The Esplanade Association is a non-​profit park friends group that is dedicated to making life better on the Charles River Esplanade. Our work includes projects to enhance the park, greening and maintenance, public programming, and advocacy efforts.

History

Established in 2001.

The Esplanade Association was founded in 2001. It was created because the Esplanade was falling into a state of disrepair and there was a public outcry for park improvements. The Esplanade Association is dedicated to restoring and enhancing the Charles River Esplanade as a vital urban park to be enjoyed by all. TEA works in partnership with the Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR), the state agency that manages the park.

So you’ve lived in Boston for six years, or six months. Of course you know about the Esplanade. Of course you’ve been there. Walking. Jogging. Biking. Watching Free Friday Flicks. On July fourth. On your way to Community Sailing.
Let me tell you what you don’t know.
There’s a whole gaggle of people working behind the scenes, not only to keep it beautiful and accessible, but also to bring events, amenities and activities to the Esplanade that make the absolute most of the space. Mostly volunteer people.
For example: In the month of August TEA has partnered with several local businesses and created a schedule of fitness classes from walking groups to tai chi to zumba to yoga. Offered daily. For FREE.
For example: The TEA is leading the way with over 10 current projects that target everything from keeping trees and geese safe and healthy to restoring wooden docks and granite landings.

One more thing you didn’t know. You can volunteer to help them out too. But you don’t have to in order to enjoy all that they have to offer.
