Cortney is AMAZING! She has an incredible passion for color and blow outs — both last longer than any other place I have ever gone to. I had a history of stylists pulling red instead of light brown, and Cortney was able to immediately solve this issue! I would highly recommend Cortney!

Greg is so amazing. I see him every couple of months for a cut, balayage/​ombré, and a blow out (I followed him from the previous salon he was at).
He truly listens to what you want when it comes to cut and color and is very realistic about expectations when it comes to achieving a desired color. I had really dark brown hair with some box dye throughout and he worked with me to give me beautiful balayage the first time, and it’s just gotten better and better every time I see him. He is a perfectionist that truly wants to create beautiful hair. He really takes his time
(I have super long, THICK hair) and puts so much effort into making your hair look perfect and beautiful when you leave the salon. The cut is beautiful, the color is on point, and he’s amazing at giving the perfect blowout (with just a blow dryer and no extra styling tools required). Aside from his skills he has a great personality and I always look forward to going in and seeing him. Greg Chase is a dream. Go see him!

Jeffrey Lyle Salon just acquired an amazing stylist and colorist! Schedule your next appointment with Gregory Chase! I’m very particular about my color and cut and Greg exceeded my expectations and then some! I first met Greg at a previous salon and decided to follow him to JLS. I was a little apprehensive about having to deal with Newbury St. but I’m so glad I decided to venture in this past Saturday morning… It turned out to be a pleasant experience and who doesn’t like a quiet Saturday morning on Newbury St. with plenty of street parking available! So far, I’ve only had three appointments with Greg but I’ve gotten more compliments on the color and cut, that I see a long and lasting relationship on the horizon!

I can’t sing Cortney’s praises loud enough! Cortney is a lovely human being who also happens to be a hair color genius. My hair looks like my five year-​old head went to the beach, got a little sun-​kissed, and stayed there all year. Perfect! Cortney has a natural eye for what’s flattering in terms of both color and cut. I trust her implicitly!

Let me start off by saying that I am super picky about my hair color. I had a partial foil done recently at another salon that I was unhappy with. So, after doing some research I decided to book at the Jeffrey Lyle Salon for a full balayage.
I made the decision based on Jeffrey’s multiple year «Best Blonde» awards from Boston Magazine. Because Jeffrey was, understandably, booked two weeks out, I decided to see Cortney, who according to their site, trained beside him to master his technique.
People, I am seriously blown away by her work. She took my hair from a brassy, dull, dark blonde with bad stripey bits from the previous foil work, to a beautiful, beige, graduated, beachy blonde. Exactly what I was looking for! Haven’t seen my friends yet, but sent them a couple pics– one said she’s never seen my hair color look this good! She also remarked that the blowout looked awesome, which it does:)
Cortney also did a real consultation beforehand. Not a rushed «so, whaddaya want??» She wanted to know about the history of my hair color and interestingly, what direction did I want to go with the color in the future? I thought this was a brilliant question to ask (and have never been asked that by a colorist before) because the service you do today will be an important foundation for what you come back for in a few months.
The salon is bright and clean. 3^rd floor walk-​up (no scary Back Bay death trap elevator-​yippee!) and the staff was very friendly; not at all a stuck up Newbury salon. Got to chat with the owner, Jeffrey, a bit while my color was developing. Really nice guy.
All in all an awesome experience– can’t wait to go back!

I’ve been going to Cortney at Jeffrey Lyle for about 18 months… I LOVE her, the salon, the whole experience. They use amazing products (the kind I feel too guilty about splurging on myself, like Kerastase). The service has been nothing short of excellent every time I’ve visited– plus they always have the current issues of all my favorite magazines! :)
Cortney is fantastic– I love getting haircuts but hate thinking about what might look good, so she always gives me her professional opinion and it always turns out lovely! She finishes her cuts with a fantastic blowout that lasts for several days.
I’ve also had balayage at the salon twice, and have gotten TONS of compliments after. Cortney knows I can’t spend a ton of money getting highlights touched up every month, so she does it so it can grow out and look nice over the course of a few months. Amazing!

I feel the need to review this salon. The good thing is they carry Kerastase products. I did some research as I was looking for a colorist who was good with blondes. I went to Jeffrey several times. He did a good job first few times however on my last visit my color was off and he left a dark orangish band in my hair. I had to go to another salon and they couldn’t believe it! When I called to complain they could care less.

I’ve been going to see Jeff and his crew for about three years and I’m always happy with the results! I don’t always have a ton of time to devote to upkeep, so Jeff works with me to find the right process that can accommodate some amount of grow-​out without looking sloppy. Right now the answer is balayage — which I love! The team is always knowledgeable, professional, and fun to be around!

I’ve trusted Jeff with my blonde for 5 years and would be lost without his golden touch. We’ve lightened, darkened, and then über-​lightened time and time again, always with impeccable results. Visiting his salon is like my own personal mini-​vacation with its clean + minimal vibe, good music, and massive selection of magazines from all over. He + his team always make me feel welcome and pampered — such a great group :)

As always, I am dazzled with how Jeffrey colored my blonde mane & Jordan is a great addition to the salon– my hair looks and feels fabulous! Beautiful blow-​out too. Thank you again, J & J!

Not much of a critic when it comes to salons but here it goes:
When I go in my hair is long and grown out and when I leave it looks nice and I get compliments for weeks afterwards.
They have a large selection of hair care products they all are french and appear very fancy.
They offer beverages water, coffee, espresso, etc.
When they’re washing my hair it feels like they’re giving me a head massage.
I go ONLY for Shannon. Not only does she always make my hair look awesome, we also have hilarious conversations.
…I always leave smiling.
All the hate on this salon is misplaced.

Today I had highlights put in my hair by Heather. Over the years I have had a number of stylists put dye in my hair, but I have to say this is the best experience I’ve yet to have.
When I first arrived, Heather sat me down and we talked through my hair and what I had in mind. I told her how I like natural looking highlights and would like to lighten the shade of my hair. I told her that since I am in the midst of growing my hair out that I would like to have coloring that will make it look dynamic while it is in the awkward grow out stage. And after all of that she went to work.
She quickly and efficiently yet meticulously added highlights by selecting small portions of my hair. She even pulled the dye out in stages instead of all at once — which gave the color a much more natural look.
Wash, blow dry and a little straightener — and I loved the completed product. We even talked about maintenance techniques.
I could go on — but the whole thing was great!

Go to Heather for Balayage Now! I love love my hair. Heather did an amazing job, she was so attentive and professional. She really listened to what I wanted. I brought in pictures and was pleasantly surprised to see her look at them attentively and bring them out again when we were done! She really caters to the client which I love:) Balayage is a special technique of hair painting and it gives your hair a great natural sunkissed look. Perfect for blondes looking to go a bit lighter or brunettes looking for some dimension without going extreme. I can’t wait to see how it grows out.
Heather made it the most enjoyable experience. I had a great time chatting with her. She offered some great hair advice and never left me for too long. The salon is ideally located on Newbury Street. Its clean and modern looking — nice without being pretentious.
If you are thinking balayage in Boston, go to Heather!

FYI: The girl who washed me out is Heather. She was Jeffrey’s assistant but now she takes her own customers. She’s super nice and I bet she does a good job. I just moved to Cali so I’m bummed I won’t be going to this salon anymore :-(

I’m not sure why there aren’t better reviews for Jeffrey Lyle. The people that work here are always super nice and welcoming and Justine is amazingly talented. My hair was mostly one length and boring, and she suddenly made it look shiny, perfectly layered and angled, and I get compliments all the time. I have referred a couple of friends to her as well, and they all look great and swear by her. To be honest, a haircut and styling from Justine is an absolute steal.

I signed up for a membership at The Bar Method and got a waver for a complimentary haircut with Shannon. It had been… well, let’s just say a long while since I’d had my hair cut – I’m busy and VERY picky about my hair, so I’d let it grow out rather than shop around for a new stylist.
I’m so glad I went in! Shannon was absolutely lovely, knowledgeable and friendly. She gave me exactly what I asked for (a trim that got rid of the damaged ends while keeping as much length as possible) and more – beautiful long layers that are a snap to style. Keep in mind, this was all for free, yet I never felt rushed or pressured to buy extra products or services. I can’t speak to her skill with avant-​garde styles, but I can say Shannon really understands how to create easy, polished, sophisticated hair and I’m 100% going back to her for my next haircut (& even plan to pay this time!).

If you are a blonde in need of great color, this is your place. Jeffrey does my color, and has always been nothing but wonderful. I am admittedly Extremely picky about my hair. I ended up using Jeffrey because I had been having my hair colored at another very expensive hair salon in Boston, and the way it was being colored just wasn’t working out… it required way too much upkeep and seemed to lose its original sheen all too quickly after my appointments. Frustrated, i decided to try a new stylist. After some intensive internet digging, I found Jeffrey and decided to give him a try. Jeffrey is expensive, but well worth it. I asked for color that would help bring me back to my natural tone (dirty blonde). He listened and delivered. I love my hair now… Instead of appointments every 2 months to touch up ugly roots, he has blended it beautifully, so I have am able to go 6 months without highlights.
Tim also has been cutting my hair (I have long hair), and I am always happy with his work. Another Unilocaler mentioned that he was rude, which does not sound like Tim at all! He is always kind and fun to talk to…

The Jeffrey Lyle Salon is lucky to have her. I have been a customer of hers for about 5 years. When I first came to her my hair was completely fried from years of sun and salt water from years of living in Hawaii… fried to the point where my bangs were sticking straight up. I know, hot. I have had many different styles with her from black bob to long brown, to reddish curly… haven’t done blonde, as the salon is known for, but only because I know I’d be too lazy to come in and get my roots done in time, and look like trailer trash shortly after.
She is awesome at cut, color, correcting disasters, blowouts… even hair wahes… I told her I need her to live with me so she can do my scalp massages and wash my hair every morning. So far, she has not taken me up on my offer. Hmph. I guess I’ll just have to go to the salon.
There has been multiple times I have had random girls ask me where I’ve gotten my hair done. Definitely go to Jeffrey Lyle Salon and request her.
Oh, and she was also awarded Best of Boston for women’s high end stylist.
So…the salon itself…3^rd floor walkup on Newbury St. Very plain, clean inside. All white. Multiple awards on the walls. All Kerastase products.

I came to Jeffery Salon on a recommendation of a girl with amazing hair I saw on the street.
I then read all the reviews and decided to give Jeff a chance.
My hair was very brassy and gold. I had a rushed and bad color from Amaci Salon. I was hopping for the awful gold to be gone or somewhat better after I left. But my hair was left gold and not much of a difference.
After my hair was done he could tell I was not that thrilled with the color and so he said it would take a few times to get the gold out… but the funny part was… that at my roots were gold too. Bc he added a gold toner to my hair! .
A few days later his secretary called to ask how i liked the salon/​color etc. I called back and said that I felt my hair was gold and brassy and I was not happy. SHe said she will call me back and she would speak to Jeffery about the issue.
I never recieved a call and So, I was pissed and dissapointed. Spending almost 400.00. really??? I will not be going back and nor will I make another apt with this Salon.
Funny now that I recall, when I was there a woman had called Jefferey b/​c she needed him to correct his color he did on her. When She came in and she got a toner and as she walked out the door… he mumbled sorry about that.
Quite sad as this is his Salon w/​his name on the door.
THe only upside was his staff seemed very polite and nice and the woman that washed my hair was sweet and gave a great head maasage.

While Jeffrey, himself is warm and inviting-​Tim (other colorist) made my experience so bad that after a good coloring job, I can’t bare to go back to the salon.
Not only did Tim make it seem as though he was doing me a favor throughout my experiences there, by being in his presence, but he surreptitiously went behind my back and charged be for add-​on procedures after we agreed not to do the add-​ons.
The culminating point of my disgust-​is when:
(1) Tim told me he would do a baby trim for a special price, of $ 20 to correct a bad haircut, and made it a full on haircut-​charging me full price AND
(2) after we discussed that he wouldn’t blow it out and a shampoo girl graciously offered to blow my hair out for free, for practice… Tim RAN in front of me (as I was walking to the counter to pay) and whispered to the front desk. I ended up with a bill for about $ 300 (all of the deals and freebies went out of the window in favor of Tim giving himself a better day’s pay). Not only can I not trust him now, I plainly do not want to be around him.
