This might be one of the last Titans of honest auto repair shops. Seriously.
They gave me a fair price on a new bumper (yup, they try to steal those too these days!) and other repairs. Although they forgot to ask me for my car keys (I had to take the bus back there the next day), one of the repairmen gave me a ride back to work. They even offered to pick me up, once the car was ready. My car looks great, AND they even cleaned it inside and out!
Plus, I got some good advice on the best European cars.
They are now officially our family shop, as my mom-​in-​law also uses them.

I brought my car here after a break-​in where they stole my radio and did quite the number on my dash. The owner of this place was super nice and professional. He worked with my insurance and kept me apprised of where they were in the process. When I got the car back it exceeded expectations. Definitely recommend them. The few people I worked with there are all very personable. If I could give more than 5 stars I would… really.

I was fortunate to bring my car to Hynes auto. I was hit on my front due some woman changing lanes without looking. Hynes auto is one of the few shops and does both body and mechanic. I was mostly concerned with the mechanic work. Once i received my car, it looked brand new. They cleaned the inside and looks like they also washed my car. You couldn’t notice if my car has been through an accident. Great job! On the mechanic side, they were able to fix the nagging noise my car made from the accident. They are honest people and i would highly recommend them to anyone who needs body or mechanic work. To top it off, Micheal was very friendly and helpful.

Our CR-​V started handling poorly right around thanksgiving, with the check engine light turning on, the drive light on the transmission flashing, and a grinding noise happening at low speeds.
We called Honda to see what was happening. They suspected that it was nothing, or maybe an electronics issue for the check engine/​drive light. They wanted to charge us $ 100 to reset the electronics.
Now, flash forward to January 1^st. Our car has gotten worse, we need to get it fixed, and we don’t know who will take us over the holidays. We pull up to Hynes without an appointment and half an hour before closing, and they immediately jump to the rescue. They tell us that it’s definitely a transmission issue, with the flashing D signaling overdrive. They tell us that they will start by checking the fluid, then look at the solenoids, then look at the whole truck. At most, it would have cost $ 3500 for a new transmission (still cheap as far as those go).
Thankfully, it was just solenoids, and cost us a total of $ 355 for parts AND labor. Plus, they had it fixed in a matter of 3 days (we brought it on a Saturday, it was fixed by Wednesday). I would have happily paid more for the help these guys gave us. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

I can’t say enough positive things about Hynes. After years and years of being completed ripped off (most likely due to my gender), I finally found an honest mechanic shop. Brian and the guys are great. I will never take my car anywhere else.

These guys are awesome, very friendly and up front with everything. I have these guys maintenence all 3 of my cars from brakes, oil changes and check engine lights when it comes on. fast service and honest work! Brians is the guy I deal with and he’s be so helpful

Let’s face it, getting your car fixed sucks.
At Hynes, at least you don’t get robbed or fixed w low quality parts.
Maury took great care of me, worked w the insurance companies, returned my car good as new and had it detailed to boot. 100% the spot to go.

Sorry Hynes, I gave you a shot. I gave you a second shot, I gave you the benefit of the doubt. And now I’m done. This is a long read, but worth it.
I dropped my car off at Hynes Auto after my wipers had stopped working on a rainy day. The wipers slowly dragged along the windshield and never returned to their starting position without getting out of the car and pushing them down. Hynes is a block or two away from me, so its an easy drive in a light rain despite no working wipers. They called me later in the day, saying I need a new Wiper-​transmission, and the parts and labor would amount to around $ 300. I said sure, and had the parts ordered. I dropped my car off the next morning.
I came by a couple days later to check on my car, and they told me they had installed the wiper-​transmission, but accidentally broke the driver’s side wiper arm in the process. (It’s an old car with old parts, I gave them the benefit of the doubt). They said they would not charge me for the arm but would have to charge me for the labor when the arm got in. I paid the $ 300 for the transmission and labor, we ordered the wiper arm, and I drove away with only the passenger wiper installed and working.
5 days go by. I get no call from Hynes. I stop by and ask about the wiper arm. They said it had not arrived yet, but assured me that as soon as it got in they would call me, and it would take 5 – 10 minutes to install. Another few days ago by and I got a call saying the arm came in, and that I can stop by anytime to have it installed in a few minutes. I mentioned I would be in the next morning to have it put on.
I arrive at Hynes the next morning, and they seemed busy — I had to wait around 10 minutes for someone to come ask what I needed help with. The guy who was helping me ran back to grab the wiper arm, and disappears for another few minutes. When he comes back, he says he has bad news. The installed the wiper arm on the wrong car. Apparently they had installed it in a similar model car to mine by mistake. How could the part I had been waiting for for about 2 weeks now be accidentally installed on someone else’s car, perhaps even without their knowledge? They apologize, and order another part. Same story, «we’ll give you a call as soon as it arrives and it will only take 5 – 10 minutes.»
Another week goes by. No phone call. I call them in the morning for an ETA, and they say the part will arrive later that day. It was also about time for an oil change and renewed inspection sticker, which I asked about, and they said they could do it in the same day. I dropped it off and had them call me when the part was in and everything was done. I come by later that day (since I still hadn’t gotten a call) when I know they’re about to close to see what progress had been made. My car was still right where I dropped it off, and hadn’t been touched.
When the (2^nd) wiper arm finally arrives, they tell me they have more bad news: they accidentally ordered the WRONG WIPER ARM. They ordered the passenger-​side by mistake. This is already too many strikes for them in my book, but at this point, they owe me a wiper arm and installation.
Another (3^rd) wiper arm was ordered. More waiting, and a continued lack of response from them until I reach out first. At this point, it has been over a MONTH since my wipers initially stopped working, and over a MONTH since I had already paid $ 300 to fix this issue. But there seemed to be a light at the end of the tunnel. I call them for what seemed like the 15^th time buy now and remind them I’m still waiting for a call about my wipers. The arm finally comes, its the correct part, it hasn’t been installed on the wrong car, and it’s waiting to be installed.
I have the arm finally installed, but now they try to charge me another $ 300 for the initial wiper-​transmission work they did over a month ago. I showed them the receipt for the work they had already charged me for, and walked out. The wipers worked now, but seemed a bit off when i tested them. almost like they moved with too much force. Didn’t think too much of it, I was just happy to finally have wipers that worked at all.
Fast forward a week — It starts to rain. I’m excited to finally use my working wipers for the first time. Halfway on my way to work in the morning, the passenger side wiper-​blade flies off my car and lands on the side of the road. I had to stand outside in the rain and re-​secure the blade to the arm. It’s been a few days and the driver’s side arm now feels completely loose and about to fly off. I’ll have to find a competent mechanic to take a look at it.
Sorry Hynes. I’ve had one of the worst customer experiences in my life at this shop, with what would seem to be one of the simplest car issues to fix. I’m still baffled at how your staff could screw something like this up so horribly, and cannot trust anyone at this facility for anything in the future. I would not recommend this shop to anybody.

They make small repairs for free while inspecting your car. Honest and easy to talk to. They are really busy so if you need your car done fast let them know. You can actually trust their assessment of your car!

I got a wheel bearing replaced here after Glenview Terrace recommended Hynes. I got it looked and was quoted less than I expected. When I got the work done a week later, it was done at the quoted price and in one day. The next time I need some work done, I’ll go back here.

The people working here don’t communicate with each other and clueless overall. I dropped my car off for an oil change and inspection and when I came back, neither were done. I had a rejection sticker on my car and they didn’t have an explanation for it. I told them to call me if there was any problems but nothing. Don’t go here, they obviously don’t care for your business.

Just had some bodywork performed at Michael J. Hynes as they’re one of the few bodyshops that works directly with Liberty Mutual. This made my experience totally seamless. When I dropped my car off before heading to Jamaica for a few days, I left them w/​my appraisal. Turns out, the appraisal was insufficient to cover the costs of the actual damage, so they handled everything directly w/​Liberty Mutual for the additional funds. Had I gone anywhere else, they would have just relayed this message requiring me to contact Liberty Mutual myself and play liaison between insurance and bodyshop. Instead, I just picked up my car a few days after I returned and that was that! Easy.
Not to mention, the bump in my rear passenger side was totally vanished and I swear my car looks like it came right back from the factory! I’m not sure if they washed the exterior fully, but I think they did b/​c it’s clean as a whistle including the rims (mind you, after the snowy/​salty winter we’ve had). The inside was also cleaned SO well (not just vacuumed, but clearly wiped down), that I no longer need to get it detailed for the spring as I’d planned to do.
Great work and no complaints here! I’ll definitely return again (but hope I don’t have to!) ;)

When I first moved away from my home town & into the city one of my worries was finding a mechanic I can trust. I hate walking into a place and getting the «oh a girl who must not know anything let’s try and rip her off» look.
This place however is wonderful. The staff is extremely knowledgeable, courteous & friendly. These guys know what they’re doing.
Oh & bonus one of the guys had an adorable irish accent!

Great service, very reasonable and fast. My car broke down, they were able to take it in right away and fixed it! Would definitely recommend for any auto repair!

I have been here twice now to get my inspection sticker renewed. They provide no nonsense service, unlike all the other places I have been to where they’ve asked me to unnecessarily replace parts in my old car.

Quick & great service. Have dealt with Brian here a few times, he knows what he’s doing & is very helpful. Recently I had my car towed here because my clutch went on me while driving to work. They repaired it with no issues. They also do inspection stickers, tire services & auto body. & I have to mention they have unbeatable prices!

Mechanics and body shops generally have a bad name but I’ve dealt with their shop twice in the past 6 weeks and found the employees to be courteous and professional. My first dealing was with some body work after an accident. I also thought that I needed new brakes, they kept the car an extra day and said the brakes were fine. Second time I dealt with them, my steering was vibrating at higher speeds. Thought it could be alignment or bent rim (which had happened to me in the past). $ 20 later, all it was was a balancing issue. I’ll continue to use them as long as I live in the area. I highly recommend their services.

I seriously can’t say enough about these guys! Most recently, I had an issue where my car would not start, but only intermittently (definitely not an ideal situation). I took it to Hynes Auto and instead of recommending every part/​repair under the sun, they took the time and effort to recreate the problem and properly diagnose it. Turns out it was a bad fuel pump and 6 months after the repair, I can gladly report that I haven’t had the same problem recur.

I moved from Washington, DC to Boston and Hynes Auto Repair is the only mechanic and auto repair place I have used in the past three years. I have been using their services since they were located on Redford Street.
These guys know their stuff. Brian is always smiling and the customer service is impeccable. If you love my car as much as me and it needs a check-​up or a warning light comes on, Hynes Auto will look at it and run a brief diagnostic for free.
I have never been charged a lot as mechanics try to get over most of the time, but I feel like I am a part of a family whenever I visit to have my car worked on. I definitely suggest and recommend using their services.
I honestly believe that the reason my car has lasted this long with its good health is because of the attention and care that Hynes Auto gives my vehicle.
