Latchis Hotel

The Latchis is a vaguely deco style hotel built in the 30s. My room was quite nice in a classic older hotel way, quiet, and very comfortable. In room coffee came with half and half and complimentary water in the refrigerator. I hadn’t planned to spend the night in Brattleboro and really appreciated the complimentary toothbrush and toothpaste.
Brattleboro is apparently a tourist town so there are rather a lot of bars and restaurants. They are all a short walk from the hotel.
Latchis has an old theater which is part of the hotel. It would be fun to time a visit to see a movie or live show there.

Brattleboro is an interesting town, filled with stores and restaurants. The rooms are furnished in the Shaker style. The architecture is Art Deco, and it goes back to the Big Band era, such as Count Basie, Benny Goodman, Duke Ellington, and Glenn Miller.

the latchis is a sweet hotel, nice beds, great staff, and clean… yes there are a few wonky features; it takes a long time to get hot water… but overall a great place. The staff was wonderful. there are white noise machines for free to cancel out the (ever present) street noise… but i would definately stay there again

As they say location location location! And that is the only reason why we stay here, cause it’s the only game in town. Its clean and does the job but don’t plan on getting zzzzzzs cause the beds is like sleeping on a concrete slab.

I stayed here the other day and had an absolutely wonderful, magical experience.
Brattleboro is a fantastic little town with excellent small businesses — quirky shops, great restaurants, cool bars, local art, etc — and the Latchis is situated within walking distance. It is located next to a beautiful river, surrounded by old buildings (mills perhaps) with a walking bridge adjacent to the parking lot.
The hotel itself is a wonderful piece of Art Deco and it felt like stepping back into the 30’s while walking the halls. The rooms are excellent — good size, very clean, and contain many amenities, including a hairdryer, iron, flatscreen tv, etc. I was there in early winter and the heat was cranked when I came in. It was easy to control and I closed the valve which made the room comfortable in short order. The staff was friendly and a free breakfast was provided downstairs.
In addition to the high quality of the hotel basics, the overall vibe felt very magical when I was there. I got there at night, checked in, and went out for a drink. When I came back, the front desk had closed and the halls were empty. They had speakers throughout the place, softly playing Christmas music (which generally I would find annoying, but this had a wonderful and magical quality about it) which echoed throughout the halls. I wandered around and explored a bit, completely entranced with the place, the history, décor, and the overall feel of it. I absolutely loved it.
I didn’t attend the movie theater but I love that it’s included in the building. It has a very old timey, 1930’s feel, and there was some memorabilia, such as film reels, decorating the place.
As I was checking out, someone who I believe was a manager came and asked how my stay was. He was very friendly and open to answering questions about the history of the place. I felt he genuinely loved the hotel and cared about the quality of my stay.
So, in short, this is one of the most wonderful hotel experiences I’ve ever had. Perhaps my all-​time favorite. I cannot recommend it highly enough.

The Latchis is a pretty cool hotel in downtown Brattleboro. It’s definitely not a high end place but it’s a good and affordable hotel if you want to stay downtown.
As for the rooms, they are simple and adequate. Overall they are a little dated and the bathrooms could use a major overhaul, but it’s not bad for a one night stay. Unfortunately there wasn’t individual AC control for the rooms so we were at the mercy of the central system. Luckily it was a cool night so we opened the windows.
As for parking they had a private lot down the street which was very helpful considering parking rules seem to be strict downtown.
Overall this isn’t a fancy hotel, but it was clean, the staff was nice, and it is in a great location. It also has some unique charm to it.

Book at your own risk, I’m a professor and we reserved 4 rooms for a trip taking our senior college students July 31^st and got a call from the manager in late August (after everything else was booked) saying that he needed to cancel our reservation for another party – the email confirming our four rooms, which I still have on file, meant nothing.

Love love loved this hotel! This hotel was smack in the middle of town. With a sensational view of the water way, nearby mountain and bridge to New Hampshire. The Art Deco style was really fun! The room was comfortable, very clean, renovated, with air conditioning, two very comfortable beds and a lovely 1920 s bathroom ! The women at the front desk were extremely helpful! They gave us tips on where to visit and where to eat. If staying in Brattleboro and you are interested in staying in town, definitely check out The zakat his Hotel. Be sure to ask for a room with a mountain view.

I have one word to sum up the «newly restored» Latches Hotel… BEAUTIFUL! Most area’s of the hotel have been re-​designed, freshly painted and upgraded! I spent a night there recently and was impressed. The front desk staff was friendly and helpful. My room was clean and «fresh»! The only downfall was my room was a bit warm. I’m thrilled that the «charm» was kept thru renovations! I’ll be back!

I have stayed at this wonderful hotel almost every time I have had the good fortune of being able to get away to Brattleboro. This last time we went with one of the package deals and it was worth every cent. We had the king room with a mountain and river view and it was breathtaking. To look out every morning and see mother nature in all her glory melted the stress right off of us. The room was neat and clean, with nice artwork on the wall. The staff, of course, was more than helpful (one fellow even gave up his parking space so we wouldn’t have to use the pay lot next door, very nice of him!) We recieved two free movie passes as part of the deal, which was great because we saw Thor 2 (the theater was jam packed and the aroma of popcorn permeated the entire building, which was awesome.) We also received a 50.00 gift certificate to The Marina restaurant and had a great lunch there.
in short, do yourself a favor and stay here. The breakfast is included, and while it is no frills, it’s still a great way to start your day and the coffee is great! I will not stay at any other hotel in Brattleboro.

We stayed one night in August in this lovely, stately, art deco hotel. It’s a one-​of-​a-​kind building in the best sense of the term. It was clean and tastefully decorated with beautiful granite touches throughout, including in our room (and one would assume, in all the rooms). The breakfast was included and, though basic, was just fine: breads, pastries, packaged oatmeal; choice of PB, butter, jams as spreads; coffee, tea, and a few different juices. Staff was friendly and helpful. Great location — within walking distance of several restaurants, and an excellent coffee shop with yummy pastries. Parking is a short walk behind the building. Would definitely stay again.

Stayed again in mid-​March. Still not disappointed! They weren’t offering the Pub package again when I booked as the Flat St Brewpub was pretty decimated by the floods after Hurricane Irene last summer. Check out the cleanup effort pictures on the window of the Indian store next to the Brewpub entrance!

Best thing about this hotel is that it’s an easy one block from the Amtrak station.
That being said, it’s a no-​frills motel. The staff were all very nice, and rooms were
clean enough if you squint.
If you just need a place to rest your head at the end of the day, and don’t need an extravagant breakfast (or any other B&B perk for that matter), then should be a fine option if you score a discounted rate online.

I would give the Latchis 4 stars, but it does need a little updating. Its an antique and it’s charming for that reason. The renovation just isn’t quite there yet. Not to say it’s a dump; it just needs a good decorator and maybe a fresh coat of paint.

It’s an old building, the rooms are small, the TV small and the wireless slow, but it’s the only hotel downtown and for around $ 88 a night it was fine for me even though my windows overlooked an evil looking alley.
There’s a movie theater attached through the lobby, it wasn’t very crowded and it was comfortable, I enojyed watching the film.
Another reviewer mentioned the Brew Pub. I had dinner there two nights and hung out at the bar. Very friendly local people and soon we were all talking and I was finding out about small town life in Brattleboro — sounded good except for everybody knowing everybodies business.
Front desk folks were all very nice and helpful, they made good recommendations for restaurants and things to do in the area.
The lobby was small, but looked cozy and intimate with old style decorations, it’s where the morning complimentary breakfast is served.
It wasn’t as comfortable as a modern hotel, but my grandparents would have thought of it as luxury and it was more important to me to be able to walk out the door of the hotel and be right on the main street with everything in walking distance. I was told that this is the only hotel in the downtown area, all the rest require a drive or a longish walk.
They have complimentry parking a block away, but the lot is small and in high season I was told that some guests must find a spot on the street. Finding the lot is also a little tricky, the street comes up very fast and next thing you know you’ve passed it. didn’t help that when I was there the main street was under major street construction and there were orange cones and backups right in front of the hotel.

Definitely convenient and it’s been updated in some ways. In other ways, not so much. The staff are very friendly, and it’s dead center in town, but I don’t think I’d pay $ 154 again.

Friendly staff, pricey rooms with no air conditioning controls in the room. We opened the windows to get some air, but not all of the old windows open. Plus they were filthy. The full beds had footboards on them that prevented me from stretching out. Lots of traffic noise during the day, but awesome downtown location. We did not try the breakfast. I highly suggest you take advantage of their package deals – excellent value.

Cozy and quaint. Retro feel with comfortable rooms. The «dine and recline» package is a great deal. $ 150 gets you a room, 2 movie tickets, and a $ 50 gift certificate to the Adagio Tratoria restaurant. The movie theatre is downstairs and is a treat in itself. We often go for a weekend get-​a-​way in the winter and you don’t have to leave the building for the movie theatre or for an after movie drink or snack at one of the two restaurants in the building. The building has had extensive renovations, but has maintained it’s old New England charm. The bathtubs are the biggest I’ve ever seen, but the showers have those terrible water saver heads that offer more of a stinking spray then relaxing shower, so go for the bath.
The location in downtown Brattleboro with its Main Street of great little shops and restaurants also makes it the perfect base camp for exploring the town.

Great things about the Latchis: It’s on Main Street, it’s next to the food co-​op, it’s across the street from that delicious Korean restaurant, it’s not wildly expensive.
Not great things about the Latchis: It’s basic (especially the «breakfast» they serve) and the cheaper rooms can be really depressing (I’m pretty sure we once stayed in a room that looked out onto a brick wall).

Nice little place. It definitely feels like it’s still being restored, but it was clean, the water was hot, the AC worked-​what more do you want?
Of course, being a man who is vertically gifted, I have to give them credit for a high showerhead, but take away those same points for putting footboards on a twin bed.
Footboards discriminate against tall people! Take a stand!
