History

Established in 1977.

A prime spotting place for local celebrities, political figures and even a few movie stars, Smith & Wollensky has long been considered a premier steakhouse destination. Offering simple elegant food in a refined setting, the experience is uniquely American – and says unequivocally «YOU’VE ARRIVED™.»

Our signature green and white building was established in 1977 in New York. Today, with nine iconic and distinctively different locations, it continues to symbolize the timeless luxury of Prime USDA steaks, fresh seafood and award-winning wines. We’re still the only national steakhouse to dry-age and butcher on site, fly in lobster daily and make our sides and pastries by hand. Our staff put your comfort and pleasure as their absolute priority. So whether you visit for an intimate gathering or large celebration, you’ll be glad when you’ve arrived.

Meet the Manager

Richard C.

Manager

Richard Cheshul began his hospitality career in a small New Brunswick, New Jersey, restaurant, the Round Grill, while he studied at Rutgers University. He began as a server and was promoted to management within the first year because of his customer-focused attitude and attention to detail. After five years, Richard enjoyed the fast-paced environment so much that he decided to pursue experience in larger restaurant venues and joined McCormick & Schmick’s management team. Within only a few months, Richard was invited to relocate to the restaurant’s Park Square location in Boston where he managed everything from the service staff to the beverage program.

Smith & Wollensky recognized the opportunity to combine Richard’s passion for hospitality perfection with a world-class brand and invited Richard to join the Boston Back Bay team in 2008. Richard quickly moved up the management ladder and was soon asked to take charge of the steakhouse in 2011.
