We offer a full line of road bikes, mountain bikes, cyclocross bikes, commuter and hybrid bikes, women’s bikes, cruisers and kid’s bikes. Our mechanics are second to none and will always greet you with a friendly hello! Many of our staff members are certified bike fit specialists and will you find the right bike at the right price, and make sure you are fit properly!

History

Established in 2005.

Boulder Cycle Sport started as an idea in the fall of 2004, when co-​founders Taro Smith and Brandon Dwight saw the opportunity to fulfill an unmet need in the Boulder cycling community. With it’s close proximity to all of North Boulder County’s great road bike rides as well as access too numerous mountain bike trails, not to mention an ever-​growing neighborhood, the founders knew a bike shop located in North Boulder would thrive. In 2005, Boulder Cycle Sport was awarded Best New Bike Shop in America by Bicycle Retailer and Industry News (BRAIN) and was then named to BRAIN’s Top 100 Dealers list for 2006. There are over 5000 specialty bicycle retailers in the United States and to be named to the Top 100 Dealer list in basically the first year of business is quite an accomplishment. A second South Boulder location was opened in 2010 to meet the needs of the growing cycling population in Boulder.

I bought a used demo bike — a Scott Scale 710 — from this shop on October 31, 2015. The shop is one of the best I’ve ever been in. Every employee was friendly and helpful. They made sure the bike was exactly what I was looking for, and even swapped out and mounted tires that I brought with me. They even diagnosed a little problem that I had with one of the tires (I had damaged a sidewall — thought I dented the old rim). Anyway, they explained that it wasn’t a big deal. I wish I lived in Boulder so I could visit this bike shop more frequently. I would definitely recommend it to anyone.

It is really nice to come across a person experienced in the bike industry like Andy at Boulder Cycle Sport.
I stopped by Cycle Sport to look for a new helmet.
Because I had a severe concussion last year, I have read and thought a lot about the new «Mips» helmets, Multi-​Directional Impact Protection System helmets. People hope this new technology will remove the rotational forces which cause a lot of the concussion damage in bicycle crashes.
Andy was able to explain how the various Mips liners were meant to decrease rotational forces. He pointed out that the ability of a helmet to rotate when struck at an angle is what is important– the yellow Mips liner doesn’t guarantee that a helmet will rotate effectively to prevent concussion.
Andy’s perspective was very helpful. What I ended up buying was a Giro air attack with a thin helmet liner which rotated better on my head than any of the Mips helmets I tried on.
Cycle Sport has a very knowledgeable cycling expert in Andy. He has sound perspective on emerging technology. He is respectful. He gave me lots of information but didn’t tell me what I should buy. Well done, Boulder Cycle Sport.

My wife and I rented bikes here while visiting Boulder. Good value, extremely helpful staff (ESP. RayLynn and Ben), lots of guidance regarding local trails, and the bikes were solid quality (above average for rental bikes). Exceeded expectations!

Omar in the service department is awesome. Make sure you ask him about the places in Puerto Rico you should surf, climb and mt. bike.

Was in town for the US Pro cycling challenge, and wanted to ride myself. Reached out via phone and online, simple process to rent a bike.
When I arrived, I was informed that they had upgraded my bike ! Great Scott with Ultegra setup, top class, had been used maybe once.
Was provided with a proper fit that lasted 20 mins, to ensure I could enjoy the bike.
Overall very nice guys, very knowledgeable, and genuinely friendly.
3 days for $ 200 — no complaints.
Shop has a full scale of bike products, from, well, bikes to gear to nutrition to foam rollers — just great, but not over the top.

Nice store that does a good job supporting local clubs. I want to buy a bike there but so far I just haven’t found the right one other than kids bikes. The have a nice selection of accessories and some high end bikes, especially mt. bikes. If you’re interested in a road bike they have some selection but I’ve heard several times that «they have it at the north shop» Probably more road bike selection up north.
Service staff is helpful and knowledgeable but they always seem busy or need longer than other shops for service.

I recently was looking for a bike and wandered into their south store to see what they had to offer. They have an amazing selection of really sweet bikes. My previous visit was to purchase my little one a strider style push bike made by Specialized, and the service was top notch (not to mention that she loves it!) This visit however was for me and required moderate adjustment of multiple bikes to get a proper feel for a full suspension mountain bike. The staff were incredibly attentive and very knowledgable about the products they have, not to mention they went out of their way to help me test ride a couple of bikes on a busy day. I am very impressed with the design of the store as well as the large selection of bikes, supplies, and accessories. Going here is very much like going to the candy store!

The front desk service is friendly and is relatively helpful showing the limited selection of bikes that they carry. If you’re just shopping around and want to ride the higher trim version of the bike you like, then you should be ok visiting here. However…
I wouldn’t take my bike to the service department ever again.
I live up the street and decided (against my Better judgement) to have them take a look at some creaking I was experiencing in my rear wheel. 2 days and $ 60 later i was told it was good to go… It wasn’t.
My mechanic in Denver took apart the rear hub and discovered the problem in minutes. He didn’t even charge me for the work. Apparently the tech at bcs didn’t even touch the rear hub during his diagnosis of the creaking.
In conclusion, these guys are too busy, too pricy, and too inexperienced for me to recommend.

Never bought anything here but stop in occasionally to see what’s new and get some advice. These bikes are quite high end, beyond my needs. The clothing and accessories are always worth looking at when I need an update. The staff is very nice and always answers my questions.

Thought it is a small shop, have some nice traits to negotiate with this shop. These are cheaper rate, more reliable product and friendly manner at the time of servicing and overall good to call as a bike shop.

I see what others are saying about serving high end customers (some pretty spendy bikes in there), but I’m an average Joe and was treated very well this week. I wanted to demo a Turner Sultan and they had my size in stock but the demo model was up for sale and not in their demo fleet anymore. No problem though.
Jim let me pick it up mid-​day so I could get a ride in that day and the following before I had to return it. When I brought it back, we talked about what I liked and didn’t like about the ride and he suggested some geometry changes that might make it a little less twitchy in the front end for me. Also, he offered me the opportunity to take it back out again for another ride at no charge. That’s great customer service IMHO.

Customer service ok, but you can get a feel that they aren’t there to give fantastic customer service. i’ve been in there about 3 times, and once was good. this time was not good, and with bikes usually marked up 40% you would think they would be happy to deal with local customers. we almost bought 2 bikes from them, now we won’t ever buy one.

I had a «Level 2» bike fit recently with Sean at BCS. I have never had a bit fit that was as thorough, or had the person who did it be so helpful! I had been having issues with my saddle and he recommended that I try another. After riding the saddle for a couple of days, I realized that it didn’t work for me after all and I was allowed to return it, hassle-​free. What’s more, after I returned it, he re-​fit me with my original saddle again, without charging me extra. He spent so much time getting my fit right, I almost felt guilty that I didn’t have to pay extra! Sean is HIGHLY recommended by me for bike fits.
