Excellent selection of beers from mainstays to craft brews, especially for a relatively small pub. Atmosphere is very relaxed. Most patrons seem to be hanging out before catching Amtrak or the commuter rail. The South Station staff is really excellent. They are very welcoming, attentive without being bothersome, efficient and knowledgeable. They also seem to work well as a team, each lending a hand to a fellow servers as needed. Good service is not easily had these days, the crew at at South Station is really a crack team.

Was in town a few weeks ago and got to South Station a bit early for my train so I pulled up a bar stool and ordered a drink. That’s right. It’s right inside South Station which means it’s not huge but sooo convenient. I was there on a Tuesday night so I didn’t have a problem getting a seat. There were 2 bartenders(not sure why, maybe one was the cook?) but Jeff came right over to me and took my drink order. They advertise a «beer of the week» but I ordered a Rum and Diet instead. He even asked me what Brand Rum I preferred which I thought was great. It was a great pour and I got to enjoy it while watching hockey on the NHLNETWORK! Yes! Yes! Yes!!! Also, I wasn’t worried about missing my train because they have the schedule right there on a tv at the bar. They had Led Zeppelin on the radio and a couple next to me ordered Guinness and it was a perfect pour. Mmmm! Next time!!! I didn’t order food but will when I return. Great little spot!

The crappiest quesadilla I have ever had. It was old pre-made microwaved. But you can’t go wrong with beers otherwise …

Pure desperation play. Incredibly limited menu.(How can they not have burgers?) I went with a cuban sandwich. Pork was grey, mushy and oatmeal like – in both flavor and consistency. A sad lonely piece of ham. Some indeterminate unmelted cheese food. No chipotle flavor – in fact, no flavor. And cold in the middle. Ugh. Puke-a-licious.

I have only been to «TITS» once and it was a Sunday about a half hour before the brunch was closing up. I was very impressed with the eggs, bacon, sausage and your other normal fixings. They also had fantastic pastries and a soft serve ice cream. The price for the full brunch was very reasonable. Try and get there with ample time because they start to stop replenishing with about 35 to 40 minutes left. The ownership has the following on their website: «We are proud to be a scratch kitchen, making all of our offerings in-house daily. Our menu consists of inspired comfort food created by passionate chefs. Our chefs use seasonal, regional ingredients and strive to prepare the food in innovative, yet approachable ways. We feature an extensive selection of up to 50 seasonal draught beers from all over the world. We have also made supporting small local breweries a priority and therefore, feature a large selection from New England.»

I arrived on the commuter rail and had 50 minutes before I had a meeting to attend. I asked the staff if they could get me in and out in 30 minutes. I ordered the crab Cristini salad and a Bloody Mary. I literally had it in front of me within ten minutes. I loved the presentation of the salad and it was very healthy. The bloody was strong and full of horseradish. If you can’t handle it don’t order it! I loved it all and made my meeting just in time. I will be back and I have already suggested the restaurant to others.

Thought it would be a great place to catch a drink before my bus, but it turned out otherwise. Staff is very selective on who they provide good service too and who they just help because it’s their job. Not sure if it’s the sex or physical appearance, but I noticed the difference.

Didn’t get food here, but a great place to grab some beers before catching the train. Jeff is great.

Stopped here for a quick drink before boarding our train back to DC from Boston. Great service from start to finish. With open seating, we grabbed a couple stools at the bar and Mary quickly helped us select some drinks. I was craving Clam Chowder, but the manager ran over to give me the heads up that it was made w/pork after hearing me say I don’t eat bacon– greatly appreciated! There was no problem when more people joined us — Mary was attentive and got their orders in right away, too. Mary got to know us and the Hawaiian Mai Thai added to a fun and memorable experience. We will totally be stopping by the next time we’re in town!

A nice little, beer filled oasis in South Station. I was here at about 11:30am on a Sunday, waiting for a bus to depart(just a short walk from the train terminal). I sat at the bar, which had a good number of seats and was surprised that a bar at a train station would have a decent and varied beer selection. I opted for a Sam Summer Ale, and the bartender asked if I wanted a large one. I obliged. For only $ 8.50, it was a steal. Other than that, I just passed the time watching ESPN on the screens above, and doing nothing else. Two others at the bar ordered some pretty big Bloody Marys, so if that’s your thing, they looked pretty darn decent. For a quick beer or drink before your train or bus, hit up this little gem.

Grabbed some chowder and a few pints prior to an Amtrak ride to NJ. The 6 oz chowder was good. I liked the crumbled bacon on top, but wasn’t offered any black pepper or hot sauce. I can overlook this because the chowder was that good. Three pints and 6oz of chowder was $ 30(included a 20% tip) which I feel was on the pricey side… but they are located on some pretty prime RE. Still a great place to end the day or begin a trip.

Obviously Tavern In The Square scores huge points for being steps away from the train platforms. Even during the weekday evening rush(the only times I’ve had a drink here) there is always a greeter to say hi to and bartenders are spot on with getting you in, getting you a drink(s) and getting you out. Seating is usually hard to come by so 9 times out of 10, you have to claim some space around the bar or by the high top tables and get your drank on before you jump on a train. Tavern definitely does it job. Nothing spectacular, but after a shitty day at work, they do the job before heading home.

The summer my friends and I lived in Allston we frequented that Tavern in the Square location almost too often. So, when I was visiting this weekend(they now live in the north end) and we were discussing brunch locations I mentioned that I wished we were still living near TITS she said that a new one had opened right near by. Unfortunately, because of the size they don’t have a brunch menu. But we decided we could forgo eggs and try this place out. We wandered in just after opening and the staff was all very friendly– our waitress was especially great– water refills were necessary for the hangovers. Even though the menu was limited everything looked good and I had a difficult time deciding what to order. Ended up with the quinoa bowl with roasted vegetables and grilled chicken– Delicious! My friend got fries and a pizza which were both great as well. It started filling up for the Pats game and we had other friends join us for bloody mary’s(great– but even the mild ones were spicy). Overall it won’t replace the giant Allston location in my heart but I would definitely return!

I had a few hours to kill while waiting for my bus back to NYC and was hungry after a full day of activity in Boston. So I checked out Tavern in the Square which has seats, drinks, TV and an interesting looking menu, right in the middle of South Station. The quesadilla, chips and guacamole description sounded kind of good(so did the maple turkey sandwich description); I ordered the chicken chipotle quesadilla with cheese, avocado, and marinated chicken with chipotle seasoning and spices. The product was sizeable enough. packed with chicken, avocado, and some cheese — fairly substantial in terms of quantity. It comes with cilantro infused sour cream and a tomato/onion vinaigrette-type mixture(like a basic salsa) on a bed of lettuce. The challenge is that the chicken was a bit on the dry side and not fully marinated in my opinion. That made bites not as flavorful as they could have been. Now the cilantro infused sour cream and the tomato/onion/lettuce mix help moisten bites and add some mild flavor, but it was clearly apparent the main draw, the chicken, was not. Oh, and while I don’t want my quesadilla overpowered with cheese, this one could have used a bit more, especially with the lack of flavor. The service was very quick — too quick at times. While I appreciated the speediness of being greeted, watered, and order taken, it would have been nice to have a little more time to enjoy the place before running up on me to give me the bill, then stalk me till I paid it. There’s always room for improvement in the food and service industry, even with five star service. Three stars for speedy and friendly service but somewhat flavor-bland(though generously sized) fare.

Mad Props to tonite’s bartender duo! They also doubled as security. Wow, I’ve seen some shady characters in here but this time… Most. Random. Creeps. Ever… However, the TITS crew made an immediate ocular assessment of the situation & verbally removed the offenders post haste. Well done, I say!!!

Waiting for a train and need a beer? Busy day and need a cocktail? Well this new spot in South Station has got you COVERED. I’ve come here quite a few times with the hubs and friends to grab a beer or some nachos. They have a full bar and quite the food menu for such a small establishment. This is why I find this bar impressive… handling crowds with a tiny kitchen. They make up for it with their extensive beer list. The service has never been lacking in my opinion. Waitresses are accommodating, and they take care of you, and quickly because of the extensive foot traffic, I’m sure. I love that South Station FINALLY has a bar… love it.

I love that this Tavern in the Square is right smack dab in the middle of South Station. If you’d like to temporarily escape the never-ending cacophony of babies crying, children whining, and meandering tourists asking for directions, then here’s your spot. And goodness knows that when one is about to embark on any kind of trip, it sure is helpful to have a drink. Or two. This T in the S is like any other, though. Just average. But they’ve got a decent beer selection and some alright appetizers for alright prices, and what more do you really need when you’re looking for something quick? They’ve got TVs, so you can watch your game of choice. And service is pretty fast. Done, done, and done. Anytime I’m at South Station waiting for the train, you’ll likely find me here.

I’d give it 2 ½ stars if I could, but 2 will have to do. Very good beer selection, and prices are not outrageous(this correlates to other reviewers saying cheap which is a ridiculous term for anything in the area). However, this place is so undersized for the location it’s shameful. One of the largest commuter and tourist hubs in the Northeast, and it’s served by a single kiosk offering beer? Awful. I liked Clarke’s just fine, but I wouldn’t care if that had been renovated into a Tavern. The size was much better than what we now have. Another easy fix would be to add a train schedule monitor within the space, as the big board out in the station is blocked by the rear of this place. Build two more bar kiosks in the station, and my complaints will go down, until then this place is a big disappointment.

Fast and good service. Clean! Prosecco. Drink before you get on the train. A +! I will go back as this is the only option for drink pre-train. Cheap too!(Prosecco was $ 9.50)!

Really nice layout in South Station, they have an impressive 32 beers on tap, and an attentive staff. Their menu is a limited version of their regular restaurant menus, which was perfect for lunch with sandwiches and salads. Ate lunch here so didn’t get to enjoy any of those beers beckoning me(office is very close, too risky) ;-) I had the Monterrey chicken sandwich, which was solid, but not very flavorful. I felt it could use some cheese. A little more expensive than what I remember at their other locations, but a good addition to South Station.
