John Muir Behavioral Health Center

This review actually has nothing to do with a doctor in this office but more about how they (the staff ie Tanya and another girl I forgot her name) handle medical needs and new patients. The first available appointment for new patients was 4 weeks away. Now, I developed step throat and I’ve called 4 times to try to get seen earlier because I cannot afford to miss work. They could not see me. I asked to be put on a waiting list and they said yes. When I asked if they had my info they said no… how can they call me if they don’t have my info. She was giving me the run around. I developed a low grade fever and have had it for three weeks (my appointment is next Tuesday) but they still can not see me. I just discovered a very dark textured spot on my skin and they still can not see me any earlier. Now, they have urgent care but my medical ins bills 100% against my deductible and I cannot afford a $ 250 office visit. Besides, why am I paying for medical insurance if it does not cover my needs. My point, they (2400 Balfour road) could care less if I was dead.
When I had kaiser (for the last 7 years) I could get a telephone appointment and get medicine within that same day. They don’t do anything like that. They just keep telling me no, no, no… we can’t help you. How is this patient care??? I don’t care if I am new, I’m a human and medical practice should carry a certain sense of responsibility to care for individuals. I’m a paying customer and I feel like I don’t matter.

I’m a few days away from my overdue appointment. The office (for the second time) calls my emergency contact to change my appointment without even notifying me… the patient. Why would one call an emergency contact as the primary contact??? I had to change my day off (my emergency contact scheduled the first available appointment) to accommodate the doctors schedule otherwise my appointment would have been in May. That would have been upwards of 50 days to get an appointment for a new patient. I told the doctors office that I don’t care which doctor they give me, I’ll take the doctor that has the most availability. This has gotten beyond bad. Almost comical. Maybe they saw this review and decided to punish me?

Even after being forced to accep medication (otherwise they won’t release my kid)

I’m not one to write negative reviews often, but the last few months have been so frustrating that I feel a review is necessary.
For the past three months I’ve been dealing with two separate but related medical conditions, one more severe than the other. My primary doctor, although usually very helpful, treated me for one condition, hoping it would also take care of the second condition. After going back repeatedly in the last three months after finding no relief for either, my doctor repeatedly ignored the second condition and continued to prescribe me the same or similar medication for the first condition, even though they had already been ineffective in the past. All the while I was not given any good reasons as to why I was having any recurring problems, nor was I ever given the idea to see a specialist about the issue. During this time I also experienced the frustration of prescriptions not being called in in a timely fashion or not being called in at all.
After three months of constant pain, irritation, and frustration, I finally called a specialist myself and finally found some sense of relief. It was finally acknowledged that the two conditions were separate and needed to be treated separately. I was also given a different, more thorough treatment régime of medication that actually worked. The second condition is still being treated, but at least someone has finally recognized the issue and has given me a formal diagnosis as to what it was.
I will say here that I don’t know if this is a reflection of John Muir Outpatient as a whole, but I do know that I will be switching doctors.

The care received from the medical staff was very good.
The business office was another story altogether.
If you can get lucky enough to find someone to help you with your insurance coverages who is knowledgeable and friendly, then good luck. I was given the run around until I had heard all that I could stand. not at all impressed.
