Established in 2005.

John’s Auto Care is owned by John Argrow, out of his desire to create a customer-​centered, affordable auto service & repair shop. John likes to say, «we fix cars, but really we’re about PEOPLE». We are located on 55th St, between Arapahoe and Western, in the building just north of Colorado Power Sports.

Like many mechanics, John comes from a «car family» and has a passion for cars. But unlike most he got into the field because he loves people.

John’s grandmother taught him to drive at age 12 in rural Oklahoma, and he’s been involved with cars ever since. Despite his «car fetish», John’s real passion is people. He’s managed grocery stores and has been a very successful baby photographer!

In 1994, John met his wife, Barbera, and moved to Boulder, CO. Landing a job at Rob’s Village Conoco, John honed his mechanics skills and before long became the head technician of the shop and one of the most trusted diagnostians and emissions specialists in Boulder.

Moving to Haglin Automotive, John learned about the business of running a shop and in 2005 opened his own on 55th Street. Many of John’s customers have followed him from his days at Rob’s, and he now spends his time training his staff to strive for excellence and deliver exceptional customer service.

John has been my mechanic for 15 years! He has helped with 3 different vehicles and has always been trustworthy, reliable, and honest. He’s helped with repairs and maintenance on small and large jobs, and I trust him completely. They also will drive you home or even lend their courtesy car out while you wait!

Johns did a nice job of getting my truck in for an oil change. The problem was they didn’t tighten the drain plug and as a result it leaked oil all over my driveway. I took it to my local dealer that fixed the issue and topped off the oil.
To add insult, I called John’s to explain the situation and they agreed to get back to me – never did.
These types of mistakes should never happen, but when they do you expect them to step up and make it right. Very disappointed.

My car overheated. They diagnosed that it needed a new thermostat, kept me waiting five days and tried to charge me $ 950. I couldn’t believe it. John apologized and knocked $ 300 off, but insisted that $ 650 was not out of the ordinary. The bill was padded right and left. On the way home the check engine light came on. John said they forgot to reset it. Stay away from this place.

I have taken my car there a couple times now and got a transmission replaced, which I feel very confident about! John is a family man and that’s how you will be treated when you go there.

These guys are awesome! I“m so used to being scammed out of money every time I need any work done on my car, but the people at John’s are super nice and always upfront and honest about everything! They break down the cost and help keep it low for you. They are definitely willing to go the extra mile for their customers!

John and John’s auto care are amazing. On two occassions he found issues with our cars that could have cost us thousands in future costs that, because they were caught early, resulted in us getting these matters fixed by the dealership for free! John’s documentation was so solid that the dealership had no choice but to agree. He could have charged for the fix but he didn’t. He pointed us to the best way to get it fixed as cheaply and appropriately as possible. John is super thorough and knowledgeable. Rare to find this and an honest guy who explains things in a way anyone can understand.
As for the weed thing, I haven’t had my car smell like anything but what it came in as.

I couldn’t be happier with John’s Auto Care. They were professional and did a great job helping us through a crisis while we were in the process of moving. And they didn’t charge us a fortune, as the other repair shops quoted.
The owner came out and had a chat with us when we picked up our car. If we lived in the area, John’s would be our mechanic of choice.

I was just passing through town on an across the country road trip when my car started acting up. John and his team worked hard to find out what was going on. John is super knowledgeable; he knew the most likely reason for the problem, but did not want to replace the part without being able to recreate the problem – just in case it was something unexpected. I really appreciate that they did not want me to have to pay for a part without being certain it was the right part. Ultimately they were unable to have my car recreate the problem, the issue has also not come up again! I guess just looking at the car was enough to fix it!
The customer service was amazing, and a truly down to earth and honest mechanic is a rare find these days. I highly recommend going to John’s Auto Care.

I have nothing but good things to say about this place. They have always given me the lowest prices when it comes to work on my car… even oil changes. They do a full look through of your car when you go in and give you a full diagnosis of whtever needs to be done from a scale of 1 – 3 (not so bad-​neeeeeds to be fixed)
The staff is very friendly AND they will give you a ride to and from work while your car is being worked on. Keep it up guys!

I really try to support local businesses, but I won’t be coming back here. I didn’t feel like the employees were polite or clear about what repairs were needed. And, I just don’t trust them after having several repairs done and not feeling very well treated or well informed.

I want so hard to like this place. The staff is friendly and nice, they will shuttle you to and from their office, and John himself seems to be a great guy and genuinely cares.
Unfortunately, that is about all they have going for them. In fact, now that I have been to other shops I have found this place to be dishonest at best. I have had multiple issues with my vehicle recently, they misdiagnosed the problem and then it took them about a week to figure out what the real issue was. I went to the dealership and after describing my symptoms they knew exactly what the problem was and priced me at a 1⁄3rd of the cost not including the part John’s wrongly replaced! I was so mad that I hadn’t looked around. I ended up spending over $ 1,200 at their shop for a problem that should have cost me closer to $ 300.
They quoted me one price and then when I came in to pick my car up, there were extra charges on my bill that I had never agreed to. They changed lights and charged me for them. Something I could have done easily on my own for a much cheaper price. The bill ended up being about $ 75-​$ 100 more than what they had quoted me on the phone. Pretty discouraging and disappointing.
Then, I had an issue with my check engine light and one of the mechanics actually told me to just erase the code and «drive on it.» It ended up being three separate active issues with my car, that if I hadn’t brought it in to the dealership probably would have totaled my car. I am just so glad that I brought it in to a different place and got the issue resolve before it became any more serious.
And on the topic of the shop smelling like marijuana from other people, my car ALWAYS smelled like it for a week after. It made me so uncomfortable. I was not a fan in this

Not Impressed
Job took longer than it should have. They tried to charge me more than I was quoted. The mechanic left parts off that should have been on.

I’ve been looking for a reliable auto service and repair store, and I saw that John’s Auto Care had good reviews, so I thought I’d try it out.
I found the customer service personnel to be friendly, and for all I know, the service technicians did a fine job servicing my vehicle. The only problem is that after taking my car to John’s, it smelled like marijuana for about 2 – 3 weeks.
I figured that one of the service technicians was smoking in or around my car, but Danielle G. suggested that the reason it smelled like marijuana is that there are a number of grow housed in the area. I don’t know which explanation is more likely, but I do know that my car smelled like marijuana after taking it to John’s Auto Care.

I recently brought in my Subaru to get the «check engine» light evaluated, and then an oil change. These guys are so nice, considerate, knowledgeable, and organized. I appreciate that you can make an appointment online. I will absolutely take my car back for its next repairs.

Untrustworthy.
I used to be a loyal customer of Fuji Motors. I called to get my regular service checkup and John’s Auto answered Fuji’s phone number (I had no idea Fuji had gone out of business). I ended up taking my car to John’s.
They told me that my rear struts were leaking and that it would be a $ 1000+ fix to change ONLY the rear struts, and $ 2000 to change all four. I was not planning on spending this type of money, but they assured me «we have financing, don’t worry.» Ummm I don’t think so. I called around to other shops and found one in my area that would do the struts for $ 500 (and another for $ 750… both waaay cheaper). Whoopee! So I picked my car up from John’s and brought it to Scott’s Fort Collins Auto, who I asked to change the struts. Dennis from Scott’s called me back within an hour and told me my struts were fine and there were no leaks in the struts and, if anything, my strut bumpers were a little worn, but nothing to worry about.
I’m FURIOUS with John’s Auto Care. They have proven themselves to be completely untrustworthy. I resent the $ 40 I spent with them on the inspection. DO NOT TAKE YOUR CAR HERE!

Great local place to take your car for repair. John came to pick up the car (that wouldn’t start) and charged me a reasonable amount to get it going (new battery & oil change). I highly recommend this shop for their customer service.
