Specialties

Whaddya Need? Specializes in helping out in a pinch. We primarily do peoples every day errands and chores. We clean houses and businesses, do laundry and pick up dry cleaning. We do post offices runs, deliver food, walk dogs, pick up kids and baby sit. We edit term papers, write press release. We offer computer tech support, set up electronics, hang flat screen TVs. Heavy lifting, moving assistance, we also put together ikea furniture. That along with our late night food deliveries and office lunch runs– we sort of specialize in everything!

We have full and part timer emploees that do all of the work, our employees are all qualified for their type of work, back ground checked and well referenced. If we cant do a job (rare) then we also have a few select companies that we reccomend.

History

Established in 2008.

Whaddya Need was founded in the Summer of 2008, by three friends.

The Owners all met at Boston Latin School and are all Boston Natives.

Whaddya Need has been featured in the local newspaper, the Regional Review as well as the Boston Globe.

Whaddya Need? Is owned by three Boston, natives– Omar Doherty, Jason Cahoon and Gia Veglia. Gia was born and raised in the North End, while the Gents are both from Dorcester.

We all went to Boston Latin High School together, and this past summer, after we found ourselves all living in the neighbor hood, we decided to open a business together– and Whaddya Need was born.

I checked Whaddya out on Unilocal before I called them and I noticed the reviews were very mixed; the general consensus seemed to be that if they showed up they did a fine job, but the chances they would actually call you back and/​or show up was roughly 50⁄50.
I therefore decided I would contact them once, and the minute they stopped answering my emails I’d simply move on (and try to locate the one handyman on CL who doesn’t appear on the sex offender registry).
Anyhoo, they got back to me immediately, showed up on time the next day and did a fine (if workman-​like) job of hanging my art and assembling my furniture. I contacted them a few weeks later to finish some additional tasks, however, and they jerked me all over the planet, literally for weeks. Because my first encounter with them had been so painless I completely disregarded my initial intention to move on at the first sign of fecklessness.
Lesson learned? If a business has 20 reviews stating that it’s run in an irresponsible manner chances are that said business is, in fact, run in an irresponsible manner. Just because my first encounter went well didn’t mean that I was special or that all the other reviews were written by haters — it simply meant I was lucky.
Since Whaddya obviously doesn’t want/​need more business I’d suggest you look elsewhere; I’ve been having great luck with BPA…

So helpful and nice! I got an air conditioner delivered but the UPS guy wouldn’t bring it up to my floor and just left it in the entrance way (which is very small). It was blocking someone’s door but I couldn’t carry it myself. I frantically called Whaddya Need and Gia couldn’t have been more helpful. She is a doll! Someone was over within a half hour to bring it up the stairs. A real savior… and not expensive at all!

These guys are awesome!!! I had to move the day before Christmas Eve and they were able to come out last minute and move everything into my U-​haul. They were very careful and got everything done so quickly! They could have milked the time since they are paid hourly but they didn’t! I even tipped them on top because I was so grateful! I would definitely use them again for moving or anything else I needed help with. Trustworthy and friendly with fair prices!

On paper, their services sound wonderful but that is it, on paper. I made an inquiry on a service and got a response almost immediately but, thereafter, it was me chasing them until I realised that I was wasting my time and that they clearly did not want my business.
It seems to me that this is a side business and the owners probably have full time jobs they are juggling with Whaddya Need and simply cannot put in the required time and effort to keep their business running.

Whaddya Need is exactly that — they really do anything you need. I couldn’t live without them in the North End. Their prices are reasonable for the work at hand and they are always very friendly.
I have used them twice, once to install my air conditioner and once to put together an Ikea couch. Both times they were late to my appointment (and I mean LATE, the first time they were supposed to come at 10AM and didn’t come until 2 and the second time, the same thing happened). I do have to give them the benefit of the doubt, they will get to you the same day you call, just not always at the time they promise. Not many places will do this, same day service.
I was a bit ticked off when I had to call the office to find out what was going on, but the staff called me back immediately both times and apologized for the delay. It was a bit unorganized and I wasted a few hours waiting around, but my air conditioner was installed beautifully and I will be calling them again this summer and for any other small projects I need done around the apartment. The benefits definitely outweigh the negatives.

This place is one of the businesses every neighborhood needs. I have been in the North End for 4 years, and finally something like this is here.
At the last minute, i needed help getting a couch that was getting delivered, into my apartment. I emailed Whaddya Need and Gia, the owner, emailed me right back saying she could have help on call with a 30 minute notice! Not many other places would do that.
The movers came within, literally, 2 minutes of my couch being delivered and moved it from street, to apartment, took it out the box, assembled it, all within 20 minutes. They also took all the packaging and the huge box with them.
There was an honest mistake about total charge, and once again Gia got back to me right and was super understanding and professional. She came to my apartment, re-​assessed the price for the job and gave me a refund. It ended up being a steal! And Gia really went out of her way for something that really wasn’t a big job (read: not expensive).
I don’t write reviews a lot, but the owner is extremely accommodating and sweet on top of it.
They do everything from dog walking to painting a room to a sink full of dishes. I will definitely be using them in the future, I’m sure I will find something in this apartment that needs fixin’.

Completely unorganized. I had set up an appointment with Whaddya Need?, and on the day of the appointment found out not only that the details of the job were recorded incorrectly but the appointment time as well! We rescheduled, only to have the carpenter not show up (he claimed he couldn’t find the apartment even though it’s directly across from a major location). He not only didn’t call to clarify directions but also didn’t call to tell me that he wasn’t going to show up for either appointment.
A total waste of a day.

Whaddya Need is one of those places that truly goes out of their way to make sure you are satisfied. Despite crazies like Tommye M. who think they rule the world and their word is law, they really are good people.
Example: I have a next door neighbor with serious health issues, one of which is a newly replaced hip. Sunday morning, we saw an ambulance in front of her home. Yes, it was for her, since she hurt herself some way or another. The owner, who already has a key to her home because she helps her for pay, went to her home the next morning to feed her cats, for free. It turns out she was home anyway, but where else will you get someone like that who truly cares about your well being?
Nowhere.

Whaddya Need is located in the North End and is just that… What do you need? They do just about anything you don’t have the time for including cleaning your house, grocery shopping, getting take out from that place that won’t deliver to your area, dog walking, laundry, emergency 2am convenience store items and more!
The three co-​owners are wonderful people, and as it says in their window, if no one is there they are open, just out and about doing work, so give them a call and get whatever you need even if it is 2am.
