Sadly it looks like Ray’s Sub Shop has closed shop. Hopefully this is a temporary closure, and Ray will be back! Anyone have any news???

When you see the sign for the business, and if you walk by on the weekend, you’d think that this place was vacant because the sign is kind of faded… but it’s definitely there and thriving! I think the fact that the sign is faded means that it’s been around for a while and is here to stay! This is a sub shop open for the weekday work crowd. Like my friend Temurkin said in his review below, everything’s around $ 5, which is super reasonable. I like the bread that they use in their subs more than the bread that they use in Boar’s Nest Deli, and it’s cheaper. Ray is a fast sandwich maker, and he’s a nice guy too! The egg salad sub($ 5) was delicious, had plenty of egg salad in it(which is what you would want in an egg salad sub right?), came with lettuce and tomatoes, and like I said before, the bread is good… My friend had the ham sub, and she said it was delicious, and it was only $ 5.50! I’ll be back for more!

So, it might look like a place you would typically find a really small town, but I really like this place. They make your subs super fast and they have a good chips and drinks selection. I always get the ham and egg salad with every topping on it and its always amazing. And if you can’t eat it all in one sitting, save it for later! Not expensive either!

As you approach Ray’s Subs from the outside you might think you’re about to open the door to find a Hefty Englishman with a large metal pole about to shank you… fortunately all you are about to be shanked with is the glorious taste of simple yet overwhelmingly tasty subs. The chicken parm is solid, the tuna a bit mayoey, but all else bows down to the Meatball. 12 inches of bread, 4 pieces of provolone, and any number of outlandishly epic meaty balls all elegantly thrown together with more swagger than most of the patients walking around the hospital. It never fails to put a smile on my face, and leaves a satisfying sigh of relief after you flush. Why not 5 stars? It’s $ 7.50 for a good sub, but realistically… where are you going to find better in Chinatown? Truth.

Great to-go sandwich shop for weekday lunches. I’ve had their turkey sandwich a couple times so far and it’s consistently fresh and made unbelievably quickly. The price is fair at $ 4(no tax) and definitely a cheaper and/or healthier option compared to Vietnamese sandwiches and the 6″ subs at Subway.

Just ate there after having passed by many times. The exterior can be intimidating as it looks like you might open the door to find a dark, nasty bar full of scary-looking characters. Happily, that is not the case. It’s a simple sub shop inside with the quickest sub-makers I have ever seen. Seriously, from start to finish I was in there MAYBE two minutes. I got the turkey with provolone. It was good, obviously fresh, but nothing spectacular. Next time I’ll try the tuna salad — a good tuna salad sub is hard to find. Also, prices have risen since the last reviews — sandwiches are $ 4.00 and subs are all at least $ 5.50. I think the hot subs are more but I didn’t look at those prices.

I’ve been going to Ray’s for years and love it. There’s definitely no frills about this place but you can get a great sub cheap and fast!

Fall back in Chinatown for something not Asian, so it really does have potential to suck, since it is the default subshop… But it doesn’t suck! Can’t beat the price,(3 – 4 bucks per sandwich), and everything is very fresh. My way to test a deli is with their tuna salad: and theirs is perfect! All white albacore, not too dry, not too mayonnaisy, no creative mumbo jumbo, just good. At lunch, there is always a huge line(a good sign in my book, as far as delis go), but the guys at the counter work like a conveyor line and really move things along. My one piece of advice is if you’re gonna get a sub or sandwich there, get a sub or sandwich, don’t go for the wraps. They are always soggy and subpar. I guess, this place is just not meant to be healthy.
