibly friendly service. We were warmly welcomed with hellos and samples of very yummy strawberry cake donuts. A sample wasn’t quite enough for Justin, so he got a whole one for himself and a sugar donut as well. I ordered blueberry cake and old-fashioned glazed sour cream donuts. The feasting commenced and while we couldn’t finish our treats, they certainly were fresh and delicious. The Dazbog coffee was great and the fella at the counter brought samples of an icy, chocolaty, coffee concoction to all the folks in the store(well, except for the tiny tots gorging themselves on sprinkle donuts and seriously large long johns – they were hyper enough already). I will be back to indulge in one of their enormous apple fritters(they’re like the size of elephant ears!) on my next trip to the STL. Yum!
