TUNE IN!
History
Established in 1978.
In the early 1970’s, there was no college/university/community radio station in Boulder. A few visionary folks decided to take matters into their own hands and create the station we know now as Boulder Community Broadcast Association, Inc, dba/KGNU on June 2nd, 1975.
KGNU went on the air on May 22, 1978 at 10 am. With a reasonable amount of interest and curiosity, we were given the task of introducing a whole new form of radio to the Boulder community. The station went on the air with volunteer broadcasters; in its skeletal form, that schedule survives to this day.
In 2004, KGNU purchased an AM frequency 1390 AM, and introduced community radio to Denver. We now have a studio in Denver, located at 700 Kalamath, where we are training volunteers to produce radio. broadcast worldwide on the internet at www.kgnu.org. We are in the process of paying off our new Boulder home, at 4700 Walnut Street, and are repaying loans that we took out to make the Denver station a reality.
