U2 In Boston – Innocence & Experience – Night 4

I hate myself for missing the first 15 minutes of the show. U2 played Gloria. I know that I’ve already heard the song twice on this tour run, however, this is my favorite song that never gets old for me. I am blaming this one on Peter for making me miss the first 15 minutes of the show.
They changed the intermission song from The Wanderer to Gavin Friday’s remix of The Fly. His version of The Fly is on the Q Magazine U2 tribute compilation (the same album I’ve been trying to find on Ebay for a year now with no luck).
They went straight from The Fly to Invincible which was odd but strangely worked at the same time. It was a ballsy transition that the band seemed more into vs. the redundant opening of the second half of the set.
Of course just as I thought that it couldn’t get better… it did. The band mixed up the predictable set list and went from The Fly (remix intermission) Invincible Even Better Than The Real Thing. At this point in the show I wasn’t as bitter about missing Gloria.
The mood killer after playing 3 amazing songs in a row (curveball set) with some surprises was Stuck In A Moment. Just like during the 360 tour I hid in the bathroom during this song and ate a hot dog. I am just thankful they didn’t play Kite. Otherwise I would’ve had to take a 3 minute power nap.
Bono’s voice was actually in good shape. He paced himself well and hit 99% of the notes. He performed Every Breaking Wave flawlessly which was jaw dropping. One of the best versions of the song to date.
The band have been shaking it up a bit these past few days by messing with the set list. It was a weird transition from Every Breaking Wave to With Or Without You. They just need to go back to Bullet The Blue Sky as this worked flawlessly with the theme and mood. The Every Breaking Wave/​With Or Without you combo came across as a chore rather than genuine. The audience absorbed the song the same way. This song is more suited as a show closer than a number thrown in the middle.
When they finally did play Bullet The Blue Sky half the lyrics were sung through a megaphone which totally ruined the song. Somewhere in the middle Bono went into a 4 minute rant and I spaced out.
The show was unique on it’s own enough that I actually felt I had something exciting and different to write about this time around.
