I don’t normally have great things to say about car dealerships, but these guys are awesome from the sales department to the service department.
Sales treated me fairly and was willing to work over the phone and by email.
Service just correctly fixed a faulty part on my GTI in a few hours. They opened on time at 7:30a, had me in and out quickly and called to say the work was done at noon. The courtesy shuttle got me to work on time and picked me up at the end of the day. They were at my front door exactly when they said they’d be there.
Super happy with the experience and would highly recommend working with these guys rather than the other dealerships to the south. They’re definitely my first call if I need anything VW related in the future.

This has got to be, hands down, the easiest car purchase I have ever made in my entire life.
I found the car online this morning and was home with it in no time.
The time actually «dealing» (test drive — sales — finance), was maybe a little over an hour or so. INCREDIBLE!
My sales person, Kathleen McNutt, was awesome.
She answered all of our questions while being the most down to earth sales person I’ve ever dealt with at a dealership. She displayed a solid work ethic, was honest, and very knowledgeable.
The finance guys were equally amazing.
I’ve dealt with my fair share of absolute jerk-​offs (seriously, one guy I almost punched out), in other finance departments at other dealerships but, NOT at Gebhardt.
I actually started to feel like I was holding THEM up from their work by chatting with them!
Way to go Gebhardt, you gained a definite repeat customer.
Your management and staff should feel proud of how well you executed everything today in the eyes of me, the customer.
You guys are obviously doing something right — so keep doing it!

It’s a shame that so many people have had a bad experience with Gebhardt. My fiancé and I have been contemplating a new car for about a year. I think we had gone to Gebhardt about 3 times, each time we went in, we were treated very well, and never got that «oh these people again» treatment.
On September 12^th we went in hoping to look at a used Tiguan. Having owned a Tiguan before I knew they were pricey, but there was a used one that we wanted. Long story short, we didn’t like the used Tiguan, it didn’t have the right equipment, it was Red, and so in.
Our salesman Marcus was great, he was very busy, but showed us that Tiguan, a Passat and finally a new Tiguan. We were semi interested in leasing, but my fiancé had been burned by Toyota before on a lease. We drove a new ’16 Tiguan SE, the list Price on the Tiguas have inflated quite a bit since I first purchased one, so I wasn’t thrilled to think of what our payment was going to be. We drove the car and loved it, we went back to get an idea of what we were looking at. The first price came back very high, we are talking Audi Q3 money. My fiancé said nope, we need to pay this amount, the finance guys were great (who ever says that) they met our demands, then I started to freak out. I knew we had big life plans, we didn’t want the typical 36 month lease that they had quoted, but knew that if we did a 24 month lease our payments would skyrocket. This is where Gebhardt really won me over, they worked it out so we hit our target payment, for 24 months, on the perfect car.
It seems some other people with bad reviews here may not know how to buy a car, or had bad service, but to us, this was the perfect dealership buying experience.

Free car washes and great coffee for all customers every Saturday morning (above freezing temperatures) make up for the excruciating pain of their hard bargaining. Plus I really like my new car.

Be wary of the seemingly endless 5 star reviews for Gebhardt VW.
After our first unfortunate experience here when we purchased our first VW (in the end we did not purchase from here), the only reason I went back is because they are our local dealership.
Why did I give them two stars instead of one? I have had two service experiences and one sales experience here which were positive. Especially Aaron in sales.
Today’s lousy experience is courtesy of Rich, the GM. I walked in after learning of a particular Touareg they have in stock. Since Aaron was not there, Rich was inclined to assist. We discuss a bit what car’s I’m looking at, normal car dealership banter. Rich proceeds to tell me the price of the car. He then directly follows with «Does this seem like a number you can afford?» After a pause of reflecting on what he’d actually said, I gathered my thoughts, replied with a yes, and walked outside.
A quick collection of responses came to mind. I pursued the educational position.
I am certainly not a billionaire. I have never owned a Ferrari, Lamborghini or Rolls Royce, although I certainly work very hard towards that opportunity. Regardless what I have owned in the past, there is no precedent for asking that of a customer, at all. Especially in a Volkswagen dealership. To compare other dealership experiences, I have test driven hundreds (yes, that is correct) and owned dozens of new and used cars, from Mercedes, BMW, Porsche, and many other luxury/​non-​luxury brands costing up to four times the Touareg in question. I have NEVER been asked that question ever. It is simply rude, un-​professional, demeaning, and discriminatory.
I then entertained the moment and asked Rich if this was standard practice to ask such a question to which he replied… yes. So, action must be taken.

There’s a good reason many people call any dealership a «stealership». As other have noted, the sales people here are pushy, somewhat dishonest, and try to make you think you know nothing about cars. Well, that’s total BS for many of us.
They won’t negotiate fairly, as though VWs are the best cars in the world. Well, they aren’t. They’re overpriced, very costly to repair, and the MPGs are no where near what I was expecting. As a result, I bought 2 TDi s in ’08 used, from private owners, one from out of state even, at much better prices than any stealership in CO, the other was fairly local.
Since both cars were still under warranty, I was taking them to Gebhardt for all the warranty servicing since they are close to home and have drop off/​pick up services. However, for anything not covered by warranty, I use Indian Peaks Auto. As soon as the warranty was up, and repairs were still needed, I discovered some repairs weren’t lasting that Gebhardt had done. Some components lasted less than a year.
I cannot recommend Gebhardt for anything. Go elsewhere.

I recently went to Gebhardt for an oil change and was impressed, as always. Stefan is friendly, helpful, and punctual. I oftentimes run a very tight schedule, which makes dropping off my car a logistical challenge. Stefan has routinely gone out of his way to make sure the service is done by the time I need the car, and that I am on their free shuttle service to get back and forth to work. He also clearly communicates what work needs to be done and what work is on the horizon, so that I am not surprised by it and can think about how I want to handle it. And I am never pressured or hassled to get work done that is unnecessary. I appreciate that quite a bit.

I bought a 2012 Golf TDI here last year and it was one of the best car buying experiences ever. I also take my 2012 Tiguan and Golf here for service. One of the best service departments hands down. Stefan in service is outstanding. I would highly recommended buying and servicing your car here.

If I could, I would give a million negative stars. I would advise everyone against getting their car serviced here even if it’s more convenient. Tynan’s is far away, but SO worth the drive. This is going to be a long-​winded review but I want everyone to know what happened to me.
BACKGROUND:
On October 7^th, I had a blow out on highway 36. I got the tire replaced and went on with my regular routine. The following day, the gas cap light came on followed by the check engine light. I called Gebhardt to explain what was going on and they advised me to come in so they could take a look. When I checked the car in, I again let them know about the blow out and that I was wondering if it was related.
I got a call about 4 hours after I dropped it off. John from service blamed me for «leaving the gas cap on for a large amount of time» which caused an evaporative leak. We won’t charge you for this he said, we realize you probably just got busy and forgot to put it on. That would be so nice except that I did not leave the gas cap off at any time. Despite my repeated protests that I didn’t do that, John told me that he’s been doing this for 11 years and knows that’s what happened. At this point, I was just ready to just get my car back and move on.
Another thing to note here, Gebhardt treats you like a second rate citizen if you did not buy your car from them. Because I bought my car at Tynan’s, they would not extend me a loaner. But luckily that have a shuttle which I probably spent about 3 hours riding around in (you have to wait for them to drop off everyone, or come back from dropping off everyone to pick you up from the dealership), or waiting for during this whole ordeal. When I was in there two times during this issue, I watched them give out loaners to other people even though they told me they don’t do that.
The very next day, the gas cap light comes back. Then the check engine light. So, back to the dealership I go. Another shuttle ride and half a day later, John calls to let me know that they’ve finally found the issue! There was a valve that needed replacing. So, John apologizes for 2 visits but assures me that everything is good to go now.
One day later, surprise, both lights are back on. At this point I am furious. I called up Gebhardt to ask if they think it’s worth it for me to come back in or not. John is out of the office at this point so Tom advises me that because I keep bringing it in and they can’t find anything wrong, they may need to start charging me. Even though my car is super new (10k miles), if they can’t find a specific issue VW will not pay. And this concludes my interaction with Gebhardt. I will never bring my car to them again.
So I call up Tynan’s, where I bought the car from. I explain my frustrations and they tell me to bring in the car. They let me know that they will probably need to keep it for a few days in order to properly diagnose the issue (already feels better than Gebhardt). They hold a loaner for me so I can have transportation while my car is in the shop for the third time. It is a 2013 Jetta, almost the same as mine. Way better than Gebhardt.
THIS IS WHERE IT GETS REALLY BAD:
Tynan’s called me today to tell me the problem. A schrapnel I ran over on the highway (which caused the blowout) was propelled by my tire at highway speeds (about 60 mph) up through the wheel well causing damage to the fuel tank filler neck and fender liner. So, there are gaping holes in the car, as well as the schrapnel (which I believe is at least 5 inches long) STILL lodged inside. There is at least $ 4000 of damage to my car.
Here are my major concerns about Gebhardt:
1. How does something this major go unnoticed TWICE?
2. Did they even look at the car, or just continued to blame the issues on me, thus not even looking?
3. Why was the valve replaced? Or, was it even replaced?
I will never go back to this terrible place for any reason. I work less than 2 miles from this dealership making it extremely convenient for issues and routine maintenance. I will drive over an hour to Aurora to avoid working with these people ever again who are clearly incompetent. If they can miss something this major, who knows what other things they are missing which could be major safety concerns? Go to Tynan’s!

Really fantastic car buying experience. Was ready to trade-​in my old beat up college car for something that had good gas mileage but could also do well in CO winters and in the mountains. So that had me looking at the 2013 TDI Turbo Beetle and the TDI SportsWagon.
Cody Newman was a great salesman to work with. Got in touch with me the day after my initial inquiry to set up a time to come in and look at the inventory. It was a completely no-​pressure car buying situation, but Cody was also a great evangelist of VW cars and was able to show me all of the great new features of the new beetle that really sold the car for me. I hadn’t walked in thinking I would buy that day… but Cody and the whole team over there sold me on it. They worked with me to get a very fair trade-​in value for my old car, dropped $ 3K off the MSRP and gave me 0% financing for 72mos. It was really a deal you couldn’t beat.
I really appreciated the fact that it wasn’t the typical buying experience. Before signing any papers, they walk you around and introduce you to the head of the Parts department, head of the Service department, and Carol Gephardt (the Owner)…and each person just makes you feel like you are going to be completely taken care of through the whole process.
Cody (salesman), Jerry and Chad (Sales Managers) and Max (Parts dept) went above and beyond to make sure I was happy and got everything I wanted in my new car… from the right model, to the right price, to the added options I wanted.
Thanks for making it easy — I highly recommend Gebhardt VW.

Gebhardt VW provides the worst service. I was a loyal and frequent (due to their poor maintenance service) customer. I was severely over charged and my problems persisted even though I brought my car in on multiple occasions. Something as simple as figuring out why my check engine light was turned on ended up costing hundreds of dollars. My check engine light is once again, turned on… and flashing! I was there just a month ago to have this problem resolved.
They charged me nearly $ 100 to put tape around a vacuum hose with a hole in it when I decided that I couldn’t afford the $ 400+ cost of buying a new hose and repairing it.
When I cancelled my most recent appointment because I felt that I my problem would not be resolved and that I would be overcharged, the man on the phone said «ok, thanks» and hung up on me.
Poor service and no respect or value for their customers.

Robbery. They charged me $ 93.37 for a standard oil change, no joke. It was my first — brand new VW — not covered under carefree maintenance because i went before the 10,000 miles which i knew would incur a charge. But $ 93? I also have a brand new Acura — first oil change on that one cost $ 22.40. Gebhardt has to realize their customer base drives Volkswagens and not Bentley’s!
I will go out of my way to avoid Gebhardt in the future, for VW, and also for BMW for any new car purchasesi in the future.

The service is ok, well under the comp plan that VW is currently bundling with newer VW’s.
As for sales, do yourself a favor and drive down to Tynan’s in Denver. These guys hardly budge off MSRP, Tynans knocked 5.5k off our new touareg.

Took my wife’s Jetta here. They fixed stuff before they called me, when I specifically told them not to. And their labor on a simple alternator change was almost double other places when I called around town. Typical dealership service, save your money.

I’ve never had so many problems with a dealership, i used to think Sill-​Terhar had one of the worst repair shops in the county, however Gebhardt was up to the task.
I bought my car in late 2007, it was a used 03 GTI 1.8t, i really had no problems with buying the car from them, i test drove it, thought about it for a few days and decided to get it. I ended up oping for the warranty because of all the issues i had with my ford in the past. So i get hooked in and go for all the bells and whistles.
Now fast forward 2 months, I begin to notice some slipping with my transmission when i hit about 2500 RPMs the tachometer shoots up to 5500 and doesn’t give me any power, this gos on for about a week and after that the flywheel burns its self out. i manage to get the car to my mom’s pad near where it was starting to break down. The smell was awful and i had a few neighbors complain. So i get the car towed to Gebhardt and they tell me i have to replace the flywheel.
Flywheel replacements are the only thing for the car that’s not under warranty. and i thought the reason i got the warranty for the extra 40 a month was to actually have insurance that i won’t have to pay for the parts. but i just bought the car so i bit the bullet and had it replaced. At this point the car has cost me $ 19k for the car and the flywheel is a clean 1600 so I’m already up to 20k for a 03 GTI i bought in 07.
The best part was the accused me of racing it for the first 2 months i had it. Which since i’m not trying to get my money back or anything i can be honest: i wasn’t. Not even a little bit, i usually shift at under 3000 RPMs and keep my revs low so I’m not using tons of gas… that’s the reason you buy a car with such a tiny motor. The GTI is a fun car with the turbo but i’m also not trying to get tickets or use my entire paycheck on gas.
A few days later i get my GTI back and i’m back on the road. I still had a sour taste in my mouth from Gebhardt charging so much for the flywheel and the fact that it wasn’t under warranty, but i just wanna get it behind me so i don’t think about it much until one month later.
The flywheel goes out again.
So now i’m hitting about 3 months of owning this car and the transmission has gone out twice, i know a bit about cars so i go online and find out that the MK4 1.8t cars have a dual clutch flywheel setup. This dual clutch flywheel also apparently according to anyone that’s owned the car, likes to crack and leak oil on its self inside the transmission. At this point i just wanna trade the car in and be rid of the whole thing, i went car shopping but decided i liked my GTI… it was the reason i bought it in the first place.
So i look into getting this nasty flywheel dealt with, i found a shop in arvada that does more ‘unconventional’ VW repairs and found out the VR6 GTI Flywheel is compatible with my car and doesn’t have the oil leakage problem that EVERY 1.8t transmission has. I go ahead and it the repair done and it costs me a clean 1900… I’m ready to pay it just knowing that this time i should be done right.
After a few hours the shop asked me who did the last flywheel swap a month ago because they didn’t drain the oil from the first flywheel crack. Apparently the new flywheel gebherdt put it is just sitting in about and inch or two of oil.
So Gebherdt KNEW that they didn’t install it right and i’d be back again in a month. And this is after when i was buying the car they told me it was supposed to be pretty reliable. So they managed to LIE to me pretty much during every encounter that i had with them.
Fast forward another year later, i get a check engine light and i use my car computer scanner and it says that its just a sensor that broke. I take my car back to gebherdt (if i didn’t learn my lesson already) mainly because i was still paying for that god awful warranty. The part was cheap but the labor cost me an arm and a leg, so i blow another 350 on the car. I’m up to about 22 800 for an USED 03. i drive the car for 2 days and it starts having an issue, whenever the turbo kicks in there’s a massive WOOOOSH sound that i know isn’t supposed to be there.
olé gebherdt is at it again with the tricks. I carefully drive the car down to arvada and have the shop down there look at it. apparently the gebherdt mechanic forgot to attach one of the hoses properly and he said that driving from boulder to arvada should have destroyed the turbo. luckily i was careful and didn’t let the turbo spool my whole drive down. They only charge me 60 bucks to fix the problem, but of course this is 60 bucks going to a problem Gebherdt engineered for me.
So my best advice about this dealership, if you feel like buying a car here take all that money you’d spend on it and just set it on fire. I’ll never go to gebherdt again, or buy VW, or even buy German because of this place.

I’ve used VW Gebhardt for over 10 years before they moved from 28^th to East Pearl. I’ve had a couple of Jetta’s and was considering buying a Touraeg.
The sales person I dealt with was not very informative, which was not a big deal as I had done the research to find car I wanted, SUV that is good in snow.
Anyway, had car ordered came to pick-​up and there was some extra charges not on original quote. I asked and they said car came with «floor mat» package which added about $ 400 to a $ 50,000 car. I said, I didn’t want the fancy floor mats. Long story short, I offered to split cost of floor mats, the sales person and manager became fairly aggressive/​unpleasant so I walked.
Still can’t believe what happened, was just plain bizarre. In full disclosure, I don’t care for car salespeople in general, unfortunately folks at VW Gebhardt reinforce many stereotypes, like adding in little extra items, costs, and then making like the customer feel as they don’t know anything about buying a car.

I have mixed feelings about this dealership. Okay, I concede that buying a car from a dealership is never perfect although maybe it should be.
I went here with my husband in October 2008 to check out the new MKV GTI. I work for the company that at the time did all the advertising for Volkswagen America so I felt compelled to see what was out there. I’m an old-​skool VW enthusiast and was leery of the new vehicles but nevertheless curious.
The salesman who was a big part of the saving grace of this dealership was a guy named Rich Moss. He was friendly, helpful, and above all very enthusiastic about the cars and the new DSG automatic transmission. I am a die hard «drive stick or die» driver as is my husband. Rich took us out in one of the 4-​door GTIs with the automatic and blew us away. He did an excellent job of talking up a great new option without going over the top. We went intending to just check out the cars but wound up deciding to buy a new GTI that day. The problem was the configuration we wanted wasn’t on the lot, or even in the state (2-​door with the DSG but no sunroof).
Enter Chad, the sales manager. He was very pleased to have an employee of my company there buying a car. He was immensely helpful in finding us the car we wanted — it wasn’t even in the country but he earmarked it for us and said it would be in by November, if not sooner. We were willing to wait a month so we committed to the car and gave Rich a retainer for the next four weeks. We filled out the credit application and Chad gave us a figure on monthly payments that we could live with. At this point I asked him «So was I approved for financing and this is including the interest on the loan?» He said yes.
He lied.
Three days before the car got into port, I received a phone call from Chad. He said they were unable to get me a line of credit. He’s telling me this three weeks after I filled out the credit app. He didn’t mention any other financing options but asked if I could find a cosigner or talk to my own bank. There is no way I was going to expect someone to cosign with me on a $ 25,000 car loan (and I am a homeowner for gods sake) so I told him I would speak to my bank, who is thankfully a nice local credit union. He proceeded to call me at work no less than FIVE times a day in an attempt to push me along and get information. It was borderline harassment. October 31 was coming quickly and the car was going to be at the dealership by then so my best guess is he was pushing hard to get the sale onto their monthly numbers for October. I took a fair amount of time off work, unexpectedly and during a crunch, to drive to my credit union and fill out a loan application. They approved me for the loan. Chad then proceeded to call my bank and harass my loan officer, insisting he wanted a written letter of approval. My loan officer explained that the credit union could give a verbal approval but nothing in writing until I signed the loan documents. She was a saint throughout the entire ordeal and fielded Chad’s calls with grace.
After handling a huge number of unreasonable phone calls, taking time off work, and stressing about something that turned out to me more work than closing on my house, the Big Day arrived and the car made it to the dealership in Colorado Springs where it was scheduled to be delivered. Rich Moss took an early morning, on a Saturday of all days, to drive all the way to the Springs, pick up the car, and bring it to me without a scratch. He spent over an hour going over everything about the car with me and my husband. I commend him for going above and beyond to get the car in my hands after all the work I put into making the deal happen (moreso than the dealership). I delivered all my loan paperwork and then was given the extended warranty spiel by a guy named Jeremy. I declined the extended warranty and after another phone conversation with my loan officer the following Monday, I found out that Gebhardt had called and accused her of swaying me away from buying the extended warranty!
My salesman Rich Moss has always gone the extra mile for me, and is the reason I give this place two stars instead of one. Due to the HORRIBLE treatment I endured from the rest of the dealership, I will probably never buy another car here again.

I’m usually leery of the cost of dealership service; but when the «service» part is really good, it’s worth it. On an already hectic day, the sense that you’re truly being taken care of is indispensable. Stefan in the Service Department is a star: speedy, high-​energy, and a good communicator and project manager.
My office recently moved around the corner from Gebhardt, and on two occasions I’ve swung the Jetta by there for this and that.
This: a cracked windshield and a laundry list of little fixes. I got a quote on the windshield that was quite competitive with the auto glass places I’d Googled. Stefan found a bunch of the little fixes could still come in under warranty, and even though the service bays were running late that day, Stefan’s communication with me throughout the day made the difference.
That: this morning, I popped in before work, annoyed by a burnt-​out taillight. Stefan stopped what he was doing to replace the bulb himself, check all the others, and had me out of there in minutes.
Top-​notch, really.
