Crepes a La Cart

Every bite was DELICIOUS and the prices are reasonable which is harder and harder to find in Boulder. Our server was knowledgable and so pleasant as well. The $ 9 seared salmon salad with beets and baby kale was perfect. My daughter’s crêpe came with some kind of spicy cole slaw that was out of this world as well. but the lemon crêpe for dessert was delicately flavored and OOHHH so good.
I love the décor which is comfortable and unpretentious. Looking forward to going back and checking out many more menu items.

Initially, our Boulder travel plans included staying at a B&B, and I am glad we didn’t because we would have missed this darling creperie. The sign for Crepes a la Cart caught my eye, although they apparently now want to be known as A Café (which has a separate Unilocal listing with the same address and no reviews). In this case I will be a lemming and present to you, gentle reader, my review of Crepes a la Cart since that is where I think I ate.
So, first thing to note is that they open at 10:00 on weekends. That’s usually a-​okay with me but on a vacation weekend we actually get an earlier start, so that was a minor inconvenience. Not a big deal, just sayin’.
I ordered The Farm crêpe, which was full of seasonal vegetables and a little goat cheese. The crêpe itself was fine, if a little stiff. My go-​to creperie at home (what up, Creperie St. Germain) uses a combination of buckwheat and wheat flour, which I’ve come to really love. The vegetables were in fact very fresh and delightful. The side salad was very good — simple greens with just enough dressing.
As I mentioned, we were on vacation, which means I could twist my husband’s arm into also getting a dessert crêpe to share. So after a wrenching decision between the S’mores and the Funky Monkey, we went with the latter. Your classic combination of chocolate, banana and peanut butter in a warm cocoon… if monkeys eat like this regularly, by Jove, reverse the evolution machine ‘cuz I’m going back.
The experience other than the food was charming and warm. The interior decoration is a sweet but understated combination of pale yellow, black and white, with accents like a rustic corner china cabinet and old map of Paris. Our server was friendly and efficient. The music was, I think, the entire Graceland album, followed by the Shins.
All around, a solid A.

Some of the best crepes I have had! I had the blue lagoon and my boyfriend had the banana fosters. Both were great, we will both be going back for more!

I have been to this place when it was Crepes A-​la Carte and gave it a huge thumbs down. When they changed the name to Arlene’s, I thought hey! Ok! Maybe they fixed the myriad of issues!
Oh how wrong I was. Before, the crepes were at least halfway decent, this time they added just horrid, horrid food.
HOWEVER! Recently I noticed they had been closed for a few days, revamping the menu and décor. Since giving this place a third chance, I can say without a doubt that this food is ORGASMIC!
I’ve never felt the need to review any restaurant or eatery on Unilocal but I wanted to spread the word that this place has taken a complete 180 from what it used to be!
Perfectly cooked pork belly, mac and cheese that it out of this world, crab cake and lamb sliders that will slide your panties right off! They’re also doing fresh breads recently that make a world of difference!
The crepes are back to their former glory, along with a glorious cake made of EIGHT layers of crepes! Completely decadent.
This is definitely a place to check out!

Perhaps this is not fine dining, and yes, being directly in downtown means it will be expensive, but you are paying for the pleasure of a delicious crêpe with fixings, proximity to downtown, and the very convenient too tipsy at the bars. Here we can get better than average food, and sit inside when it’s mercilessly cold winter nights. There are a few outdoor tables for warmer weather.
The place itself is reasonably clean and the service ok. But again, it’s the later hours and proximity to downtown bars that we love.

I was very disappointed with my last visit here. I ordered the «Montaigne» which is —
Chicken, mushrooms, & asparagus sautéed in a garlic & white wine cream sauce.
The sauce had way to much garlic. The asparagus was in awful condition. It seemed like they used the bottoms, they were stringy and tough. The waitress was nice about it. She apologized many times, and gave me half off.
I am not sure if I would go back. Maybe if there was a different cook cooking next time.

To be honest, I’d probably give this place 3 stars because it’s really nothing special but the escargot is SO GOOD that it singlehandedly earns this place a higher rating.
So these delectable little snails are sitting on a bed of spinach and cheesy toast bites covered in gruyère and the best creamy garlic sauce that I’ve quite possibly ever had. I’m pretty sure they use the same sauce on the scallops, so if escargot isn’t your thing, do try that. Or just ask for a guyere and garlic sauce crêpe, I don’t know. Just try it.
I also tried a bit of the Blue Lagoon crêpe which is Nutella, blueberries and Bailey’s Irish Cream. I’m not quite sure why they threw that in there and I feel it didn’t totally fit, but it was good nonetheless. The crêpe itself was really great. I wish I had been hungrier, because some of the other crepes on the menu sound amazing, both sweet and savory. They have a nice selection and if their savory options are anything like the escargot, then they’re the best crepes ever.
The service was great also. Really helpful, friendly and quick. My one odd complaint is the décor. Something about the look of that place puts me off a little. Or maybe it’s that the bathroom is practically in the kitchen. But I’d eat in a crack den if they were serving that, so whatever.

Holy crêpe Batman. SO GOOD! I stopped in with a friend and we ordered a banana and Nutella crêpe and it was amazing! Service was attentive and we were simple guests. I’ll definitely be coming back here when I need to let my fat girl loose.

So when I was visiting the state & my brother mentioned a place with «crepes» in the title I was all over that like a Once-​ler on a Truffula tree.
It’s small, quaint and what I’d imagine a Paris bistro would be… soley based on movies and pictures, of course. We were acknowledged when we walked in, but it took longer than I’d expect to get water/​menus. Plus the initial service was that awkward staring that I hate so dang much. Ordering a beer isn’t odd, why are your eyes so wide & confused?!
Anyway. It didn’t take us too long to get our crepes so that was swell! I cannot remember exactly what I ordered since it was a special, but it had chicken, cheese & a variety of spices that was tasty indeed. The crêpe itself was the perfect — thin like I love it.
I did waffle between 3 – 4 but the food makes up for any of the weirdness in service.

They do a good job here. I need to try a savory crêpe to give a better review.
Note to the restaurant
Your server sucks. Nice but gross. Coughing all over the place and then cleaning things on the floor and not stopping once to wash her hands.
Chef, you were a great server and smart to jump in for about 50% of our service. We’ll go back because of you. Don’t be afraid to send gross staff home.

Some of the worst service you could receive at an establishment. Let me count the ways…
Decided to stop here for a *quick* crêpe on our way out of Pearl St. First, went in and couldn’t find a menu. There is no menu posted when you enter, and the kid working the cashier did not offer one to us so I had to assist myself to a menu by the register.
Decided what we wanted which was ONE crêpe and purchased it and sat on the one small bench they have in their «waiting area».
Then we waited. And waited… And waited… And waited…
While I sat there with a clearly annoyed scowl on my face, the cashier/​server guy continued to walk back and forth past us with no mention of our crêpe. In fact, none of the three employees who were visible to us said a word in the HALF hour that we sat there waiting for our one stinkin’, measly crêpe. I was about to ask for my money back when the almighty crêpe maker called out our order. The only thing she had to say upon handing us our crêpe was, «Napkins are on the table.»
Seriously?
Sorry, crêpe was delicious, but I definitely will not be waiting another 30 min for some dough, nutella, and bananas, when I could’ve had a filet mignon made for me in less time.

This place is phenomenal — if the service was faster, I would give it 5 stars, but unfortunately when they’re crowded it takes a long time to get your food, so;…4 stars.
I discovered this place a few weeks ago and have been back 3 times. The salmon-​brie-​egg crêpe is INCREDIBLE, as is the Bananas Foster crêpe. They’re open until 10, so i’d recommend going there for dessert after going to a nearby restaurant.

What better way to spend an hour on a gloomy rainy day. Had the lemon soufflé. I’m no crêpe expert but it was pretty good

You know what? I really like this place. The service isn’t all that great, and at times the restaurant can be uncomfortably crowded, but I really like it. My favorite thing to do is request a mystery crêpe, I just say, «Surprise me!.» It’s a great place to bring large groups, and the furniture is comfortable. I wouldn’t want to have a family dinner here, but if I’m hanging out with friends on Pearl Street it’s the perfect place to go. It’s generally quick and I haven’t had one bad crêpe. A couple of years ago when they first opened the stove tops were «just being broken in», and the crepes were darker than I found enjoyable, now I find that every crêpe at Crepes a la Carte is perfectly golden and delicious.

It doesn’t get a «I’m a fan!» rating because there could have been more filling in the crepes. The presentation was nice, the crepes were huge, but there just wasn’t enough filling. I definitely would have liked more cheese… I got overwhelmed with spinach, but that was about it.
My Mom and I only tried the savory crepes: Veggie Lover’s and the Complete Vegetarian. They were lightly stuffed with veggies, but our only wish is that they had packed more in there for the price. We paid cash, which got us a 3% discount (holla!) but for two people, it still came to $ 20.
The service was awesome and the cashier was really nice. Again, it’s easy to get to off of Pearl St., so for that it’s good, but if you went off of Pearl St., you could probably do better for the same price.

The crepes taste like crepes, however waiting for 25 minutes for a single butter and sugar to go is unacceptable. Especially when the order was to go. Preparing multiple complicated orders for people who are dining in before a to go order is just plain inefficient.
I am astounded how unapologetic they were while I was standing directly in front of the counter obviously in rush, hence the reason for ordering it take out. Not even a «sorry for the wait.»
I will not be returning, and I advise other prospective patrons to really consider how much time they have to burn.

I’ve always promised myself to visit all the creperies (sp?) in the Denver area after repeatedly visiting Breckenridge and NEVER visiting the crêpe cart there. Anyways, on a blustery Saturday, my family and I were walking around Pearl Street and started to develop the munchies. We decided to stop in and have a snack (albeit a slightly expensive snack).
We ordered the strawberry shortcake crêpe and the bananas foster crêpe (totaling around $ 17). The bananas foster was amazing and the strawberry shortcake wasn’t bad either. My daughter definitely enjoyed the sweet goodness as we don’t let her have that much sweets. I’m sure the savory crepes are great as well, however, I’ve never been able to bring myself to eat a savory crêpe (it’s just weird to me).
Anyways, definitely stop in for a great snack/​whatever you want to call it and enjoy the greatness of Boulder.

I rolled by this beast while cooling my heels before a meeting. Ordinarily, I wouldn’t go near crepes (because they’re not nearly as macho as a burrito — lolz!), but I took a chance and was blown away.
I ordered a breakfast crêpe (bacon, egg, cheezy-​weezy) and it came flying back at me super fast. (I read a Unilocal review that said they were slow — not the case when I was there.)
My crêpe was wonderfully melty and delicious. A little pricey (I think I dropped $ 7 or something), but it’s exactly the amount of food I needed at the time.
The space is pretty cool and faces out on Broadway, so I was able to look all mysterious as I watched cars go by and junk. Definitely rolling back to Crepes soon.
My only gripe is that I wish the water had been colder. I should have asked for ice or something. Probably my bad.

What kind of breakfast place runs out of eggs at 11:30 on a Sunday morning? Doesn’t crêpe batter require eggs? Aren’t eggs in literally 95% of your breakfast dishes?
I was looking forward to trying your Minturn special, but you know what? I give up.

I was incandescently happy when I saw the Crepes a la Carte being erected downtown. I frequent Breckenridge in the winter, and have spent many a cold afternoon and evening waiting outside the original Crepes a la Carte shack for my delicious Monte Cristo Crêpe. Customers wait in below freezing weather for up to 45 minutes to get their hands on their favorite kind! I applaud the recent expansion of this restaurant – I also saw one in the local Flat Irons Mall.
I am torn between 4 ½ stars and 5 because I rather enjoy suffering outside the rickety old shack for my crêpe – it’s partly about the experience. On the other hand, the Boulder branch is quicker and warmer in the winter. I suppose if you want the real Crepes a la Carte experience you can travel to Breck. Lucky for us here in Boulder, we at least get to enjoy the crepes.
I have never taken someone to Crepes a la Carte and had them leave disappointed. Maybe we just know what to order. My sister has attempted to bribe me many times to figure out a way to ship her one to Wisconsin. I HIGHLY recommend trying the Monte Cristo with jam. If you try it and are disappointed feel free to write blasphemous comments about me (vegetarians excluded). Sure, sure, the chicken has a pretty dodgy texture, but you can’t head into this place with a terribly healthy mindset (it’s not that bad). Go for a tasty treat!
