Michael’s Place

You know what I really like when I come in to this salon? How clean it was all over the salon. The place was kind of packed with alot of customers. I only had to wait a few minutes till i was seated in their comfy chairs! I love the service here they really are friendly and my pedicure was so relaxing. I really recommend everybody to stop by Michael’s Place.

Amazzzzzzing spa pedicure! Massage, exfoliant, more massage, hot stones, paraffin, all in a comfy massage chair. Worth every penny!

Oh my God, this place is awesome. I was surprised because this place is inside South Shore Mall. However, everything in this nail salon was much better than I expected. They had great chairs, great decoration. Their staff were friendly and professional. Their price was really reasonable. The only thing seemed to be the problem was that they always busy. Whenever I need to take care my nails I always need to set a appointment in advance. But whatever it is, this place is an awesome nail salon. Definitely, I will be back.

So I only went here because I ate and Chipotle next door and didn’t feel like driving to my normal place. BIG MISTAKE!
I asked for a manicure and pedicure. I had trouble picking a color and asked my manicurist some questions and I quickly found out she spoke no English. If you are doing a service for me I would like to be able to communicate with you.
She started my pedicure and next thing I know I was screaming in pain! And BLEEDING!! Needless to say I’m going to skip the manicure and head to my normal salon.
She needs a lesson in cutting cuticles.

They are extremely overpriced. I wanted a coffin shape and the technician Julia said that I would need a new acrylic set to accomplish this shape. Funny because it’s been done at other salons. Then I showed her designs and she said that it would take an entire day and probably the need to come back the next day to finish. The manager came over and said they could do it in an hour. I got the impression she didn’t want to spend more time than she had to. Then my paint job looks horrible. My nails are lumpy and the paint looks bad on the edges of my nails close to cuticle. Either she didn’t fill properly or she just did a bad paint job. In any event I will not be returning.

I’m pretty mortified. I was just here for a brow wax– I came back to Michael’s place because I had a really great experience with a pedicure here. I’m left with next to no eyebrows.
I really enjoy the service here the first time, extremely friendly and personable, which is why I am hesitant to leave such a poor review. The first thing that really bothers me about this salon is how they literally BLAST music on a bluetooth speaker right in the doorway. The the receptionist could barely hear me, and I hate having to scream over a stereo (playing explicit music, might I add). I wouldn’t be happy if I was a surrounding business or passerby.
The brow wax is what left me literally crying. She walked me into the room in the back and before she started the actual wax, started to trim (with what I assume was a small scissors). This made me anxious because I could feel her trimming A LOT and I know my brows didn’t need that much maintenance. When she applied the wax, I noticed it was way hotter than I’ve ever had in a brow wax, but tolerable. After the wax portion, she started trimming and plucking. When she was done she just said «OK» and never showed me a mirror (side note: I’ve been getting my eyebrows waxed since I was 14 and I’ve been shown a mirror every single time). I thought that was really odd, but kind of shrugged it off. I got to my car and saw the result in my rearview mirror, which explains why she didn’t show me a handheld mirror while there. My eyebrows are literally almost gone. I’m LIVID and there is no refund that can fix my hacked eyebrows. My brows look like Pamela Anderson’s circa 2002. I’m going to have to pencil them in every day until they grow back which REALLY upsets me because my daily makeup routine is really minimal and natural.
I’m so sad that I have to leave such a poor review.

All nail services: Amazing.
Brows: If I wanted them practically shaved off I could have done it free and blamed myself.

terrible. they yell at you and don’t even know how to do your nails. please I’m never coming here again. people listen rude and can’t do work. come on now.

Rude and inconsiderate. In the middle of my manicure after just one hand had been filed, a woman came in and was in a hurry. The manager who was doing my manicure stopped and gave me a hot wax treatment for «free» so she could do the walk in who was in a hurry. It wasn’t like I was ready for polish, it was literally mid manicure and against my wishes. The wax burned my hands and ruined my rings. Horrible experience all around.

this place is amazing. never been to a great nails salon like this. you should ask for truc (julia) or the owner. i couldn’t catch her name but they do nails really great. the owner has done nails for over 26 years. still been doing it great. try it out sometime

LONG REVIEW WARNING.
I have been thinking about how to review this place recently after my recent visit as of yesterday. I normally have very good experiences here but always forget to check in or even review because they’re okay, plus I don’t like using my phone when I’m getting my nails done. However, the visit before my prior was not good and the whole manicure was ruined by a bubbly top coat. I am aware that they have a no refund policy, but I didn’t want to go back in because having someone redo a whole set of nails means I’m taking time from another whole paid manicure that the tech could have done. I don’t tend to get things fixed because If I were a tech I wouldn’t want to keep having to fix things and not get paid for it so, I did post pictures on Unilocal,but didn’t review. I believe I even started a review but ended up just letting it go,
Yesterday, I went in an was originally going to get the Infinite Shine colors for my manicure as the colors last forever and they don’t chip as much. Plus they have a luscious shine even without top coat. I have the whole set at home but am just too lazy to do it myself at times. So I went in and the after the initial cleaning and prepping of my nails after I washed my hands and went back to my seat, the manager came and greeted me by name. I was surprised as to how she knew, but I just brushed it off because I do tend to go here often. She told me that last time the top coat wasn’t good and she just checked the bottle to make sure it wasn’t bubbly and everything, which was nice and friendly. I however changed my mind and decided to just get white French tips. So she was okay with that,
My tech was sweet and very kind, but she forgot to put the base coat on before the white layers. I didn’t mind honestly, it’s okay for me. Nail polish doesn’t last long anyway so it’s fine. However the manager sat right next to me and told her that she messed up. She said it in Vietnamese and I told her that it was okay. Honestly, I felt bad when she told my tech to redo it again, but in the end she did. My tech was extremely patient and took her time to do my nails, I felt it was because there was not as many people there and because the manager did recognize me from Unilocal.
Although my nails were given much attention, I felt bad for my tech because normally a manicure is around 30 minutes and I was there for almost an hour. I felt as though I took up two manicures so ended up tipping her 100%. I felt sort of uncomfortable because everyone was watching me because I Unilocaled pictures…
I really liked my technician if you guys can tell so I didn’t want her getting into anymore trouble. As we were leaving the salon, the manager sat and told me that she was sorry for the last time and that they try to take good care of their customers. She told me to let her see my nails and check them. I actually smudged my finger while getting my money out, but I felt so pressured because all the techs were watching me leave so I showed her my unsmudged left hand. Haha. Slick move.
Overall, aside from the polish the time before. The techs are usually nice and friendly, sometimes you feel good and sometimes you feel great. You don’t leave dissatisfied generally. I’ll still come back since it is my usual place but I’ll be more attentive so that I won’t be more uncomfortable.

not so good. they’re good but they kept on screaming. i didnt like the way they painted it. they messed up the side. do not go to truc or the manager that works there. awful expierences. they’re so annoying.

let me just start off by saying this is the best & most accommodating nail salon in the south shore!!! this place is newly re-​opened aka just had a huge makeover. if your anything like me, you want an exact match for gel and polish, the have it here. not to mention they have the most amazing color selection. beware of the bitter bad reviews, come see julia & kathy they will 100% take care of you.

I always get the bio seaweed gel manicure and it lasts for 11+ days no chips. I was relieved to find a solution since they usually don’t last long due to the excessive washing of my hands. The people here are great. Kathy, the manager is lovely, and always willing to help. Megan is awesome as well, I always ask for her if possible.

BUYER BEWARE!!! STAY AWAY FROM MICHAEL’S PLACE!!!
I went to this nail salon out of desperation. It was the Wednesday before Easter, my FANTASTIC salon was booked solid (Nails & Spa in Braintree — 781−848−1756) & I was way overdue for a gel fill.
I went in and was greeted by manager Kathy. I told her I wanted a gel fill, which was clearly listed on their pricing board at $ 28. Once my fill was complete, I left a generous $ 7 tip at Kathy’s station and proceeded to the register where I was charged a whopping $ 38 for the service. I protested at the register, pointing to their pricing sign. I was told that the gel fill is $ 28 but since they used GEL, it was additional. Does that make sense to anyone else?!
Anyway, I paid the $ 38. I left the $ 7 tip at Kathy’s station so I wouldn’t look like a jerk taking it back. Boy, I wish I did. Three days later, it’s Saturday. Guess what — 4 of my 10 fingernails are chipping. And not even a little chipping on the edge of the nail. Considering I paid what I consider to be a ridiculous amount of money, I went back Saturday morning (today).
When I went in, I asked an associate what the price of a gel fill is. She replied with $ 35, which is $ 3 less than what Kathy charged me 3 days ago. Obviously, they just make up the price based of what designer bag you’re carrying. They know what you can and cannot afford.
Again, Kathy came to the desk. I showed her my nails & told her I wanted a refund. She told me I was upset about the price from the get-​go, intentionally chipped my nails and that she would not give me a refund. Needless to say, we got into it and she called mall security on me.
In her defense, she did offer to fix my nails, but I don’t want them fixed if I’ll only have to return in 3 days to have half of them fixed again. This service was terrible. There is no sign at her store that says «No Refunds.»
Mall security told her to give me the contact information for the store owner, which she refused to do. Instead of resolving this issue with a simple refund, she has opened the flood gates of bad reviews.
I hope this helps other Unilocalers. I have also filed a complaint with Guest Services at the South Shore Plaza and will do everything in my power to warn potential customers of your poor business practices.

Awful!!! Gel peeled off on my thumb and index finger the very next day… should have gotten up and ran when a lady came in and handed the owner her credit card for a complete refund due to my same reason.
Save your money a go somewhere else… wish I did!

This place has a new owner and I am glad I gave it another try! I’m super picky and I hate when places have all dried up old nail polish… but this place has tons of nail colors to choose from and it is super clean! Definately my new spot!

I have seen a 100% transformation here. There are new tables. New colors. New artists. Yes I call them artists because that’s exactly what they are. They do amazing work. And each of them are so so friendly. Kathy, Kimmy, and Julia to name a few. I really recommend that if you been here before and didn’t like it to come back. Talk to Kathy she will absolutely take care of you and whatever you desire.

I have stayed away from this place for some time now, but for some reason I decided to stop in. The whole place has changed the bad thing before was the filth and the disorganization, plus they never did good on my nails. Today I was greeted by new people and a clean new design. The new Manager Kathy did my nails and I love the way she did them! I will be coming back again to her every two weeks. Great job Kathy!

This place is literally horrible. First of all it doesn’t even look clean. I’m not entirely sure how thoroughly they clean their equipment either. My manicure looks so sloppy! I could’ve done a better job doing it at home myself. She got it all over my skin. My friend that I went with was disappointed as well. Also their customer service sucks they aren’t very friendly at all. Won’t be coming back EVER.

I got a good polish — however — I had to listen to a woman complaining about being left in a pedicure bath for 45 minutes to wait for a woman named Mary — apparently Mary left her there and told her she’d be back in 10 minutes — then went and did a brazilian bikini wax that took 45!!!
My girlfriend paid and tipped for us both before the services were finished. Once my nail tech got her $$$ she finished scrubbing the leg she was on and completely skipped the other! Then her nail tech kept getting up and down to the point that she said you know what — just do a polish change — but because he had already soaked and pushed back her cuticles — he said she would have to pay for the full manicure even though she no longer had the time to receive it!!! THEN, he made someone else paint her nails and tried to keep the tip!!! THEN he told her he wasn’t feeling well, went outside to those couches in mall hallway and started chatting it up and laughing on his cell phone.
I would avoid this place at all costs — and if you do have to go here — go for a polish — ONLY!
